A shifter, three sexy mages, and an Elemental with magic thought to be extinct… what could possibly go wrong? I was born the day my parents died—talk about luck. But honestly this was 30% powers, 50% boys and 20% information. There was no chemistry between the characters even tho eventually they all got together out of nowhere. It wasn't bad, it seemed rushed but it doesn't give that anger that comes when you read a really bad book. It has potential if taken a bit more care of. Hopefully the second book is going to be better. So this was... something. I was really curious about the powers and the mc being a vox. Oh the masterpiece it could have been. The minute I read the synopsis I was so freaking excited. When you have read as many Paranormal and fantasy books as I have there really aren't many concepts that would surprise and excite you (I once read 200+ ebooks during my 5th semester summer break. And Yes I was counting). The book started out great, the mystery of the FMC and her powers were so intriguing. The fi I had so many expectations. Why God Why??!! I have never been so disappointed in a book. The first fight that propelled her into the world of magic gave me something to look forward to. And then the book devolved into a stupid f*ckfest. Literally. I was impressed by the fact that the FMC felt bad about accidentally killing someone even in self defense (I have read books in the same genre where even if the MCs kill for the first time they are completely unaffected). What I couldn't digest was the fact that seeing how it was very clearly told that the FMC didn't know about the magic world and had a very human upbringing, so her getting into a poly-amorous relationship didn't strike to her as weird. Like seriously. In the human world that's called "cheating" and not "being casual". Like that didn't even register on her moral compass. Also, the guy she was seriously dating Sasha was apparently engaged to someone else (who he had been in a relationship for years on and off) and she got upset cause clearly that's cheating and her frequent booty calls with the other mage Raff isn't (she got offended saying that he lied to her. she didn't tell him about the other guy she was screwing. That's lying by omission). Another thing that irked me was the fact that the werewolf was okay with sharing his mate. If you have read any werewolf romance you would know werewolf mating is sacred, they are possessive and the only time they share is if the girl has more than one mates. Nothing was specified about the mating so I don't know maybe that's not the case here. And this whole storyline made me realize that I had come here for a powerful, badass and most importantly self respecting heroine and a really nice paranormal mystery. Instead I got a freaking soap opera with the FMC fawning over every guy she met and then immediately screwing him. (I know it's a reverse harem but c'mon, atleast have some chemistry). I won't be continuing this series that's for sure. I hope the author has other series that I could read cause the writing was pretty good regardless of the story.

2.5-3 stars. Honestly this was a pretty enjoyable fast read. The reason for my star power here has more to do with the fact that though i finished it just a couple days ago... I'm having trouble even remembering the ending lol. I will say that the whole Vox (Voice) Elemental had a unique flair but I feel like the whole supernatural world itself was sort of glossed over, more like a whole wham, bam, thank you ma'am intro. I'm still on the fence about Whitt.. not sure yet what is going on there. Most of the guys seem ok. Jamey is my favorite but in all honesty I still feel like we barely even know any of these people. Not sure if I'm all that involved yet. I do feel like the "villian('s)" here were mere child's play in the grand scheme of things. Its crazy that the book has ended after just one small challenge. I'm on the fence when it comes whether to continue this series. It could go either way at this point. We will just have to see.

Entertaining for the most part. This was a quick fun read that had some interesting characters, and a decent magic system (well, from what little I’ve seen so far). Only frustrating elements were: 1) that although Natalie started strong, she abruptly fades out. What good is an antagonist with a good reason for a grudge if they aren’t utilized? 2) that there is no build up towards Ava building her harem. She jumps into bed with the first guy quick enough, and I’d wished for a bit more will they/won’t Entertaining for the most part. The setting worked well, and they characters find themselves at numerous locations on campus and not just the usual dorm, classroom, cafeteria combo. Left on a bit of a cliffhanger, but not one that’s going to drive you nuts... at least I don’t think so, anyway 🙂 3 stars ⭐️

Oh my, I just love reading about Ava and her very interesting adventure. Ava finding out she has magic but not just any magic all the different types of elemental magic. And the fact that she learns that she could possibly have a chance to succeed with her elemental magic. The other characters were just as well thought of as Ava is. I cant wait to read more. Hidden Power is short length book in a typical academy style setting that stays very shallow to truly feel anything and finishes off rather soon. I picked up this book for the somewhat novelty aspect of vox powers, it's not that greatly utilised. Just one training scene and the climax fight scene, both which felt brief to actually feel any impact. Even this elemental magic doesn't play a badass role to bring liveliness to the scenes, most of the times I felt this immersive magical essence missing Hidden Power is short length book in a typical academy style setting that stays very shallow to truly feel anything and finishes off rather soon. Even this elemental magic doesn't play a badass role to bring liveliness to the scenes, most of the times I felt this immersive magical essence missing. The lack of world building could be attributed for that. I mean there is barely anything just to get a gist of this supernatural world but not enough to add some weight to this academy location. The FMC doesn't have much of a memorable personality, just a reactionary character for the plot elements. The guys were the weakest. There is barely any details to any of the three dudes that insta connect with her, not to mention a fourth one coming in towards the end. Their interactions with Ava are bland. Her hook up with Raff is too soon with no content to show anything beyond the lusting at first meet. Seriously, I couldn't feel any chemistry with any of the guys without any fucking substance to base that on. As if Sasha dude had any characterisation, there is stupidity added in the mix that doesn't help his character at all. There is very weak evil dude for the climax to take place, it's not having enough space in a too short book and ends up just being bland like the romance to create any hook for me to continue.

We meet Ava under interesting circumstances and we know she's got some magic. Vox Elemental who can conjure all the elements instead of 1-2. She's more or less forced to attend this school to learn control or lose her voice forever without ever getting it back. Her kind is extremely rare and she's the only one we know of. Most of the magical community is okay with her kind but there is some that are not. There are some sexy guys who she is drawn to. That's the gist of the book. Here is what I think and I'm being 100% honest...there's no other way for me. This book reads super fast. You blink and its over. If I didnt know better I'd think this was a YA because it reads like one. They are in their early 20s but act like 17 year olds. To be honest it feels like there wasn't a lot of effort put into this book. Dont get me wrong authors work hard on books but there's a lot that bothers me in this one. There is definitely a plot but not much to it. She didnt develop it very far and same with the characters she created. We need more building of the story and characters for sure. She gave us a skimming of information if I were to describe it. Ava's character bothered me quite a bit. When she first arrives she's pretty ticked off but she does a complete 180 pretty fast and gets all excited about stuff. She makes friends instantly which okay but its like they moved into bffs in 2 seconds. Not really believable to me. Then she starts meeting some hotties. Sasha, Rafferty, and Jamey. She turns into a horndog with Rafferty knows nothing about the guy only that he's a ladies man. The love scenes were okay but not spectacular. There's no emotional connection between her and the guys. What she has with Jamey is more real than what she has with the other 2. I like him best. Not that the other 2 arent important the author just didnt do enough for them. Then...we meet a 4th guy Whitt. We know nothing about him. Ava doesnt even talk to him besides "nice to meet you" and shook his hand. Then its like he didnt exist in the book or to Ava. I'm like what happened??? I think as little as he was in the book it would have been more prudent to introduce him at the very very end of this book or in book 2 where we get to know him. Then again we dont know much about the other guys either. This definitely doesnt read like other Academy books. Ava fights nothing. She's like okay with EVERYTHING! There is sinister stuff happening but it doesnt even really happen til 70-80% in. Its very rushed. I liked the blurb but man we just didnt get that. I feel let down. On a positive note...I liked the story and I like it enough to continue. To me I think why it went wrong was that there is a lot of information the author wanted to put out there and tell us but didnt want to make the book long for whatever reason? So, she cut some things short and tried to jam it into a novella length book. I mean most of it went to that 70-80% mark. Just a guess though. Hopefully 2nd book is more put together.

Ok, that might be a little harsh, but honestly, there was no character development, no plot, no history, basically no romance that was believable, no elaboration of each power, breeze past how Ava learned her powers. She's a Vox which is supposed to be a type of mage that is "extinct", but there isn't a lot of info on the voxs. Also, the secret society that want to wipe out the voxs was a good start, but so underdeveloped. I wanted to know more. There was absolutely no connection between Ava and anyone. Her friends were random. They knock on her door and boom, friend made. Like I guess but I need them to hangout and talk to each other. I wanted a friend like Red from My Bloodline by KC Kean. Ava was just such a flat character. She was a card board box. Also, the guys were also card board boxes. If someone asked me a characteristic from anyone, I wouldn't be able to answer. Ava has sexual relations but without the foundation of a relationship or familiarity, it just felt sloppy. The only plus side was that I was starting to like the shifter. Not enough to redeem this book however. What was so annoying was that the book glossed over important points such as Ava learning how to control her powers. She gets plopped into a school and learns that she is a very powerful mage and starts to learn her powers but that's all off the page... wtf. The ending was kind of stupid. The two girls who are friends with Sasha's fiance were behind controlling the demon (i forgot what they called it) and ok who are they? Shouldn't we have been introduced to the "villains" so that it is more of a shock or at least so the reader has a reason to care that it was them who did it? Out of no where, we learn that Sasha has a fiance, but literally I didn't see any romance between Sasha and Ava. The revelation of the fiance was just awkward, weird and random. Also, there was no elaboration on why Sasha has a fiance in the first place. Ava just avoids him. Also, at the end, we get introduced to the teacher who completes the harem and my first thought was "why"? She already doesn't have any romance between the others and now we add another... k. I want books like Zodiac Academy, Sera's Curse, Seven Wishes, Variant Lost, Trickery etc and this just wasn't it.

I got this as a freebie a few months ago as I hunted for books to finish my Paranormal Roman & Urban Fantasy A-Z challenge on Goodreads. This starts with Avaline doing her job as a lifeguard at the lake when she is attacked with magic by two assailants who know her name. She wakes up a month later to learn she, too, has magic. A dangerous magic. She has two choices and decides to stay at the school to learn how to control her vox magic. I can't decide whether I liked this or not. She meets the guys, she lusts after them, she sleeps with one of them very quickly. She gets to lessons and on her second try ever she manages to make fire. I just expected things to take time...for her to initially struggle considering she didn't even know she had magic until a day or two ago. I struggled to connect with the characters and wasn't really convinced by their relationships. I didn't feel any real sort of chemistry going on between any of them. Once again, I feel like this bit was rushed. I get lust but... I wasn't a fan of how the author wrote the romance parts. This story had a lot of promise but we don't really learn much of anything. Ava learns about magic in lessons but we don't get to hear it. To me it feels like a bit of paper that's been scrunched into a ball and then flattened causing creases and ripples that means some details in the story have been glossed over. It could do with expanding a little with more details on certain aspects. At this point I don't believe I'll be reading more of this series.

Than all of the sudden she finds out that life might not be what it actually seems for her and she finds herself with a choice of going to a Magical Academy and learn how to harnest her powers or lose her voice all together. I found Ava to be kind of wishy-washy with her feelings. I have to say that Jamey is probably my favorite of the guy's, than probably Raff, and than Sasha (I would have said Sasha second except for the fact he kept a big secret from her.) As for how this book went as a paranormal academy book I think it went pretty normally. Dead Parents? Check.... Poor Lost Female Lead that finds out they secretly have powers? Check.... Tons of hot guy's veying for LF attention? Check... I did enjoy this first book though and did think that this series had potential. I will say that there was just No Big Wow moment for me in this book, but it held my interest enough that I wanted to read more of the series. I'm giving this book 3 Stars out of 5!!!!

There was no angst, no building relationships, no doubts, nothing. And now there's nothing left to look forward to in book 2. Disappointing because I like the way the author writes.

Book was just alright For starters, I debated between 2 or 3 stars. But 3 stars means the book is a good read and just couldn't give it that. Don't get me wrong, the storyline had the potential to be not only a good read but a great read. Also very little grammatical errors which is a huge plus. Problems I have were the core of the book. The fast forwards didn't allow the reader to gain a connection with the characters nor the relationships with said characters. The fast forwards didn't allow the reader to gain a connection with the characters nor the relationships with said characters. I feel that Sasha was cheated out of monumental "firsts". It's okay to fast forward, but those only work once the strength of characters and relationships are established or if nothing happens during the fast forwards, this one failed to deliver. So even though I thought the storyline was great, it just fell flat with the characters because I never connected nor got to know the characters; they were just there. I want to fall into a story not just read words on a page and that's basically what the book delivered. Sorry to be harsh, but I give honest reviews.

Come On, really!? Too many of, "The Academy", books have become the new, "Michael Crighton or Dean Koontz", books. Same formula, same basic theme. Rinse, repeat. Nothing but physical attraction. No depth to these characters or relationships. The thing that really bugs me is the authors try to make it seem the women are taking charge in these scenarios. To a small degree yes, but, making such decisions right after thier life turns upside down is just really IMMATURE. No foundation. Just stupid. Not romantic, not even particularly sexy. Opposite of strong female IMHO. Just Icky.

I hate when people judge a book for what it's NOT, so I'm trying my best here. The writing left a lot to be desired. It just didn't feel complex at all, if that makes sense. A few pieces of dialogue were missing quotation marks, which made me do a double take each time. There are instances where authors can get away with this in a way that's correct both grammatically and in format.... but this just wasn't it. On terms of the story, holy shit did Ava waste no time with the guys. Just didn't seem I hate when people judge a book for what it's NOT, so I'm trying my best here. She gave Sasha shit and here she is not having any discussion with the three guys as to the fact she wants them all. It just doesn't fly with me. Pot calling the kettle black, anyone? Let's see some COMMUNICATION please. The ending was rushed, too. "Oh, we super conveniently found the two evil doers. EVERYTHING is A-OKAY now!!" Nah. Just, nah. Too smoothed over in my opinion. I'll continue with the series but it was definitely a mediocre first book.

This is the first book in a new series and it is mostly different from the usual paranormal stories. Avaline has rare magic and isn’t aware of it until someone tries to harm her. Of course, she chooses school and meets three extremely attractive young men who kick her libido into overdrive. Our heroine never knew her parents as they died the day she was born. So they never go the chance to tell her about magic... This is the start of a reverse harem romance story set at a magical academy. I thought I was getting rather jaded to these stories, but then this one came along and really surprised me. Fast burn RH *** possible spoilers *** I liked this story line but there were a few things that raised questions with me. Like how none of the FMC or her men discuss them all having a relationship with her, it's just accepted in the story as if it not an issue. Marin gave no explanation how she knew Ava was a vox elemental, and even though she knew her parents Ava still ended up in foster care for the first 9 years of her life. Wow, we start off with action, suspense and more. Ava has been bounced from foster care to foster care until she is left with Marin. She is everything to her. Then when I'm off to work some weird people show up and omg they are trying to kill me. Then I wake up at a Academy and have to make a choice. My voice or stay at the Academy. What should I do?
