This is a solid entry in the low-carb cookbooks if you are a fan of the standard American diet. Some recipes are paleo, gluten free, vegetarian, keto, etc. They tend to be pretty meat-heavy. Fiber-rich vegetables are included liberally, as are high-fat foods like heavy whipping cream and cream cheese. There's a wide range of flavors and types of foods, with lots of high-fat favorite kinds of foods like sausage stuffed mushrooms, others in the pricier meat-lover range like veal and filet mignon d This is a solid entry in the low-carb cookbooks if you are a fan of the standard American diet. Some recipes are paleo, gluten free, vegetarian, keto, etc. They tend to be pretty meat-heavy. Fiber-rich vegetables are included liberally, as are high-fat foods like heavy whipping cream and cream cheese. There's a wide range of flavors and types of foods, with lots of high-fat favorite kinds of foods like sausage stuffed mushrooms, others in the pricier meat-lover range like veal and filet mignon dishes, a wide variety of healthier seafood dishes, and so on. There is a vegetarian section but you can always tell when non-vegetarians write vegetarian sections in cookbooks because those are all the recipes that seem aggressively healthy and/or less tasty. A desert section is included, though it uses Swerve (an artificial sugar substitute) and I personally don't cook with those. Nutritional information is provided for each recipe, but like other cookbooks put out by this publisher there are very few photos (generally one per chapter). More photos would definitely enhance the cookbook. The author also goes into the reasons people choose low-carb diets and a little bit about the different kinds. All in all, these are easy recipes that will please most low-carb folks. The foods are traditional foods familiar to most, and they're pretty easy to put together. Since I cook for family members who are vegetarian and allergic to dairy, there are very few recipes that will work for me. It's likely to be a hit with families who don't have special dietary needs, though. I received a digital ARC of this book for the purpose of review.

Bek Davis’ 5-Ingredient Low-Carb Diet Cookbook: 100 Easy Recipes for Better Health is a good resource for folks looking to simplify their low-carb diets. I’ve been trying to eat less carbs, but I’m not a huge fan of meat and Davis’ had a number of suggestions of filling, tasty, easy to prepare recipes which would work for me. ... and it's available now on KU. Aside from a startling lack of photography, I feel like this is a solid cookbook. I liked the recipes and while at first glance I thought the recipes with the steak and scallops would blow my family's food budget on one meal, I think that with some planning the recipes could be affordable as long as you don't try to do surf and turf nightly and for larger families like mine, make use of bulk stores like Costco. This is a great cookbook that will be perfect for anyone interested in a lower carb diet or quick weight loss. The book has a great variety of recipes. I love that each dish includes prep time, cook time, the nutrition information including macros. All of the recipes are relatively simple - nothing too elaborate or difficult. I can't wait to try the Harvest Salad, Zucchini Fritters, Sun Dried Tomato-Stuffed Chicken, Carnitas with Coleslaw, Cauliflower Steak Pizzas, and Lemon Cakes. I love carbs but I really try to not eat many as I am no longer pre-diabetic as I cut down on them as much as I could. These recipes make eating less or no carbs so easy ... and only FIVE INGREDIENTS???? Bring it on ... these recipes look so good and the recipes are well written and make sense. Yummy book! As always, I try to find a reason to not rate with stars as I love emojis (outside of their incessant use by "🙏-ed Social Influencer Millennials/#BachelorNation survivors/etc. " on Instagram and Twitter... Get a real job, people!) so let's give it 🥓🥓🥓🥓🥓 This book is also cross reviewed at http://www.facebook.com/janetsbookcorner

Complex carbohydrates, like whole grains, beans, some fruits, and vegetables provide needed nutrients and fiber. Because of their complex nature, they take longer to digest and have minimal impact on blood sugar. Not all low-carb diets are the same, as the more restrictive ones (Paleo, Keto, and Atkins), are not really sustainable long term without health repercussions. The 5-Ingredient Low-Carb Diet Cookbook: 100 Easy Recipes for Better Health adopts the philosophy that creating flavorful low-carb meals is not complicated and will save money. The introduction includes tips for success and lists of foods to enjoy or avoid. The author goes on to a short tutorial on kitchen prep and some shopping tips. The recipes themselves are divided into logical sections, which I have listed below with some of my favorite dishes. Smoothies and Breakfasts: Mediterranean Egg Scramble; Tomato and Spinach Egg Bake Soups and Salads: Roasted Vegetable Soup; Roasted Vegetable Salad Starters and Sides: Lemony Hummus; Cheesy Lemon Asparagus; Pork Stuffed Mushrooms Seafood and Poultry Mains: Tilapia with Tomatoes and Wine Sauce; Chili-Lime Chicken Pork, Lamb, and Beef Mains: Carnitas with Coleslaw; Rosemary Pork Roast; Sesame Pork and Bok Choy; Beef Skewers with Balsamic-Soy Cabbage Vegetarian Mains: Southwest Spaghetti Squash; Edamame Bowls; Zucchini and Squash Tomato Gratin Desserts, Dressings, and Staples: Avocado Chocolate Pudding; Spinach-Basil Pesto; Tzatziki Sauce Overall, there is a lot to like about this cookbook. I wish that there were substantially more photographs, as the colorful finished dishes would be inspirational to readers. The 5-Ingredient Low-Carb Diet Cookbook proves that it is possible to eat well, despite having low carbohydrates. I was given the opportunity to read The 5-Ingredient Low-Carb Diet Cookbook: 100 Easy Recipes for Better Health via the publisher. It was my choice to review this book and my opinion is freely given.

The keto diet still seems to be all the rage right now, but it's really a hard diet to maintain long term. A low-carb diet that incorporates a lot of fresh vegetables is really the way to go and that is the focus of this cookbook. I really like this cookbook for a number of reasons: 1) It's informative. It lays out the benefits of low-carb eating and the link between carbs and diabetes. 2) The layout. It's easy to read and while it's not strictly 5 ingredients, the additional ingredients are things you would use for most dishes (olive oil, salt, pepper, etc). 3) The ingredients are no-frill. I can walk into any Kroger or WalMart and find the items on the list. 4) You likely already have most of what you need to make these recipes (a blender, a skillet, etc). 5) Recipes are designated as gluten-free, vegetarian, dairy-free, etc. to make meeting dietary needs easier. My only complaint (and this applies to all cookbooks) is that it needs more photos. There isn't a photo of every recipe. I look forward to making the Brussel Sprout Hash and Cracked Eggs and a photo would be nice. Same for the Harvest Salad with acorn squash. It's a fairly straightforward recipe but I would still like to see what the finished product is going to look like before I start. There is a good variety of dishes in the book, from basic American foods to Mediterranean dishes, Greek, and Mexican. This is also a great cookbook for anyone who just wants to learn how to incorporate more vegetables into their meals. 4.5 stars, 5 if it had more photos.

This is a five ingredient cookbook that gives you a ton of low carb recipes that are easy to follow. The main idea of the cookbook is simple cooking. What did I like? The pictures for this cookbook are AMAZING. Most of the recipes involve a lot of greens which was a tad expected but the recipes are geared towards being healthy. I love how the author also gives substitutions, and variations... for me this is important because it helps you really make a recipe your own. So wide variety of usage, and some really great looking recipes. Would I buy or recommend? Just based on the beautiful pictures, I would definitely buy. Not that there were a huge amounts of new recipes but I’d just love it if half of them turn out as good as the pictures. There is a chocolate pudding made with avocado that sounds delicious in the desserts too. Thoughts for the author? Congratulations on your new release! Great book and omg the pictures. Bek Davis writes from personal experience, needing to get to a healthy weight. I love that she honestly explains how one might feel when beginning a low-carb diet, but I love even more that she takes a sensible approach with recipes that contain low-carbs, moderate proteins, and healthy fats. Of the 100 recipes in this book, I thought our family would eat 74 of them. The vast majority of ingredients are readily available in our small town, which is always a plus. YES. YES. Yes yes yes. This book has the simplicity and ease of a box of mac and cheese with all the nutrients of a meal that you actually have to make. The recipes are not strictly 5 ingredients only. Herbs, seasonings, oils -- these all don't count. But as far as produce, meats, that sort of thing, these recipes are the kind that will not make you gasp for air as the cashier rings it up at the grocery store and will not necessitate purchasing bizarre ingredients you will only use once. Full of super normal, relatively easy recipes that use only 5 ingredients (outside of a few staples). There were lots of interesting ideas, a wide variety of main courses, appetizers, breakfasts, etc. I especially liked the intro, which was just full of handy references for low carb eating and cooking. Not all of the recipes are good for me as I’m preparing to have bariatric surgery, but it’s a good springboard. I’d like to see more photos in a cookbook, but maybe that’s just me. I received a free copy of this cookbook from the publisher in exchange for my honest review. While our family isn’t dieting by any means, expanding the kids palate to now look for and eat carbs first on a meal is important for healthy diets in the future. The recipes were delicious variations on some of our favorites, there were not extensive or peculiar ingredient lists and directions were simple. Everything I need and love.
