There are many circumstances shared that readers could relate to in their own lives. Being a story of real life, there were constant surprises and that led me to keep eagerly turning the pages, especially as I got deeper into the book. I’m looking forward to reading her other books.

I received this book via LibraryThing for review. Roxie and Alfred had some things I loved and some I did not. I really loved the picture on the cover of Roxie, the author’s grandmother, but the cover has a cheap feel to it. And there are numerous typos in the memoir. Editing was horrible if it even existed. The first editorial mistake was in the very beginning where the author writes: “This book is memoir…” That made a bad impression. I thoroughly enjoyed the story of Roxie and Alfred, but somewhere in the book, Roxie stopped being mentioned until the author casually mentions that Roxie had passed away. I had a difficult time relating to the author as a mother. But I appreciated her memories and stories of her grandparents. I would love to recommend this book, but I did not take anything away from it that I will never forget or something that I think would help another reader.

If you like multi-dimensional, ambitious, imperfect and, tenacious women, you will enjoy this book! Author Nancy Hinchliff introduces us to the women (and men) who shaped her life in a open and "pull no punches" manner. There are lots of unique and fascinating adventures for each generation but the over arching theme is that unconditional love, taking risks, hard work and honesty leave indelible marks and shape every person in this compelling family story.
