Didn't really like the art that much on this one but the story was fun and engaging and it was nice to have some higher stakes after the previous volume. It looks like there was some trouble publishing the next volume and that it's not available digitally, which leaves me a bit confused about what I should do moving forward. Guess I'll just randomly own volume 9 of a series? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Didn't really like the art that much on this one but the story was fun and engaging and it was nice to have some higher stakes after the previous volume. Plot felt a bit repetitive but it was nice to see the result and impact of the crews’ dates. And I’m glad that the crew finally realized how unprepared some of them were for their kind of sailing life! Only took 8 volumes for that realization...not any of their other brushes with death.

Coyer Winter Read With Friends Ravens crew is rested and now have a new lead on their adversary when disaster strikes. A lack of wind keeps the crew stalled for days and tempers rise. Then an unexpected attack destroys their shop and separates the crew. What I loved so much about this volume is the realism of the female characters. The story never devolves into stereotypical representations of the women. Even when they are at their worst they have a level of respect for each other. They changed the artist, and it looks lazy. Like a young artist doing fanart - the idea of the characters are clear, but the execution is sloppy at times. This impacted on my enjoyment of the plot, which was a little predictable? I'm hoping that this volume is a one-off and the standard is back for volume 9. They changed the artist, and it looks lazy. Raven and her crew's adventures continue in Vol. 8 of the Raven The Pirate Princess Princeless spinoff series. While date night was sweet for everyone, bad weather and angry mermaids wreck havoc on the crew, the ship, and their relationships. *actual rating is 3.5 stars* This was still enjoyable, just not as good as some of the previous volumes.

After date night, they head out to find Raven's brother but get caught in doldrums. A dip in the ocean leads to a fight with mermaids. The women are then split up and have to deal with their relationships in less than ideal circumstances. So, if date night was "good times", these are the "bad times".
