While I have long been a fan of Paul Newman's movies, I knew very little about his personal life. I found this short biography very informative, from his early years in Ohio, to his time in serving in the Navy during World War II, to his early acting efforts. I had no idea he was married to someone else before Joanne Woodward. I found it interesting that he crossed paths professionally with James Dean more than once. I found it very interesting that Newman was a lifelong Democrat, marching with Martin Luther King. Newman gave all the income from his food business to charity. I found this book well worth the read.

This is a fine overview of an icon's life: Paul Newman. I admire the fact that Newman quit on a high note. He accepted the fact that he was an older man and that it was time to hang up his boots. He left a body of work that any actor would be proud of; his performances stand up well. He also realized that he had an obligation to use his fame for a greater good. Thus, he created a food company and it still provides funds for worthy projects worldwide.

The Hudson Hornet And Other Iconic Characters This is a great read for information about Paul Newman. I first saw Mr. Newman in Cool Hand Luke and have watched all his movies since. He was a great actor, activist, businessman and race car driver. I kick myself for forgetting that he portrayed my son's other favorite character The Hudson Hornet in Cars. I would laugh when my children would say, "You can sell salad dressing then play a character in a Pixar movie"
