    In this revised and updated (2020) edition, Bowden, a nutritionist, puts together a book that explains the key tenets of low-carb eating. He describes the original low-carb diets (Atkins, Zone, etc.), as well as the Paleo way of eating, the Keto diets, and some related ones. For each, Bowden describes its features, and—more importantly—“who it works for, who should look elsewhere” and his personal take on each one. For anyone considering a low (or even just lower) carb diet, this is a valuable b In this revised and updated (2020) edition, Bowden, a nutritionist, puts together a book that explains the key tenets of low-carb eating. He describes the original low-carb diets (Atkins, Zone, etc.), as well as the Paleo way of eating, the Keto diets, and some related ones. For each, Bowden describes its features, and—more importantly—“who it works for, who should look elsewhere” and his personal take on each one. For anyone considering a low (or even just lower) carb diet, this is a valuable book. However, for the non-scientifically-minded, it’s not a quick or easy book to read, since Bowden gets into some detail about how the body functions. At one point, I had a half-dozen bookmarks marking places to go back and re-read, at which point I took them all out. I then started with the FAQs chapter (which answered many of my questions), then went back to the beginning and read it through with greater understanding. (Even after finishing, I went back to make notes on things to remember.) Chapters are well-documented, plus he includes his favorite diet-related books and websites. Highly recommended for anyone interested in the subject.
