She’s rescued her best friend from being transformed into a cat and stopped a war in the Poisoned Apple, New York City’s hidden neighborhood of counterfeit curses and fairy tale trickery. All Briar wants is to have a carb-filled brunch, gossip over a couple of mead-mosas, and maybe figure out if she’s actually in a love triangle with her high-school crush and her strait-laced business partner. But relaxing is hard when the city starts screaming. Some malevolent curse has invaded the dreams of the sleeping princesses across the Apple, spreading nightmares and violence throughout the city. What’s worse, a militant new faction of knights has used the chaos to grab power and trap Briar’s community in its authoritarian grip. If Briar’s going to be able to free the princesses and stop these fairy tale fascists, she’s going to have to solve a deeper mystery: the origins of her own uncontrollable, emotion-altering powers. Briar and her friends will journey from the depths of the enchanted Afterwoods to the penthouses of the Upper East Side to stop the knights, wake the princesses, and save the Poisoned Apple. And hopefully still fit in that brunch.

This is book two in the series, but you could technically start here and be ok, but you should just read book one because it is AMAZING!! This story takes us through all of the boroughs of the Poisoned Apple including a few that we didn't actually think were real. Briar and her friends embark on a new journey to help stop the princesses from screaming and to save the city from the White Knights...it is a hard journey with lots of surprises and lots of adventure! Will they be successful? Will they stop the white knights in time? Will Briar solve her love triangle? This is another can't miss, must read by author Scott Mooney! Add this one to your TBR list and move it to the top!

Briar is back, back again! And this time, there's more... more mystery, more twists, more darkness. It's the perfect sequel, even if you haven't read book 1, but I'm totally in for this. First off, love this cover. It's gorgeous and perfect for the book. Second, Scott's writing continues to be fantastic, good pacing, descriptive enough, and engaging. Easy to read and enjoy. As for the story, we come back for more with Briar. A girl after my heart who just wants brunch with a side of extra brunch, Briar is back, back again! As for the story, we come back for more with Briar. A girl after my heart who just wants brunch with a side of extra brunch, but that's not gonna be the case. We are faced with sleeping sickness, a power grab from the military, and a definite hindrance for brunch. It's such a great story. It continues the smart, witty writing, and takes us deeper into Briar and her powers then we've gone before. I really was laughing one minute, while holding on to the edge of my seat. And, if that's not enough, we've got two love interests that Briar needs to figure out when she's not saving lives and being badass. Another fantastic book in this series and I am so down for more! Also, I'd really like to have brunch with Briar....

Loved Pricked, the first book in the Tales from the Poisoned Apple series, so I was fearful that Screaming Beauty wouldn’t be as good, but I soooo wrong. Dare I say it’s even better… This YA series reminds me of The October Daye series by Seanan McGuire and The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher… two of my favorite fantasy series, so it’s a no brainer that I would enjoy Tales from the Poisoned Apple. The characters are getting more complex and the world that Scott Mooney has built is magnificent. The characters are getting more complex and the world that Scott Mooney has built is magnificent. So many details and wondrous descriptions which is essential in any fantasy series. And I am so happy the love triangle between Briar and two very different, but equally attractive young men won’t be continuing. There is nothing that turns me off a series faster than when the character won’t pick one or the other. And the way that it’s handled is very mature, but Mooney is still able to give the reader all the feelings that come with a first love. The new characters that were introduced in Screaming Beauty add even more depth to the series, and we were able to visit again with some favorites from the previous book, which is always fun. It’ll be interesting to see how Briar deals with her new knowledge and powers going forward. And besides all the great characters and the wonderful world building, the message that comes from the main storyline is very powerful and also on point with what is going on in the world today. You can either read the story and enjoy it, or dig deeper into the meaning behind the screaming princesses and the people who are trying to “help” them. I highly recommend Screaming Beauty and am excitedly waiting for book three in The Tales from the Poisoned Apple.

I have been anticipating this book for awhile and was excited to finally grab my hands on it! Briar and the gang are back and this time, there’s more danger and a few surprises. The second installment of the Poisoned Apple series did not disappoint. Screaming Beauty left me wanting more with a cliff hanger ending (once again). I loved how in this book, we get a more in depth look at Briar's city, The Apple, and a glimpse of her hometown and dear old dad. I also got a sense of a family of choice trope, as Briar and her friends truly care for one another and have each other's backs as they plot together to once again, save their city. *I received this book as an ARC in exchange for a honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.* As quickly as I devoured Pricked (book 1 in the Tales from the Poisoned Apple series), it comes as no surprise that this sequel was just as captivating and breathtaking. With its fast-paced adventure quests and plot twists that knock the wind out of you, it’s safe to say this book has been added to the top of my list of recommendations. Absolutely Fantastic! Page Turning at the edge of your seat! Good doesn’t even begin to cover how good this was. I thought Pricked was good, but this blew Pricked out of the water. I feel that the characters came more to life, more alive then before. The adventure was full of surprises, twists and turns and mystery. The characters melded together perfectly and gave a realistic picture in our mind. The storyline was brilliant! Screams, dreams, and taking risks This was a great follow up to Pricked. There are some new characters introduced, some of which you root for and others that you can't wait to see get knocked down. Briar's latest quest leads to many unexpected discoveries, family advice, adult talks, searches, and rescues.I love the world that Mooney has created.I can't wait to see what comes next. Mooney’s Pricked (the first novel in the Tales from the Poisoned Apple series) was, without a doubt, one of my top reads of 2019 and one of the strongest debut novels I’ve ever read. This series has incredible potential and, quite frankly, has a lot to live up to. Mooney put a very strong first foot forward with Pricked. Could Screaming Beauty match its’ predecessor? Spot-on. Mooney’s second adventure into New York City’s secret borough, the Poisoned Apple, is just as spellbinding as the first. Mooney’s second adventure into New York City’s secret borough, the Poisoned Apple, is just as spellbinding as the first. With more laugh-out-loud dialogue and a plot that keeps you guessing until the very end. Briar and her gang of rogues are in more trouble than ever when the Sleeping Princesses of the Poisoned Apple begin screaming from a Night Terror of EPIC proportions. It’s up to Briar and her special powers to dive deep into the secrets of the Poison Apple and find a way to save the city. Again. Mooney’s incredible prose digs deep into the fairy tale lore we know and love and breaths fresh life into the genre. Screaming Beauty ups the ante with all new characters, a compelling new setting within the Poisoned Apple, and a plot that will keeps readers glued to the page. Wrap that together with the quirky magical underbelly of New York City that we’ve come to know and love, and you’ve got another hit for Mooney. Mooney embraces the strange, while honoring the time-honored classics and lore of days passed while offering readers a hilarious trip through a magical, secret world only he could craft. A laugh-out-loud, edge-of-your-seat journey from ‘Once Upon a Time’ to ‘Happily Ever After’. Save a place on your shelf for the Tales from the Poisoned Apple series, it’s well-deserved. 5-stars and two thumbs way, way up!

Book two, at least as good as the first! I picked this series up because I liked the covers, I was looking for a light read after a heavy book. Instead I found a treasure. This second installment is a solid building on the first, retaining the quirkiness and humour of the first, while delving into the far deeper overarching plot. Can't wait for the next one!
