A delightful cosy mystery with an interesting romantic subplot. I loved the vivid and enchanting setting, the well thought and likeable cast of characters and the engrossing plot. The mystery is solid and it kept me guessing. I assume this is the first in a series and can't wait to read the next instalment. Recommended. Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine. A delightful cosy mystery with an interesting romantic subplot. Oooh this was so good and gossipy... I love me a perfect whodunit. A murder on the set... Actually it was by the cliffside... But close enough. They were shooting for a television series, and the victim was a producer. Molly, who worked alongside the victim was the suspect, so she had to work with her ex, Connor, to find the real murderer. My first book by Kate Johnson, the book was slow going initially, but once the murder occurred nothing could stop me from getting to the murderer. The author's Oooh this was so good and gossipy... My first book by Kate Johnson, the book was slow going initially, but once the murder occurred nothing could stop me from getting to the murderer. The author's writing was friendly and detailed. I got to know about everything that happened in the village. The characters were many, and each gave me a good amount of gossip... You know how these actors and the journalists are, they want to tell me all the happenings on the set and off it too. I loved piecing together all the clues with Molly. Both the main characters made a cute couple, they had gotten together the previous summer for 17 days... I really really wanted to be a fly in the wall to know what went wrong. The entire setting of the book brought out the inner curiosity... I did feel like a journalist wanting to know who was hooking up with whom. Eclectic characters, friendly village, the crew of a television series, two main characters who had broken up, one victim with flies crawling in her blood all made this a fun breakfast read. What more could I ask for?

Molly Higgins lives in an idyllic village in Cornwall, where she works three, sometimes four jobs to make ends meet. Last year, she had a fling with the handsome actor Connor Blackstone, who is in town filming the popular murder mystery show Dr Wenn Investigates. Neither of them expected to come back to Port Trevan this summer and now they're back together they have all these inconvenient feelings for each other, but their shared history makes getting back together quite awkward. Neither of them expected to come back to Port Trevan this summer and now they're back together they have all these inconvenient feelings for each other, but their shared history makes getting back together quite awkward. And then someone on set is murdered. Molly is under suspicion because, frankly, her family are always under suspicion for something or other and she has to solve the mystery, if only to clear her own name. Molly is busy, no-nonsense and sensible. Conor is adorable - a handsome and popular man in love. Port I like Kate Johnson's rom coms and I like cosy crime, so I was looking forward to this. I was not disappointed. The mystery has enough twists and turns to keep me guessing, there's a dash of humour and it touches on social issues like poverty and alcoholism. I like that, whilst Port Trevan is portrayed as beautiful (as Cornwall is), there is a difference in how locals view the place compared to how the outsiders who don't have to live with the poor bus service. The tone, cosy crime with a hint of snark, reminded me a bit of M C Beaton (and her Agatha Raisin books). I read an ARC via Netgalley. I'm very much looking forward to seeing the next instalment of the series.

I enjoyed every minute of this. Mystery and mayhem on the Cornish coast. The mystery twists and turns, and Molly and Conor are a gorgeous couple. Can't wait for the next one. Havi Doc Martin meets Agatha Raisin in Death Comes to Cornwall, Kate Johnson’s quirky, gripping and captivating Cornish set cosy mystery featuring a brilliant new amateur sleuth who is intelligent, kind-hearted and intuitive: Molly Higgins. The first in what promises to be a fantastic new series, Death Comes to Cornwall is an immensely enjoyable read mystery fans will lap up. Molly Higgins might have spent most of her life in Port Trevan, but that seems to be more due to circumstance than choice. Having to daily endure prejudice and disdain from their neighbours who think the Higgins family are always up to something, Molly might work her fingers to the bone doing a multitude of odds jobs to keep a roof over her head and that of her mother and sister, but she is still left frustrated by the lack of kindness she is subjected to by the Port Trevan community. Molly had tried to leave Port Trevan behind for Exeter, but when that hadn’t worked out, she had returned and vowed to make the best of things, even though that had been anything but easy. Still, Molly is prepared to put up with the snarky comments and barbed words from her neighbours if that means saving enough money to open up her own café and staying out of the way of her ex boyfriend, Conor Blackstone which is easier said than done considering he is one of the stars of TV show Doctor Wenn Investigates and Molly works as a runner on the set… Molly and Conor had a red-hot summer fling which didn’t exactly have a Hollywood ending. Forced to work together and with Port Trevan not exactly being a bustling metropolis, Molly and Conor vow to keep each other at arm’s length which proves rather difficult when fate keeps conspiring to push the two of them together! With her younger sister and her mother to worry about – not to mention the fact that money is rather tight – Molly does not have the time nor the inclination for romance – and even if she did, she would certainly never go down that road again and fall for Conor all over again. With him being an up and coming actor whose job takes him all over the world and Molly firmly settled in Port Trevan, a relationship would be out of the question…or would it? Port Trevan might be a small town, but it is certainly big on surprises. Having been born and bred round those parts, Molly thought that she had seen it all – but she has never stumbled upon a dead body before! When producer Georgia’s dead body is found on the cliffs, the police find themselves drawing up a list of suspects with Molly’s name being at the very top! Determined to prove her innocence, Molly finds herself doing some investigating to clear her name – and if she ends up spending a bit more time with Conor, so much the better! Will Molly manage to unmask the identity of Georgia’s killer? Are she and Conor meant to be? Or is their relationship doomed? Whatever the outcome, one thing is certain: life in Port Trevan has suddenly become far more exciting than any TV drama! Kate Johnson adds another feather to her cap with her first – and luckily not the last! – cosy crime novel featuring the fabulous Molly Higgins, Death Comes to Cornwall. Funny, gripping, suspenseful and immensely enjoyable, Death Comes to Cornwall is a brilliantly layered novel that manages to be both an intriguing and nail-biting mystery and a page-turning, witty and warm-hearted romance as Molly and Conor finding themselves falling for one another all over again. Brilliantly paced, wonderfully atmospheric, funny, tense and impossible to put down, Death Comes to Cornwall is a must-read for cosy crime fans everywhere who need to add Kate Johnson’s Molly Higgins series to the top of their auto-buy list.

After reading the first few chapters of this book I thought it was going to be too much - you dumped me - no you dumped me - and the couple were just going to make gooey eyes at one another and be boring. Don't fall for that, just when you think that's it, things open up and it becomes an interesting murder mystery. The really good bad boy film 'star' and the no-good family in the village - well one member of it - together try to sort out a murder, and some sexual assaults too. A very good read. This is a very enjoyable read, gallops along at a cracking pace, is full of great characters, and is really well written, I'd definitely recommend it. Molly Higgins is a nicely feisty, slightly damaged Cornish heroine and Conor Blackstone is not just swoonworthy but also - gasp! a nice fella. There's all sorts of secrets and lies on the set of the popular 'Doctor Wenn' TV series, and then there's a murder. Top stuff. An amusing read. Initially I wasn't sure about this. Lots of cheeky links to Doc Martin made me expect to be disappointed. However, it kept me interested and able to ignore all outside interruptions, of which there were many! Very quickly absorbed by the setting, which I know first hand, the characters, who were not entirely unappealing :) and the unfolding of family secrets, love and, of course, murder. Not to be taken seriously, this is a comfortable, quick read that should make you sigh with satis An amusing read. Initially I wasn't sure about this. Being from Cornwall myself, often reading about books set here there is always there inner groan that something isn’t quite right. Not here it has been pulled off to perfection the careful balance of geography and social dimensions with the characterisations of locals and those who visit. A must for everyone I definitely recommend this as a read!
