Miss Maryann Fitzwilliam is too witty and bookish for her own good. No gentleman of the ton will marry her, so her parents arrange for her to wed a man old enough to be her father. But Maryann is ready to use those wits to turn herself into a sinful wallflower. When the scandal sheet reports a sighting of Nicolas St. Ives, the Marquess of Rothbury, climbing out the chamber Miss Maryann Fitzwilliam is too witty and bookish for her own good. No gentleman of the ton will marry her, so her parents arrange for her to wed a man old enough to be her father. But Maryann is ready to use those wits to turn herself into a sinful wallflower. When the scandal sheet reports a sighting of Nicolas St. Ives, the Marquess of Rothbury, climbing out the chamber windows of a house party, Maryann does the unthinkable. She anonymously claims that the bedchamber belonged to none other than Miss Fitzwilliam, tarnishing her own reputation—and chances of the dastardly union her family secured for her. Now she just needs to convince the marquess to keep his silence. Turns out Nicolas allows for the scandal to perpetuate for his own reasons… But when Maryann’s parents hold fast to their arranged marriage plan, it’ll take a scandal of epic proportions for these two to get out of this together.

I am so excited for you guys to read Her Wicked Marquess. Maryann and Nicolas's journey to happy ever after is one of my favorite stories, if not the fave. I loved writing it and I hope you guys feel that love and enjoy it as much as I do. P.S. This was my first time trying a book by Stacy Reid, and I absolutely loved it! Her Wicked Marquess is a slow burn, steamy historical with a smart heroine, a layered hero, a good dose of angst, and a lot to say about power dynamics, sexual assault, rape culture, and the marginalized. This is the sort of book that can be read on multiple levels and I found it to be equally stirring romance against all odds and powerful commentary on the treatment of women's bodies (especially marginalized women) a This was my first time trying a book by Stacy Reid, and I absolutely loved it! Her Wicked Marquess is a slow burn, steamy historical with a smart heroine, a layered hero, a good dose of angst, and a lot to say about power dynamics, sexual assault, rape culture, and the marginalized. This is the sort of book that can be read on multiple levels and I found it to be equally stirring romance against all odds and powerful commentary on the treatment of women's bodies (especially marginalized women) and the insidious nature of male privilege. Maryann is a bookish wallflower nearing spinsterhood with too many opinions for the men of the ton. She is now being pushed into an arranged marriage with a man who is not only twice her age, but also has unsettling proclivities. Nicholas is a notorious rake, known for seducing ladies and partying. But underneath the surface, he is playing the long game seeking vigilante justice for a woman he loved who was raped by a group of high-born men before committing suicide. Maryann hopes the appearance of ruination will aid her in escaping from this marriage and the Marquess seems the perfect candidate to aid in her plans. This book gets quite intense as you might expect, but I really loved it. It's smart and powerful, not to mention I loved the developing romance with a broken hero who isn't sure he's worthy of love. I expected to enjoy this, but I didn't expect to be so impressed with what Stacy Reid is doing here. Highly recommend if those themes appeal to you and I hope to read more from this author in the future. I received a copy of this book for review. All opinions are my own.

Stacy Reid is a favorite author of mine but I'm still unsure on how I feel about Her Wicked Marquess. My attention was not held and the story did not seem to really get going until the 40% mark. I also thought this was an odd follow up to My Darling Duke, it was much darker and didn't seem to quite fit in with what I thought this series would be like. The heroine was underdeveloped and inconsistent, it made it difficult for me to get connect with her. Maryann fell flat. Nicolas, on the other hand was perfect, his pursuit of Maryann and conviction to bring justice to those who wrong a previous love was written flawlessly. The sex scenes in this were HOT! While not a complete disappointment it is far from a favorite or reread. Just a minor complaint, I hate when a cover does not match the author's description of a character: The cover model is blonde however in the book "His raven hair was impeccably styled, curling softly at his nape." 3.5 stars I was borderline obsessed with the previous book in this series and it sort of breaks my heart to rate this one so low. I love love loved Maryann and Nicolas. She’s feisty and smart and he’s charming and maybe a bit lost. Together they have loads of chemistry, curiosity, and cute moments. There were a good amount of characters here, but everyone stays on the superficial side. I will say I was hoping for a Kitty cameo, but it didn’t happen. Plot wise, it was good and not so good for me. 3.5 stars I was borderline obsessed with the previous book in this series and it sort of breaks my heart to rate this one so low. I loved that he snuck into her room for conversation and chess and that he taught her to pick locks. The honesty between them was refreshing and Nicolas losing his mind over Maryann’s protection was perfection. My main problem with this book is that Nicolas is on a journey of revenge (which I’m absolutely here for) on behalf of a childhood friend who was gang raped and abused. The acts were not described in detail, but constantly mentioned in flashbacks, inner monologues, and conversation and it took a lot of enjoyment away for me. Overall, it was the characters who kept me captivated and a love for Stacy Reid that kept me reading. However, had I known it focused so heavily on this topic, I’m not sure I would have requested it. FYI: talks of rape, physical violence against women **Huge thanks to Entangled for providing the arc free of charge**

But, with his investigation and vengeance on the line, what will be more important: the vendetta or the vixen? This is the second book in the Sinful Wallflowers series. There are brief mentions of the heroine from book one, and a set up for book three's couple, but this book can stand alone. There is a lot of set up going on at the beginning of this story, and I had to focus perhaps a bit more than I wanted to in order to keep the details straight. However, once Nicholas and Maryann continued to circle each other, I was hooked by their flirtations. I love that Nicholas is somewhat of a dark, powerful figure, and he's unexpectedly undone by a strong-willed wallflower. Maryann is different than other woman he has encountered, and I liked how their chance pairing became friendship and then romance. The author's steamy scenes are always a treat, too! I also really appreciated that there were some twists in Nicholas's investigation. I wasn't expecting the outcome, and I always respect when an author can surprise me! 4.5 stars rounded to 5. Almost 5⭐ This book was awesome. I am always a little frustrated with Stacy Reid when she says lady when it is miss and vice versa... but putting that aside, this book was super. I absolutely loved all of the couple interactions, the way they slowly fell in love with each other, their conversations, their honesty, the revenge plot, and so on. It was a bit of a shock the reasons behind his revenge, I cannot imagine what his fisr love have suffered.

She was smart, witty, and loved him with her whole heart. But she was supposed to marry another. I love the way Reid tells the story. This is no ordinary historical romance. It’s an intimate connection that is on fire. Starting with a slow burn, she builds up the heat, page by page. The emotion packs a punch and several times my eyes were misty and my heart was breaking too. This is more than a romance novel. This is a love story that gives you all the feels right along with the characters. The highs and the lows leading to an amazing climax to the story that catches you completely off guard. And the ending is simply perfect. It still makes me smile just thinking about it. The story was more than I was hoping for and the author absolutely gave it her all. This book isn’t just for historical romance readers. It’s for anyone that loves a true love story. Reid is a masterful storyteller who just shouldn’t be missed! * copy received for review consideration Full Review - https://amidlifewife.com/her-wicked-m...

4.5 Hot and Heavy stars! I shall rename this as the Eagle & Racoon love story. If you know, you know. Anyhow, I didn't expect the dark stuffs, angsty stuffs. That threw me off and made me sad for everyone in this book (well, except for the bad guys of course). The theme of this book is definitely how far you would go for revenge. I really love the heroine. She was perfect for the man that Nicolas was. They both complemented each other very well. Those late night visits? *Chef's kiss* All in all, de 4.5 Hot and Heavy stars! I have read 410 books this year. Seven of those were Stacy Reid’s. I wish they all would have been hers. I just love her writing. She is one of my favorite authors. I loved this book. It is one of my favorites by her. I couldn’t put it down. The characters, Maryann and Nicolas were amazing. I feel like I’m in the room with them when Stacy writes her scenes. She is also on my favorite authors on writing sex scenes. They are so good and very sexy. I would give this book WAY more stars if I could.

It was heartbreaking, intense, and how it ended very satisfying. A really good read and brilliant addition to the series. I am already desperate for the next book. I hope we get ALL of the Wallflower's love stories.

If you love historical romance, then you definitely need to add this one to your tbr! She stepped back, and his finger slipped from her chin. Thank heavens. His touch felt… like strokes of flames over her skin, yet it also felt right. It might take her the rest of her life to figure out why she would ever think such a silly thing. It was the most fabulous of meet cutes. And from there, the games they played with one another was beyond addicting. Maryann needed to use Nicolas' name to get out of an engagement. But what she didn't realize was that by doing so, she linked their fates together. And once Nicolas truly saw Maryann, there was no walking away from her. With a woman wanting the freedom to love who she desired and a man set on a path of revenge and redemption, I couldn't put this book down! “I thought you were a blazing star that no gentleman has any notion what to do with.” “Yes, the buffoons,” she murmured, startled at how provocative she sounded. That finger gently trailed from her nose down to rest against her lips. “I know what to do with every inch of you, Lady Maryann.” I loved Lady Maryann Eleanor Fitzwilliam! She was smart, witty and had no problem using her voice. I loved how she was diplomatic but also willing to take risks, I was mesmerized with how her mind worked! She was to be married to a man who was her father's age, and I felt her suffocation for not having control over her own life. So when she came up with the most fabulous of plans, I was clapping my hands! I loved that she wanted to ruin her name, so her intended wouldn't want her anymore. And that's where Nicolas Charles St. Ives, Marquess of Rothbury, came into the picture. His kiss destroyed her. It was unexpected, it was so soft, it was unbelievably tender, and scandalously perfect, for it was just a mere meeting of their mouths, but it felt like everything. I was obsessed with Nicolas, he was protective, defended others honor and laid his cards on the table for those he cared about. There was a complexity and darkness to him that enamored me. So as we were given clues to his past, and witnessed how it affected his present, he easily captivated me. But in the beginning, I loved seeing his reaction to Maryann spinning her lies about the two of them. It was all so hilarious! He couldn't help but be intrigued by her and I loved how he saw the truths of what was going on around him. The man was wickedly smart as he was seductive. And when he set his sights on something, he went for it. Kiss me , she silently implored. When he made no move, it was her turn to lean in and bite his lower lip. The raindrops on his mouth settled onto her tongue, and with it a taste of dark fire and whiskey. When Nicolas and Maryann were together, their antics were entertaining, and the sexual tension between them was scorching hot. It was impossible not to be giddy when they were near each other. Especially since neither of them was what the other expected. And it added to the depth of them getting to know each other. As we got further into the story, the descriptive scenes were sinfully seductive *fans face*. He wanted her, more than he’d ever wanted another soul. Her Wicked Marquees was exquisitely seductive and laugh out loud hilarious. From the main characters that I loved with all my heart, to the story that was rich and vivid, to the well-crafted side characters, I loved this book! And even that ending, it was absolutely perfect! The epilogue had such a beautiful HEA, and even included two other characters which made my heart so happy! I probably highlighted over half of this book, that's how obsessed I was lol. Now I can't wait to read more from Stacy Reid! *I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book, provided by the publisher. My goodness, I have said it again but I will be preaching it to the anyone willing to listen. Stacy Reid can write chemistry and she can write her smut. She has a way of making her romances, centric on the characters and learning of them without it feeling overdone or repetitive. She has a unique way of approaching the story that allows enough of a build up before further bringing you into the story. Plus the development feels real. The circling of our characters with one another is pure entertainment I could read for hours, which I did, and cannot wait to reread time and time again!! I cannot express how much I enjoyed this story! Truly cannot wait for not only more in this companion series but more from Stacy Reid herself. Was sent a copy in exchange for an honest review

In order to get out of the engagement, Maryann spreads a rumor that the rakish Nicholas Ives, Marquess of Rothbury snuck into her bedroom and "took liberties". Maryann knew it would make her damaged goods and the Earl wouldn't want her with her reputation in ruins. What she didn't count on was getting entangled in the revenge plots that Nicholas had set into motion. Now all of the enemies of the Marquess can go after Maryann, and Nicholas won't let that happen. Nicholas decides to offer Maryann protection via marriage, but it is also clear Nicholas is attracted to Maryann's spirit. From the beginning, Maryann showed she wasn't a wallflower nor a scared debutante. She was resourceful and had very witty banter with Nicholas. They had chemistry and both had a sense of justice for others. I love that Maryann wasn't the typical ton female, she had intelligence, inner fortitude and loyalty, the same qualities Nicholas possessed too. While they started off as a fake relationship, their attraction couldn't be denied. Stacy Reid's writing was entertaining, suspenseful and romantic. I was engaged from the beginning to the end. I will say that this book was a lot heavier than I expected. The revenge mission that Nicholas was a part of contained some issues that may trigger some readers. So I hope readers pay attention to the precis before reading. I look forward to the next book in this series as there is definitely more characters to explore. Wow! This was a wonderful read!!! Maryann had me cheering for her within a few pages. For the era, she’s fighting for the chance to be free. She was quite feisty and I loved how she enthralled Nicolas from the beginning due to her quirky ways. Nicolas was one of the most alpha heroes I’ve read in awhile, and that’s comparing him to contemporary romances as well. Put him in a mafia romance and holy heck, he’d set the standard for a new type of hero. He had a steadfastness to him that had me lingering on every action he took and words he spoke in regards to Maryann. As the relationship between them grew his protectiveness of her grew exponentially. Nicolas had me swooning, and I don’t swoon easily. While this has a great rhythm and pace to the story, the relationship slowly evolves giving these characters a chance to truly get to know one another and thereby fall in love in a believable manner. The initial steam is light but it continues to grow as the story develops. When the slow burn finally comes to its ultimate conclusion, the ending result was an inferno of passion. This has several plot lines running through it with plenty of drama and a bit of angst. I was engaged from the first page as this author pulled me into the story and had me experiencing the highs and lows with Maryann and Nicolas. I laughed, gasped, cursed, and cried throughout the book before I closed it with a huge smile, delighted in an epilogue that gave me everything I needed. She daringly claims the bedchamber in question was her own and counts on the gossipmongers to cast shadows onto her reputation in the hopes that her parents' choice of groom will cry off. She just has to make sure the marquess doesn't give her ruse away. I wound up enjoying this but it did take awhile for me to get that point. For the first half or more, Maryann just frustrated me, especially when she kept making excuses for her parents' awful and hypocritical behavior towards her. I was also not expecting the revenge plotline and that definitely threw me off a bit. I loved the ending and its revelations, but I can't say more for fear of spoilers. I will say I liked the clandestine nature of the courtship between Nicholas and Maryann. Him sneaking into her rooms was quite romantic and allowed them to get to know each other on a deeper level, which made it believable that they fell in love fairly quickly. I did find the ending to be a bit abrupt and there were a lot of errors with titles and wrong words, even for an ARC, but hopefully these are fixed in the final copy. Overall, the storyline was original and the ending satisfying. I liked this much better than its predecessor and will look forward to the next book in the series. Her Wicked Marquess was phenomenal! It was exciting to read with all the twists and turns and I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. I loved the drama, wit, passion, and intensity! She's bold, bright, and fearless. Nicholas is quite devilish and not at all what he shows the world. He's smart and methodical, and definitely a man on a mission. I loved learning about them, their motives, and their plots. I was completely fascinated by Nicholas' need for revenge and all the layers involved, it felt very cloak-and-dagger at times. I loved how he and Maryann met and the tension and intrigue between them. I loved their push and pull, their clever dialogue and verbal sparring. These two could be playful and teasing and it made for a lot of fun. It’s like they had a passionate game of cat and mouse happening. The build to them coming together was amazing and I hung on every word. I was filled with so much anticipation for them to get together. When sparks start to fly, it's intimate, raw, and real. I couldn't stop reading because I needed answers and was excited about what was going to happen next. There were so many I-didn't-see-that-coming moments, it was awesome. I loved the different aspects happening, Maryann battling for her independence, Nicholas’ need for revenge, and them together and how it all connected. I love the layers, development, and the build to all of Nicholas's secrets as well. It was fantastic when everything came together. The writing was wonderful, descriptive with great details. I thought this was incredibly entertaining and witty with the perfect mix of emotion and heat blended in. I loved Nicholas sharing, trusting, opening his heart, and moving forward. And that ending! The intensity of it, the drama and action, it was gripping. From beginning to end, this story consumed me and I couldn’t put it down! Complimentary copy received from Entangled Publishing.

Knowing that her parents want her to marry an abhorrent earl, a friend of the family who is old enough to be her father, she orchestrates for herself to be spoken about in all the scandal sheets, linked with the renowned rake Nicholas Ives, Marquess of Rothbury. However, being linked to him has brought more than just gossip on her heels. Nicholas is embroiled in a plot that's been ten years in the making, and his enemies would do anything to find a weakness, and it's so obvious that Maryann is his biggest weakness yet. As Nicholas gets closer to achieving vengeance, will he be able to control his heart, or has Maryann stolen her wicked marquess? As soon as I had finished My Darling Duke, I knew I needed more from this series. I had expected this book to be Charlotte's story, but Maryann was wonderful and I fell in love with her. She is a wallflower, and has never really been bothered by it in the past, but as soon as it's apparent she will be forced to marry that disgusting Earl Stamford, who has no qualms in sleeping with a servant when she's in the room, and takes pleasure in her disgust and fear, she needs to do anything she can to stop the match. But even after she starts the rumour that Nicholas was caught sneaking out of her room, her parents will not relent, and try and squash the rumours themselves, doubling down on the match. However, once Nicholas hears of the gossip, he can't stay away from the surprisingly enticing Maryann, and actually sneaks into her room, night after night, and an unlikely friendship is formed. I honestly felt like their affection for each other, not only based in lust, but in actually enjoyment of being together, was phenomenal, and made the angst towards the end of the story even more heart wrenching. One thing that may discount from the enjoyment of this story, for some, was the revenge plot that Nicholas was on. In his youth, he had been friends with the daughter of one of his servants, and she was brutally attacked and raped by a gang of 'gentleman', the sons of powerful men, and killed herself after leaving a letter with clues to the culprits. Though nothing was actually seen on page, there were many flashbacks to Ariana's letter, and it could be triggering. I appreciated this part being in the story, to explain Nicholas' back story, and why he was so engrossed in his revenge, and his need to protect Maryann. All in all, I really enjoyed this instalment, and though we didn't see anything of Kitty, I hope that the next book see's more cameos from previous characters.

Nicolas, our hero Rothbury, has been on a decade-long vengeance journey to bring down a group of lords who raped his childhood friend, causing her to kill herself. So... trigger warning for that story line, as it is a major plot point and discussed often. By linking herself to Rothbury, Maryanne has caught the attention of Nicolas, and his enemies. Nicolas is drawn to the smart and decidedly adventurous Maryann, but he can't risk his plans of vengeance or her safety for love. Or can he? 😂 Now, on to my feelings: I loved the dynamic of this couple. Maryann was very open and forthright in her feelings and never afraid or ashamed about it. And Nicolas was her perfect match, helping and supporting her at every turn. But, it took them awhile to get there. The first half of the book lays a lot of groundwork for the mysterious vengeance plot, and pieces are revealed a bit at a time. Once the pieces start falling in place, the story picks up, but the first half was a lot of plot details and not as much relationship development. Personally, I don't gravitate towards mysteries, so the first bit was a struggle for me. Also, this story was full of unsavory characters and terrible family, so the tone was darker than the first book in the series in that regard. But, I'm a sucker for heros that are ALL IN emotionally for their partner, and Nicolas checked that box for me. He was intense but not overbearing. All in all, a different feeling book than the first in the series (which is on my favorites list!), but I would still recommend this as another great read by one of my favorite authors.

Nicholas has accounted for every contingency…except Maryann Fitzwilliam. The clever and outspoken wallflower seems to be using his name to start a scandal in order to avoid marriage to a horrible man. From the first Maryann and Nicholas are drawn together. But between her unwanted fiancé’s determination to possess her and Nicholas’s quest for revenge, there’s no way the two of them can be together…is there? Stacy Reid mixes the dark and the light beautifully in Her Wicked Marquess . Nicholas and Maryann charmed me from the start and that charm never faded. I loved the sparks that flew between them instantaneously. The (seeming) rake and the spirited wallflower? That kind of pairing is catnip to me. What I loved most about their relationship is that Reid gave it space to grow and develop. I adored watching them become friends before they fell in love. Nicholas would never be one to cage Maryann; he encourages her to be who she really is, even though society would turn their noses up at the pair of them if they could. Their secret nighttime encounters brought a smile to my face and I adored their teasing banter. The sexual tension that simmers underneath it all is delicious and I enjoyed watching them lose the battle to resist one another. Nicholas and Maryann see one another for who they really are and Reid crafts their love story so wonderfully that you can feel how good a match they are down to your bones. There’s no false drama in Maryann and Nicholas’s relationship, which I really appreciated. The obstacles are in the form of Maryann’s detestable suitor and the revenge plot. I won’t say how either plotline plays out but the former made me shudder in parts and the latter broke my heart. Nicholas is caged to the past because he failed someone he loved. Reid makes his need for vengeance and the guilt he carries understandable, which is why him trying to hold himself back even as he falls in love with Maryann is a believable obstacle. Though no depictions of sexual assault are portrayed on the page, they are discussed so I want to provide a trigger warning in case it’s needed. It’s a hard balance to have heavy topics such as this mixed with humor and light, but Reid does both perfectly while giving the more serious storyline the respect it deserves. Her Wicked Marquess is the second book in the Sinful Wallflowers series but it can easily be read as a standalone. I did enjoy the meetings between Maryann and her friends and found myself particularly intrigued by Ophelia, who I desperately hope is next in line for her happily ever after. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed Maryann and Nicholas’s story. Stacy Reid’s love stories always sweep me away and Her Wicked Marquess is no exception. FTC Disclosure: I received this book for free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Her plan is simple, she will wait until Sophie comes close to a window in the ballroom and then will have Crispin dump a bucket of grass snakes on her and watch her humiliate herself. But it isn’t Crispin who comes to her aid, a fact she doesn’t learn until after the deed is done. She is horrified and runs away – but soon discovers who her “helper” was – none other than the notorious libertine, Nicolas St. Ives, the Marquess of Rothbury. Nicolas had his own reasons for being at the ball and for intercepting Crispin. Maryann was never part of his plan, but after meeting her, he is intrigued by her and can’t seem to stop thinking about her. Especially once he learns she plans to use him to ruin her – or at least imply that he ruined her to get out of an arranged marriage. When he overhears her spreading a rumor that he snuck into her room and stole a kiss – he can’t let that slide and proceeds to do just what she accused him of. But at much as he is captivated by her, he can’t afford to get tangled up with her – at least not until he carries out his plans for revenge on those who hurt someone he loved and cause her to kill herself. He has been setting up his revenge for years and tracking down all the men who were involved in Arianna’s downfall and ultimately her death. He is not positive, but thinks that Maryann’s brother was involved, so that is even more reason for him to stay away – but he just can’t. And as he spends time with her, and begins to fall for her, he knows he will have to make a choice – love or honoring his vow to Arianna’s memory. This was not a light read and based on the blurb, I was not prepared for a book that was in essence a revenge story – which is not a trope I enjoy. I felt like the book had the potential to be fabulous, but the revenge, inconsistencies, the title errors, and the odd raccoon references (I totally agree with another reviewer who noted this – there were no raccoons in England, so why use them??) – however, the twist at the end of the book was outstanding and the love scenes were smokin’ hot – so the book was not a total miss for me. Overall, the book was not my favorite by this author and it did drag a bit in the middle – but the ending did go a long way into making up for that and as this was an uncorrected arc, I am going to assume inconsistencies and title errors will be corrected before publication (hopefully), so would recommend that you judge for this book for yourself. This is the second book in this series, but they are very loosely connected and are definitely able to be read as stand-alone titles. *I am voluntarily leaving a review for an eARC that I requested and was provided to me by NetGalley and the publisher. *

Ever since then Nicolas has been hunting these men one by one while at the same time feeling guilt and regret for not being there when his friend was attacked. One night he crashes into the home of one of the suspects when he meets his sister, Maryann. Maryann is a wallflower and a bluestocking. No man of the ton looks at her twice for she is smart, outspoken, direct, honest and well read. She makes them uncomfortable. Nicolas never had any interest in her as he was blinded by his hatred. Not only that he has built a fame around his person that he is the wildest rogue in town, to associate with any woman would mean ruination for her. Yet Maryann uses his fame to make up a rumor that she’s been ruined by him so her appointed fiancée will break the betrothal and her parents will have to send her to the country where she will be able to live her life as a spinster and be happy ever after. That very night Nicolas breaks into her bedchamber just to make the rumor true or so he made her believe, and they become friends. The rumor doesn’t work the way she wanted so… they plot to make things even harder for the ton to look the other way and in the meantime, Nicolas investigates his suspects, threatens them, and falls in love with someone who brings light to a life of darkness. I think I would have enjoyed the book so much more without the “Is there forgiveness for them?” dilemma that is thrown into the book. For Stacy Reid there is no forgiveness, that much is clear, but she raises the question anyway. Having one character redeeming himself might lead to think she condones it and I’m afraid there will be readers who will not understand the actual circumstances for the redemption. I can’t give away details but there’s that. Honestly it was the romance which I enjoyed the most, not the revenge plot or the fake rake trope. The romance is so beautiful. They are enemies for a second but then they fall in to such a ridiculous and funny fight that they become very good friends. They see each other for who they really are and not for the disguise they present to others, even family. They understand and support each other. Nicolas is very protective of Maryann but he also sees her fierceness and braveness. And Maryann is so understanding of his situation while at the same time she hurts for him, for the bitterness and the painful regret that she sees in his eyes. They meet when they most needed to be understood and comforted, they have fun together, they dream together… and they live happily ever after because they deserve that, more than anyone else. The best thing is that I calculate that it all happens in a matter of weeks, but the pace set by Stacy Reid is slow and quiet, taking her time to uncover all the plot and the subplots… that if feels like a slow burn romance. And also because they become friends before becoming lovers and the process feels so natural that it’s heartwarming.

THIS BOOK! STACY REID IS A GEM! I had such high hopes for this book because I loved My Darling Duke sooooo much and it didn't disappoint. AT ALL! Maryann and Nicolas' first meeting is definitely one of my all time favorites. They had me from the get go. Between sparring in bedchambers, shocking the ton, and watching them fall in love. I was a ball of goo. They fill me with so much joy. And the freaking end had my heart pounding!! This was a great blend of swoon, angst, plot, and steam. instagram TW: THIS BOOK! STACY REID IS A GEM! This book had great potential. And it was still exciting in many ways. This one had quite the revenge plot, and it was a bit over done at times. It was very spicy though and I had a good time with the audiobook. Nicolas is pretty naughty and I had a great time with him and Maryann. Could have been worse but not a great as the first one.
