Tangled up in Love is a western romance about an unmarried young woman left to fend for herself and the handsome new sheriff in town. I enjoyed the story and the language and culture the author used, which was just right for the time period the book was set in. What stopped me enjoying this story even more, was that the interaction between the main characters sometimes felt abrupt – they behaved in a way that to me, didn’t seem right. Tangled up in love. A nice clean Western Romance That is what this book aimed to be and for the most part hit the mark. Old West, two pure characters attracted to each other, but have emotional and physical things keeping them apart. Pretty much makes for a nice read. As it stands that is all it is, but it could have been more. The good part of this book is you really want Ellen and James to get together. That is half of a good romance. Unfortunately, the emotional obstacle, they take offense to any Tangled up in love. A nice clean Western Romance That is what this book aimed to be and for the most part hit the mark. The physical obstacle, the plot, comes in halfway (literally at 57% of the book) changes slightly then comes in at full force. The way it is presented makes it feel a little forced. That is why I say this book could have been more. If the elements of the plot were introduced earlier they could wrap themselves in with the good part nicely. That would also give a reason for them to accidentally say things that offend each other. As it stands this is a nice little story, as you want Ellen and James to get together. One that is an easy read, but with a little work could have been great.

After her father’s death, Ellen Gray begs for a chance to be the town’s school teacher because she needed to make money. No man ever looked twice at plain ole’ Ellen until the new sheriff comes into town. The narrative is fairly easy, but can be a little slow and repetitive, which doesn’t deter the story too much. The reader easily climbs on board and rides out the story ‘til the end. An impulsive marriage proposal from an old friend could be the answer to Ellen’s financial security? What did it matter if Ellen’s heart wasn’t in it when her father made a deal with the man? And how can she shake off the feelings she has for the sheriff? Talk about being tangled up in love. A nicer cover would’ve been a benefit. The dull, generic image of a tangled knot really doesn’t relay the story well. Needed a graphic designer and a little more editing to fix the typos. Good drama. I liked Ellen’s fierce independence and determination in not needing a man to take care of her. But, of course, if you must pick a man. What better man than a cowboy, right? A nice western romance.

So for my first foray into the “western romance” genre, this was a pretty decent read. The author does a good job creating a cozy, “Gunsmoke” type setting that reminds me of watching old black and white westerns on TV land. As for the plot, it was just ok. It hit all the romance beats and fulfilled the promises laid out. The only problem is, it feels like the writer tried to cram a 300 page novel into a 150 page novella. Many of the scenes felt rushed and half developed. Between this and the “pl So for my first foray into the “western romance” genre, this was a pretty decent read. Many of the scenes felt rushed and half developed. Between this and the “plot pushing” (side characters showing up and saying literally one very plot relevant sentence and then leaving again/the two main characters acting completely eradic and seemingly out of character for the sake of advancing the plot or character tension) left a little to be desired. The reason I couldn’t give the book another star is the plethora of punctuation and grammatical errors and repeated phrasing. this was a gem that wasn’t quite polished enough. In the end, the western part of the story was good, the romance part fell flat

Harry meets Sally meets the Wild Wild West. This short novel by Amanda is a bold attempt to redefine a genre that deserves more exploration. From the protagonist trying to bottle her feelings to finally letting it all out (no spoilers), it's a beautiful tale of romance. The backdrop was perfect, a nostalgia-triggering world that invites you stay and fall in love with the characters. I just felt that the characterization could've gone deeper because there's certainly a lot of scope. Overall, it's Harry meets Sally meets the Wild Wild West.
