There was a lot of shock factor to the Hero's actions in Finding His Strength . . . shock factor just for the sake of the shock factor. It's too bad the author didn't take the time to explore the repercussions/consequences of the events; the heroine just kind of let things go without much of a reaction. HOWEVER, this book gave me a firm kick in the ass and saved me from a potential reading slump, so I'm rounding up. 🤗 Because there were positives . . . ==> arranged mafia marriage trope ==> unapologetic alpha hero ==> not a complete doormat heroine ==> very decent writing ==> HOT sex (view spoiler)[aside from the non-con which was just there to shock not to titillate (hide spoiler)] . . . and I think they outweighed the negatives . . .==> lacking in emotional depth ==> said lack meant less connection ==> consequences being played down I'm enjoying the series, so I'll definitely check out the next one. Happy reading!

A hot and steamy re-telling of greek mythology. Other than watching Jason and the Argonauts, I don't have much knowledge of greek mythology. Rather than gods and goddesses, the individuals in this story are the members of several crime syndicate families. The plot was engaging and the pace moved things along nicely, so that my attention never wavered. Both main characters were written with dimension and depth and, despite being very different, seemed to fit together perfectly. There were some great darker moments in the book too. Megara was strong and determined, picking her battles wisely and making the best of a situation where she had very little control. I very much liked her, and could believe in how her gentle and sweet nature would impact on Henrik. My first impression of Henrik was that he was a complete and utter **** . There was very little to like about this arrogant, egotistical and self-centred individual at first. Thankfully he did make amends, including knowing when he was in the wrong and needed to apologise. He definitely went through the most growth in the story, totally fulfilling the fantasy we all have of taming the bad boy! Whilst I very much enjoyed the story, there were two aspects that prevented it from hitting the full 5 stars for me. First was the speed with which Megara went from hating and fearing Henrik to not being able to get enough of him. Given the non-con scene and(view spoiler)[ the loss of her virginity (hide spoiler)] I couldn't quite believe that by the next night she was all up for lots of bedroom shenanigans with him. The other was how Henrick went from menacing bully to swooning suitor in the blink of an eye. Given that pair aren't even together 24/7 in those first few days it was too quick for me personally. I'm just not a fan of insa-love so I personally needed just a little more time of them building a connection, developing a bond. A time frame of a few weeks would have made all the difference, allowed me to believe in the D/s relationship that was emerging. Despite how it might sound, they were two minor issues that I overcame fairly quickly, allowing me to really enjoy what is a well written story. The amazing mix of steam, intrigue, politics, kink and power battles add up to make a really good read.

Well, I don't mind a rape fantasy (i can't believe I just wrote that) I don't ever want to read where it is actually rape and then I am supposed to love the asshole afterward. I don't care that he said sorry. This kind of stuff get s a little much for me. Interesting Hercules and Megara retelling though. Henrik Hercules is the illigitimate son & potential heir of a Mafia Lord. BUT, his potential inheritance is perpetually dangled in front of him due to the machinations & cruelty of his hated stepmother Hera. And her most recent plan (& requirement) is for Henrik to wed a rival's daughter, Megara. Megara's family is also Mafia but her father allowed her to continue her culinary studies to completion & then advised her it was for naught: she WOULD marry Henrik Hercules. End of discussion. Henrik isn't concerned, he'll wed & bed his wife & never look at her again. Megara is internally crushed, all her dreams & plans crushed by the dictates of her father. So, they marry. But now Hera wants Henrik to produce a male heir . . . . I genuinely loved this one. Megara is exactly (for me) the perfect blend of fiery, logical, adaptable & realistic. She fights Henrik but knows when to bide her time & use her mind to try & attain her goals. Especially after the 1st 'punishment' he doles out when she disobeys him. For me, I found Henrik was somewhat harder to like. Although he's gorgeous, outrageously but justifiably cocky & confident, lethal, cunning, smart & massively muscled, he is first & foremost focused on inheriting his father's realm & not concerned in the least HOW he gets it or WHAT he has to do. Including murder. So imprisoning his beautiful new wife in his palatial home & ensuring she's pregnant is nothing. Ms Stone, as always, crafts characters with DEPTH, characters the reader CARES, about, WONDERS about, ROOTS for, RAILS against; characters that the reader HOPES SOMEHOW do find a HEA ending despite their twisted & turbulent beginning & middle. And a plot that intrigues & pulls the reader deep into, that piques their interest so you are compelled to keep reading to the end. I found myself admiring Megara almost immediately & I slowly became enthralled by Henrik, he was fascinating how he could seem caring & thoughtful & then the ice & cruelty would sweep it away & leave the reader shocked or horrified at his words & deeds. A hard, hard man who was hard, hard to accept & yet Ms Stone manages to let small rays of light through exposing a childhood & life that molded him. And while this doesn't excuse much he's done but it does help Megara (& the reader) understand him & realize Henrik IS human. Flawed, damaged, deadly but human. And, it wouldn't be a Ms Stone book without dark bedroom desires being present: and Henrik has them in spades & is intent on starring Megara in every single one. I loved how Ms Stone creates Henrik & Megara's relationship & slowly adds layers in a tantilizing way that keeps a reader on tenterhooks. On top of all this, there is danger, betrayal, suspense, mystery & secondary characters of murky intent that help rachet this one up. I loved it & I think most readers will too. BUT, be aware: This one IS dark & not for everyone.

this started out so strong and I was loving it - henrik was a grade A asshole, my catnip. however as the story progressed, it lost me. I loved that the hero was a prick and that the heroine wasn’t sitting idly by and I also loved that she wasn’t turned on right away by him.. but then out of nowhere she likes him? how? what did I miss? and then when he admits he loves her? huh? I didn’t feel any love connection at all. oh well.

Finding His Strength by Measha Stone is exactly! Henrik and Megara are wonderful characters and their romance is one for the ages. These two are forced into a marriage that neither wants. Megara wants nothing to do with Henrik and knows he can be a monster when the need arises, but she is just as strong when she has to stand up for herself. I love that about her. Henrik Hercules is the illegitimate son of Jackson Olympus, the stepson of Hera Olympus, half-brother to Castor and nephew to Haden. I had to look up Megara, but all the pieces fit. This story is dark and triggering. There is are sex scenes in the story along with spankings with a leather belt (in private and public), riding crop, and flogger. As in all stories that I have read revolving around spankings, BDSM themes, the female character initially thinks she is flawed for being stimulated by the spanking, but quickly comes around and begins to crave it. I found it interesting, Henrik’s conflict was all internal, a sense of acceptance, belonging, and love. Megara did not seem to have that growth besides her acceptance of her “bedroom” preferences. This novel did play out like a Greek play—full of characters with a lot of drama. I am not sure what to make of Megara’s father; he initially appeared caring and considerate, however by the end he was a jack wad! Hera was as vicious as mythological stories present her. Although I enjoyed the mythology angle and the story was entertaining, the sexual assault scene threw me off and my interest began to wane. By the time the story got to the dressmaker scene, I was shocked it was not more perverse. I am still intrigued by the author to read something else written by her.

This book is amazing. I loved every second I got to spend with these character's. Hendrick is the son of and heir of a Mafia Lord. However he has the worst stepmom in the world and she dangles his inheritance in front of him. She has a requirement for him to become the heir that quiet frankly he is entitled to. She wants Henrick to marry the daughter of their biggest rival Megara. They are also a mafia family but she has never been married off and allowed to continue her culinary studies till she has completed them. However she is told that she has wasted her time and she is to marry Henrick. As you can imagine this does not sit well with her but Henrick doesn't give a crap what she thinks and wants. Once they are married though they are suddenly faced with having to produce and heir. None of this matter to Henrick. He will just do what he has to and go on with his life. Now I know that you are thinking he is the most awful thing in the world. But hang in there he will change your mind. This book is full of suspense and twist and turns you will never ever see coming. This book is deep and dark and will have you reading as fast as you can. I loved it and I know that a lot of you will too.

The woman was a virgin and the next day she's orgasming with her brutal husband and apparently over the rape. I felt so many emotions while reading this book, disgust and intrigue, anger and joy, I felt the connection between the characters and couldn’t help but cheer for them to succeed. Henrik is a dark hero who rarely feels remorse for his actions, is driven, possessive, rough, and has some serious insecurities he has to work through. You want to hate him, especially in the beginning of the book... and the middle and even a bit at the end, but you also can’t help but feel bad for him and love his transition from alphahole to so much more. Megara is a wonderful combination between being sweet and sassy, and while she knows her place, she also never stops dreaming. I love that she has the strength to stand up against her man and fight for what she wants, but adds a softer side for Henrik’s rough edges. There’s some wicked drama, political moves within a mafia style world, an evil stepmother, you’re never really sure who to believe or trust, and of course, a romance that blooms in the darkest of circumstances! I ended up loving this book and can only hope there’s more books set within this world!

It does leave the Hero with a steep learning curve on his path to redemption. I like the guy he is by the end of the book, even though I hated him early on. And while I don’t think I could ever have loved him after starting that way I do think there was enough of a build up showing her early life and how she’s basically been trained to accept at least some of this as part of her reality. That being said, he says he regrets what he did but he doesn’t really apologize and that set me against him. By the end he’s gone a long way towards showing a different side though and I ended up fairly content with how things turned out. Aside from that It’s well written, and very hot.

This is a very intricate story pitting brother against brother, families fighting for power and an arranged marriage begun with unwilling partners. It is also a complicated and intriguing series of incidents involving Henrik and his father running a network of over twenty different families, supposedly working together on illegal deals. Henrik is a strong, dominant, Alpha male, often labeled a monster, who is able to kill with his bare hands. And, after a debilitating incident involving Henrik and a traitor from another family, the two major families involved decide to mend the rift by arranging a marriage between Henrik and Megara. Neither had ever met, and neither is especially thrilled with the idea. Megara had plans for her future and they did not involve an arranged marriage. Henrik, while not overly thrilled with the idea, agrees in order to keep peace. He decides immediately that he will brook no disobedience from his wife, either before or during his marriage. I so enjoyed watching the individual growth of both Megara and Henrik, as well as the way they were able to interact with each other. The attraction between these two is exciting, powerful, kinky and HOT! When necessary, Henrik demonstrated to Megara how punishment could be pain, but at other times pain can lead to pleasure. I would highly recommend this book to everyone who loves a dark read. Thank you Measha Stone!

This is the second story in the Dirty Heroes series. It's a Hercules retelling and an extremely interesting reworking of the myth. Hercules is not very sympathic. Even as he realizes his feelings for Megara it's hard to justify all of his past behavior. This is very much a dark romance. It's sexy, dark, and interesting to read. The conclusion is very satisfying on a romantic level and on a plot level. All the characters are written well. My biggest problem is that Hercules really isn't that dark when he comes to Megara. Yes he enjoys rough sex and elements of BDSM, but other than his initial rape of Megara he ends up being a fairly reasonable guy. Which is why I feel like this is a 4 star and not a 5 star read. The story is too dark to just be a romance, but too romantic too live up to the level of darkness the plot amps you up to expect. If Hercules had been more ruthless with Megara and there'd been a far more difficult internal battle for her to love him I would have liked the story more. Triggers- Lots of them here. Rape, sexual slavery, death, violence. I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book is part of the Dirty Heroes collection. What I loved about this book-the an olde world feel to it. It could almost be a historical book, then a cellphone comes out! I loved it! Henrik starts off the story with a bang (tbh, a dead bang) and the action flows from there. Everything that Henrik does is for a single purpose and when his next task is to marry Megara to unify their families, he does so unquestionably. There is lots of scheming from all quarters and Henrik takes it in stride. This book is part of the Dirty Heroes collection. What I loved about this book-the an olde world feel to it. Henrik is calm & measured, which is why I didn’t hate him after the opening scene-although he did give me reasons to hate him later! Megara is a sweetheart, who is moulded to his tastes and supports him; she softens him so gradually that the good man inside emerges. My only comment for consideration would be the number of characters introduced in the first chapter. It was hard to keep track of names & relationships & I had to refer back to the first chapter a couple of times to figure it out. Overall, I loved the story & hope there will be more to come in this world. I received a copy of this book. My honest opinion is voluntarily provided.

I really enjoyed this book and I can’t wait to read the next book by the author.

So, this is a retelling of the Hercules myth. We have Henrik Hercules who is trying to please his father so that he can be named a legitimate heir. The latest thing that Henrik has to do is to marry Megara and produce an heir. Henrik does every single thing he can to get his father's approval, as well as his step-mother. The problem is that they keep moving the goalposts on him, especially Hera. When that happens to you, you either walk away or you try harder to make the people happy. Henrik definitely went with the try harder route, which didn't make him happy in any way, but he did it anyway. I like Megara. I think that she has a calming personality and one that kind of changes people, but she doesn't just go out and change things, it's just her influence. I would love to see more of this world.

This is a story of two people who are forced together by their families into a situation that neither wanted. Their journey is dark and gritty but as they get to know each other they may just find out that they are exactly what the other needs.

Finding His Strength was a story that kept me on the edge of my seat, going back & forth between rage, and sighing in delight, which sounds crazy coming from me to be honest. Megara is a strong heroine who was forced to marry a monster named Henrik, who was the one who enraged me obviously. She swears she'll never forget his behavior, which was utterly atrocious, and yet, she gave in a lot quicker than I liked to be honest. Luckily, there was more to Henrik than he allowed to be seen or act upon even, so her light slowly seeped into his life, which brought out some actual humanity in him. Now, I'm not saying everything was wine & roses, as it took some time for him to show it, but you know. There are twists & turns that allowed for f-bomb dropping, while some dark elements came through which had me holding my breath. However, I couldn't look away for anything, and finished it all in one sitting. So, hit those one click buttons to see how it all plays out, as I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL BRAVE ENOUGH!

Henrik is a really messed up man. Is one of those characters that you have a hard time accepting. He’s unapologetically cruel and his actions are questionable. Megara Creon is the daughter of one of the Network families. What she ever wanted was to open her own restaurant. However, she finds herself forcibly married to Henrik. She tries extremely hard to keep her anger and hate towards him, but even her husband’s actions can’t stop her from falling for him. She sees a gentler side of him she can’t ignore. When I finished the book, I struggled with my rating. I liked the story but couldn’t get past some of Henrik’s actions. The author managed to show Henrik’s human side as well. After all, all he ever wanted was to be recognized. The book is dark with some BDSM elements as well. I really liked the Greek mythology background, it was intriguing!

This book has Measha stone's style. Very intriguing read. I started it and couldn't put the book down until I finished. If you read Kristof to the same author, you will find many common elements between the two books. Dark romance. Very dark in that genre. I don't know how I felt towards the first intimate encounter. It was really hard to read. But after that the novel flows smoothly and I am glad that Megara was the salvation that Henrik needed from the dark path that he was walking in.
