The story very much based on fact and researched in great detail tells of Judah his parents and brothers and many important people from this era both friends and enemies and unfortunately they had fellow Jews doing the job for them at times. Mind is that not the case for every group in history.

Wonderful book I had heard of the Maccabees but didn’t know very much about the family or their times. This book goes into great detail about the times of the people and the locations. I like the footnotes very much as well as the videos that accompany the story. I would buy more of Amit Arad’s books no matter what he wrote about.

Historical novels such as this give us a more intimate view of life and personal experiences of people who made an impact during this time period. Amit Arad did an outstanding bringing these people to life.

This was an interesting read, as it put flesh on the history of the Maccabee rebellion, and this Book gives an interesting insight to the history of the Jewish nation and Judas Maccabee. I enjoyed this book, but preferred the earlier book The Lions of Jacobee as it gave the background history that I lacked.

As with the first book, this one used terms, phrases and even words that I thought were out of place, or even inappropriate, for the books.
