Ugh I love Cassandra Jean’s art! It’s beautiful! The Mortal Instruments means so much to me, and reading this volume just doubles my love for this series. I seriously need to do a reread because it’s been a long time since I last read it. I enjoy these graphic novels so much. It feels like coming home to be with these characters and in this world again. I will forever love the Shadowhunter world, and Cassandra Clare. So excited for more volumes to be released!

I swear these grapic novels r the best thing ever. The art in thm is so incredibly beautiful. I really enjoyed how fast paced this one was, makes me nostalgic to when I read the books for the first time 🥺. Also, hsoahsishs ALEC AND MAGNUS. Thats it. ALEC AND MAGNUS. Nothing more to add.

can’t really decide between 3.5 - 4 but the second half was better so I’ll round up in this case! Man, the graphic novel format works so well for the mortal instruments. I always thought it would translate so well to image which is why I’ve always been sad about the actual adaptations we HAVE in film, but these? bang. so on point every volume. Actually this volume wins too because it has a bunch of my favourite tmi scenes in. I always say tmi is cassie’s weakest work but i do think (again) seein can’t really decide between 3.5 - 4 but the second half was better so I’ll round up in this case! I always say tmi is cassie’s weakest work but i do think (again) seeing it visually really helps it (CJ’s art is so phenomenal) and also I always forget how fun every relationship is in tmi? Like I always think alec and jace are nothing compared to Will & Jem but actually they’re just different? they’re still fun & I can appreciate them a lot more now. Plus like, watching alec and magnus’ growth again OBVIOUSLY delights me, one of my favourite aspects of this series for sure. ALSO simon and clary are so cute???? Knowing what I know about their relationship developments in future from this point in the story just made me realise even more how fun they are. idk bottom of the line it’s like this series really is a fun time and this format helps me appreciate that I think.

These graphic novels are such a good adaptation of the Mortal Instruments! This specific volume finishes off City of Ashes (the second book), and I loved how it wrapped up. The ending of CoA is absolutely amazing and it was just as good in this graphic novel. Cassandra Jean’s art style is perfect for the Shadowhunter Chronicles and the characters are exactly how I imagine them. The graphic novels are perfect for any die-hard fan or someone who is just getting into the Shadowhunter world!

Is it any surprise that this got five stars? I am trash for anything Shadowhunter (or Sebastian Morgenstern/Jace Herondale) and I really want the rest of the series to be done so I can keep enjoying them forever.

I really enjoyed this one. It flowed nicely with the books. I’m excited for the story to keep going and meet Sebastian. I also don’t feel like she’s left any important parts out from the full novels.

I flew through this one in under an hour. I don’t know what I’m going to do now that I’ve finished all of the graphic novels currently out. They just keep getting better and better and I cannot wait for the next one to come out!

Don't underestimate me, I will buy and read all of these graphic novels lol that is how much of a fan I am of these books and Cassandra Jean's art. The only reason this gets 4 stars is that it's just not the whole book lol, though I understand that not everything can fit in here, even though it's split into 2 volumes. It's a shame I have to wait a year for each one of these, but at least it gives me time to re-read City of Glass before the first half of that one comes out! :)

I have been thoroughly enjoying this series thus far through the illustrations provided by Cassandra Jean. She's extremely talented, and manages to capture the most important scenes in the series. I have been thoroughly enjoying this series thus far through the illustrations provided by Cassandra Jean. Sadly, was never a fan of the mortal instruments but my friends talked about this one a lot so I tried to read it but could never really get into it. I kept putting it off and lost interest in the plot a lot.

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. I know City of Ashes can be a snooze fest, but I’m genuinely shocked at how boring this volume was. Nothing really happened and the stuff that did happen, happened really fast, i.e. the end when we’re on the boat. Simon and Maia got captured, Simon “died,” Jace breaks out of the Malachi Configuration with Alec’s help, Clary created the Fearless rune, Imogan died for Jace, Jace saved Simon, then boom bop pow Climon broke up and that’s it. There was not a single Sizzy scene, the absolute audacity. I know City of Ashes can be a snooze fest, but I’m genuinely shocked at how boring this volume was. There was not a single Sizzy scene, the absolute audacity. I adore that scene when, all hopped up on the Fearless rune, Alec almost outs himself. The best scene in City of Ashes period, let alone in this volume, is sexy vampire neck biting vol. 1. Had me laughing about CoLS when Simon tells Izzy, No! I can’t bite you I could kill you! Jace didn’t fight me off when I bit him! And Izzy’s like, Jace is in love with the idea of dying, there’s a difference. LMAO HYSTERICAL. Maia is so beautiful and I wish she was utilized more. And last but not least,,, couldn’t go a TMI graphic novel review without saying it. Luke Garaway? That man can get it.

hi before I write this review I just wanna say I totally failed my 10 book goal for 2020, so I have it set to 5 books this year so I can give myself a chance to get back into reading since I haven’t completed a goal since 2017... SO IM BACK HELLO I PLAN TO READ MORE!! Anyway, I randomly stumbled upon the latest graphic novel and I couldn’t be more happy (literally searched it on amazon the day it came out? what luck amiright?), and i’ve been on an off reading it but since i’m stuck quarantining hi before I write this review I just wanna say I totally failed my 10 book goal for 2020, so I have it set to 5 books this year so I can give myself a chance to get back into reading since I haven’t completed a goal since 2017... I can’t wait for the next one and while I wait I will definitely continue reading the books! I have a couple more to go and these get me excited to keep reading them! I hope to be more active on here! see y’all soon!

I really enjoyed this book and it follows the story line to a t. I was very overall happy with the plot lines. I was on the other hand, not entirely happy with the artwork. Don't get me wrong it's good and you can tell who is who for the most part but I felt like there could have been more attention in many places. The details in the artwork really make or break a 5 star review for me and instead of trying to get these books out fast if they took that extra time to work on the details these book I really enjoyed this book and it follows the story line to a t. 3 Stars I always just think theses graphic novels are cute, fluffy and just quick easy and nice read. I always think these book are just okay. The artwork is amazing, however, if you want to get the full and complete story of The Mortal Instruments I would not recommend this book because it misses key points and you don’t get to know what character or the plot line of the whole story.

Pre-gaming for Chain of Iron by finally reading this and rereading the three previous comics as well, and it's incredible how quickly I fall in love with these characters over and over again. I forgot how much I missed Clary, Jace, Simon, Alec, Izzy, & Magnus. And it's not only my love of Cassandra Clare's story and character development, but the way Cassandra Jean is able to do beautifully bring these characters to life. Lemme just say that the exclusive scene between Jace and Valentine did not satisfy me. Far too poetic for Jace. AnYWaYs, it’s loving Maia hours. She’s a cinnamon roll that would not hesitate to kill you and I love how much ‘screen’ time she has in this novel. As always, very short, but it manages to sum up the important moments (+ some fluffy Malec or Max being adorable). I like to think of them as tiny recaps you’d read before moving onto the next book. (stan simon for clear skin)

Every graphic novel in this series gets better and better. Cassandra Jean blows me away every time with her astounding illustrations. The cover art honestly brings me to tears, her color schemes and styling is so so good. Having already read TMI multiple times, this is such an easy read to visually experience such a well loved story without committing to the entire length of the book!!

I think I actually like the graphic novel series more than the original books. Probably because the graphic novels cut out a lot of Jace’s gross dialogue. As always Magnus and Alec are the best part. The art continues to amaze me. But as the old saying goes “Art is pretty, incest is not.” So yeah same complaint with this book as the original, the incest just ruins it for me.
