Straight talk and tough love on power, beauty, and the art of the sale   Called the “Queen of Beauty” and the most influential lone woman to impact the beauty industry since Estée Lauder by the New York Times, Leslie Blodgett’s story is anything but ordinary. As the CEO of the struggling Bare Escentuals, Blodgett shifted the company’s focus and launched bareMinerals. In a Straight talk and tough love on power, beauty, and the art of the sale   Called the “Queen of Beauty” and the most influential lone woman to impact the beauty industry since Estée Lauder by the New York Times, Leslie Blodgett’s story is anything but ordinary. As the CEO of the struggling Bare Escentuals, Blodgett shifted the company’s focus and launched bareMinerals. In a move that would revolutionize the beauty industry, she went on QVC and sold $45,000 worth of makeup in the first six minutes. Before long, she was selling $1.4 million an hour. In 2006 Blodgett took the company public in one of the largest cosmetic IPOs of the decade, and in 2010 the company was acquired by Shiseido for $1.8 billion. Pretty Good Advice provides beauty secrets, business tips, life lessons, and lots of personal stories. Some ideas are common sense. Some are pretty unconventional. Most importantly, everything in this book is honest, all tried (and sometimes failed) by Blodgett. Fun, frank, and filled with actionable advice, Pretty Good Advice is a glimpse into the unlikely story of a successful beauty executive who approached her work and life a little bit differently.

From the start, Leslie treated her fan base, the community she built, like family. She’s always been a part of a very small group- famous people who are grounded, down to earth and not unreachable. Leslie doesn’t come across as an expert looking down at her readers giving advice, but rather as a friend, sharing her story, the lessons she’s learned, and passing them on to us to help us in our daily lives. I loved PGA because the stories, lessons, advice are all things the average person can use in their every day life. We’ve all felt awkward, embarrassed, we all have our “off days”. Leslie comes from a place of humor but with intelligent, compassionate words of advice. She talks about everything, from growing up to developing her own brand, from her start with bareMinerals, her first time on QVC to becoming the mother and style/beauty icon she is today. She gives you a peek inside her life, her journey of turning her passion (makeup) into her now lifelong career, and what advice she received , and lessons she learned along the way. PGA is such a great read, for anyone and everyone. It’s an all inclusive, feel good, get it done, here’s some pretty good advice to better yourself kind of book.

I have so much to say about this book, please bear with me. This book is beautiful with a hardcover, no book sleeve, and a fun array of colored pages inside. It looks beautiful and feels great to hold in your hands. The format of the book is great because it has short stories with an application. I appreciated the easy, uncomplicated setup, and found myself flying through it. Last but definitely not least is the content! There are so many great business lessons included in this book from someone who revolutionized the beauty industry and used online community before it was “the thing” to do. On the other hand, there are great personal insights, too. Despite the short length of each chapter, there is a lot of depth to what Leslie provides. All in all, I highly recommend this book. Just like it’s author, it is smart, genuine, funny, and fun.

Leslie wrote it in such way that you will hear her voice as you read it.    I love how she is funny and most of all how she is so personal, as you read the book you will feel like you really know her.    One of the advices that resonated with me is the one to always pay attention since there may be a miracle hiding in plain sight.    I like how she describes beauty and how she just created a community and was an active part of it.   This book will be he I like that Pretty good advice is so easy to read. Pretty Good Advice...I’m going to say, it’s all pretty awesome advice. Just like it’s author, this book is overflowing with love, laughter and wisdom. This book is easy to read and good for the soul...like a letter from a best girlfriend. I have been following Leslie for many years, since her BE days on QVC and she is such an amazing individual. She is genuine and down to earth, and what I love most...so relatable. I was lucky enough to get my hands on an early copy of Leslie Blodgett's new book PRETTY GOOD ADVICE. So many great tips, not just for young people but for (ahem) more mature readers as well. Her written "voice" sounds just like her real life voice--matter of fact, supportive, candid, confident, and street smart. My only criticism of the book is it should be called EXTREMELY Good Advice.

I've been a fan of Leslie's for several years and had the opportunity to talk with her face-to-face a couple of times. I always admired her style as CEO of Bare Escentuals. She put herself out there and really connected with her customers. Leslie is genuine, warm, funny, honest and compassionate. She is me and you. Her book Pretty Good Advice is a gift in these uncertain times. She gives advice in a very down-to-earth way, it's like listening to a friend. What an enjoyable piece of literature. leslie’s first book is a great way to get her readers involved and thinking back to how she became a household word for many women when it comes to the cosmetic industry. She taught many how to choose, use and enjoy the art of makeup on an everyday basis. She shares what she learned along the way, over the years, and give us a glimpse of what her customers have taught her. She uses stories, life lessons, funny as well as daily life lessons learned. After Leslie’s FB live tonight, I started this book and just finished it. I read it straight through and it spoke to me in so many ways as I knew it would. She touched my heart and my mind and I’m so very grateful for the gift of HER. She aspires, inspires and her generosity of both spirit and tangibles is overwhelming. I have adored her for many years and didn’t think that I could love her more...but I do. Thank you Leslie!

Love I loved this book. It's an easy read with pretty good advice. I watched Leslie on QVC for many years, she was so authentic, she made you feel like a friend and she sold a great product! She is an outside the box thinker and I like that. This book is good, simple life advice.

I am a long time user of Bare Minerals makeup, so this book was an interesting look into the life of Leslie Blodgett. I enjoyed all of the little stories; it’s like sitting down and having a conversation with a good friend. Even though I didn’t always completely agree with the advice, there really was a lot of pretty good advice.

Pretty Good Advice is written with the wit, honesty, and humor that original BareMineral girls have come to know and love Leslie for! The page layout and colors are even enticing you to keep opening this book. I know I will reread Leslie’s advice over again.

Enlightening and fun! I’ve been a Bare Minerals addict for many years, and was a part of the “Leslie’s Angels” group. I purchased the book out of loyalty to Leslie Blogett and her wonderful Bare Minerals product. I didn’t, however, really expect to enjoy it. I thought it would be a dry, serious book on how to build an empire. Instead, it was a lighthearted look at Leslie’s fun personality, and how she used that personality to interact with kindred spirits, and build a business and a life that enr Enlightening and fun! I just found this very shallow and superficial. It was meant to feel good and lighthearted, and it achieved that. It wanted you to feel like Leslie’s friend, I thought, and all the while it kind of felt like a marketing idea to get you to like her therefore you buy bare minerals as that’s how she gets so many sales—through personal connection. Which is well and good and innovative (and I prefer that heart connection marketing rather than dirty tricks like photoshop) but I did read this feeling g I just found this very shallow and superficial. It was very quick, aesthetically pleasing, but ultimately I didn’t leave feeling like I learned much about anything except that Leslie made many sales being the customers friend and she wants you to know she’s so silly and quirky. That ended up being my takeaway. Maybe I’m just a tough critic?? Wouldn’t recommend.
