I am so excited when I see a new book from this author. This series has been amazing. We finally see Van as not the second in command, but a man who does not know how to handle his feelings. Carol is his mate. He knows this. But Carol is fragile right now. He just seems to be a bumbling fool around her. His protective instincts are high. Carol is so guarded. She doesn't trust anyone. Even with all the effort Van puts in, she is confused. Also, she won't confide in anyone. The action, twists and I am so excited when I see a new book from this author. This series has been amazing. *squeal I always knew I would fall hard for Van. Carol is a lucky girl. Their story was full of so much pain and obstacles. But they both helped the other through. Broken... Carol's captivity has left her broken and living in fear. Not only can she not control her wolf but she's constantly looking over her shoulder for the "buyer". Van is used to being in control and always having a plan. Unfortunately these two traits are absent when it concerns Carol. She's his mate and he wants to help her but he feels useless. This is a NON-SPOILER REVIEW. The Lion's Loyalty by Emilia Hartley is the third book in the Beasts series. Here is a sweet and spicy uplifting story. Van and Carol's story is a really emotional read. There is a lot of angst and love in this story. I really like that you get to "visit" characters from the previous books, but the focus of the story is Van and Carol. I loved the dragon shifter and hope we see more of him. This is the 3rd book in the series and like the first two it's great! Poor Carol had been kidnapped by crazy doctor's and she hadn't been a shifter for very long so didn't know how to protect herself. After being rescued she tries so hard to connect with her wolf. Van, the lion shifter and also second to the Alpha knows he feels something for her and tries to help her cope plus control her wolf. Great storyline with great characters! Definitely recommend it. This book really appealed to me. I liked Van and Carol so much and my heart ached for both of them. The story line was very emotionally intense and I thought, extremely realistic. Carol's anxiety, doubts about herself and difficulty of just getting through each day was heartbreakingly real. Van's anger, frustration and guilt made perfect sense and came across as totally genuine. This couple's romance touched my heart. This is my honest, voluntary review. This book really appealed to me. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book in a box set. Book 3 is about Carol, a wolf shifter and Van, a Lion shifter. It helps if you read books 1 and 2 to find out a little about Carol and to find out why she is the way she is. Oh my heart goes out to her. She is like a frightened little bird. Always looking over her shoulder , plus fighting with her inner beast. She knows Van has always been there, working in the bar for Dante, pack leader and tiger shifter. Pity there wasn’t an Epilogue to reunite them all to do a catch up.

Third book of the series. Carol was saved from the doctors but the emotional toll has hurt her severely. Van is there for her but can he bring her out of her shell and show her how he feels for her? The story shows you the ups and downs as Carol tries to do more than just survive. I loved haw Van handled all the situations and his devotion.

You don't have to read the first two to understand this story, but the characters from those books are in this story and vice versa. It seems that Emilia Hartley can only write fantastic stories! Her stories are always the books you need to read as soon as they come out, they are that good. She knows how to create fantastic characters that all work together, they blend together, but they are all individuals. You feel like they are all part of your group of friends. She creates fantastic worlds, where there are shifters and humans and how in some cases they coexist peacefully, sometimes not. Of course the shifters are the ones that suffer at the hands of humans who want to learn the secret to healing fast and such. In this story, it is the continuation of Carol's dilemma where she had been kidnapped and experimented on for months by doctors, in secret of course. She was able to escape on her own, but she is and was still learning how to be a shifter after she was bitten while on an ambulance call. She was reunited with her shifter pack in The Hyena's Hope. She has heard that if she can't control her animal, shifting when she shouldn't, that she will be put down because she won't be safe for others. She has had a hard time since her kidnapping dealing with things. As a paramedic, she loved helping others, but because of the kidnapping and experimentation on her, she can't stand the smell of all the medicinal stuff, it freaks her out. She doesn't have any money, she doesn't have a job, she was skinny before the turning and lost weight during the experimentation. Now she doesn't have money to pay for food or clothing or the rent for the apartment over the bar. She had been eating burgers at the bar, but when she heard that they are running a tab for her food, she wouldn't eat there any more. She is also frightened that the person who the kidnappers sold her to will come to collect her to do who knows what to her. The only time she feels safe and her animal is quiet is when she is around Van, the Alpha's second-in-command. She thinks he is around her to spy on her for the Alpha. Van has known that Carol is his mate since she escaped her kidnappers. When he went looking for where it was because they kidnapped Lily in The Hyena's Hope, he smells Carol's scent at a shack. He tears that place apart knowing that Carol had been kept there at some time. He wants to do anything to make things easier for her, but she won't let him in. He doesn't know what to do to help and he can't stay away from her. They have the computer from the doctors that experimented on her, so he can read all the things they did to her, but they don't know who will be coming for her. So between helping her with controlling her animal, keeping her safe from someone else kidnapping her, working his job and doing for his Alpha and wanting to teach her about being her mate, he is kept busy. The part I liked best was when she realizes that he is her mate and that she had to be changed, abet accidentally, to be the mate for him. Can she get over the trauma? Can she trust Van and his lion? Will she figure out she is his mate? Will the shadowy figure grab her or will she run away? I am leaving this review for having received the ARC but I do so gladly because this story is about surviving a horrible situation and learning to trust again. They gave regrets but overcoming them makes them stronger. The storyline is unique to shifters but touches on humanity with the perseverance to try to overcome tragedy. The characters are well written and show strength of character in the face of adversity. This is another great story in the series and speaks to your heart. The complexity of the topic is handled with grace and shows how love and caring can help tragic circumstances. This book will not disappoint you and draws you into the story and takes you on a journey of self realization for the characters. I highly recommend this book and series. Unfortunately, before she and her new other side could come to an understanding, she was kidnapped by some crazy scientists and experimented on. Now that she's been rescued, she's trying to come to terms with her new circumstances. This book is aptly named, because Van is loyal to Carol, almost to a fault. He stands beside Carol, knowing they are fated mates, but afraid to tell her in case she blocks him out in fear. I thought the road to Carol gaining understanding with her other side and her new circumstances took a little long for me. Then I re read the book and saw how the pack did not exactly help too much at first. This was more in depth of what a changed shifter might go through. It is mostly with Van's learning and understanding of Carol that she slowly comes to terms with her whole self. I enjoyed some of the glimpses into Dante and Sadie's family. Dante's pack is growing, despite his efforts, lol. This was a lovely tale of one fated mate's patience, loyalty, and love bringing his mate to him, and healing her in the process.

I enjoyed the new shifter and feel there could be an interesting story for him that I look forward to reading. The only negative for me was that dealing with the emotional part took so much of the story and seemed a bit dragged out while the ending seems rushed and could have been expanded. Van is a lion shifter, second in command in his pack. Usually, cool, calm, in control, and laid-back, he feels none of those things around newly turned wolf shifter, Carol. Carol was struggling to learn to control her wolf, then was kidnapped not once but twice (read previous books ) and now she has no self-esteem, confidence, or feeling of adequacy. Carol is Van's mate but he is lost on how to connect with her. These characters are beautifully written with empathy and truth, even more than others in this series. A really worthwhile read but be prepared to shed a tear as you cannot put the book down. I received this ARC from Booksprout.

This is a beautiful book of desperation and hope. Fierce loyalty despite everything. True love at its core. Carol and Van are captivating characters. Carol is scared of a shadow and cannot connect with her wolf. Frightened of everything she had lost the will to live. Van is her fierce protector, even though she does not know it. His love for her will help her through. I loved this book. I was engrossed from the first chapter.
