Stop what you are doing and read this series! Being Southern, I'm always looking for Southern writers to champion. Susan Gabriel captured a tantalising slice of low-country life with this amazing series. I read both novels in 2 days. I truly could not put them down. These are the types of novels you know you will revisit often. I can't wait to read more of her works. Stop what you are doing and read this series! Temple Secrets and Gullah Secrets These were the best 2 books I have read in a while. I am so invested in the Temple descendants and hope to read a third one in the future. The characters are beautifully described and the emotions they feel are so poignantly written that I felt every emotion. How the Temple slaves and their white families intertwine oVer time is written beautifully. I hope Susan Gabriel will write one more book of these families to find out how life goes on without Old Sally. A fine pair of books I have read better written books that's why it didn't get 5 stars. This is just a good story with good characters. It's a little wordy - feeling like the author stretched it to fill more pages. Overall it was good. My book club chose both Temple Secrets and Gullah Secrets, based on the blurb I would not have chosen them. The books did give my book club lots to talk about. I was so drawn in by the mysteries of this family tree and the quirky characters. The secrets are fun when revealed! Book one you fall in love with Queenie, Violet and Rose and book two Old Sally Gullah woman steals the show and you can’t put this book down! Weather crisis, weddings, Gullah spells and dishonest relatives all play into this story. Love the writing so I can’t wait to try more by this author.

Southern Family Secrets Family secrets run very deep in the Temple family. Bloodlines cris cross through generations in this series. Savanna and the surrounding low country make a beautiful setting.
