I got this book for my 8-year-old to do. Unfortunately she has not taken to it and has taken a long time just to do a few pages. I think at her age her handwriting is good enough and she doesn't find it fun practising it further at home in the way it is done in this book. Unfortunately she has not taken to it and has taken a long time just to do a few pages. I think at her age her handwriting is good enough and she doesn't find it fun practising it further at home in the way it is done in this book. (The way the school get her practising her handwriting at school is more subtle by having her complete a learning log entry each week on subjects of her choice that meet a criteria which can have writing and pictures and is much more creative than this.) Having said that the pages she has done so far her handwriting is very neat (neater than normal), and also other books in the series have been well-received by my 4-year-old (although maybe that is because they have different attitudes to learning or because the books aimed at the younger groups are more interesting?). Inside this book are lots of exercises mainly where you need to copy some joined up text that is already there into a space provided and that's pretty much it. So there doesn't seem to be much variety. I'm not worried that my daughter hasn't taken to this book because in this day and age your handwriting is little used in professional life anyway with people working mainly on computers with keyboards (although it is still a necessary skill for school life in England but for that I think her writing is good enough already). All the pages are in black and white with a bit of blue and red in places. There is plenty of white space to write on. This is book 6 of a series of eleven books that take your child's handwriting from year R (three different books aimed at this age group) to year 6 (with one book focusing on Style). In this way these books are not only designed for home use but also for teachers to use in the classroom if they wanted. Overall the book had little variety and didn't appeal to my 8-year-old daughter.
