A week after I signed up to be on the Dream Big launch team, my wife and I quit our jobs and moved across the country to pursue an adventure. Her job would allow her to take short-term contracts—three to six months—in various cities and we were going to travel the country for a couple of years. It’s been our big dream for a couple of years and had been interrupted by the surprise adoption of our daughter. Less money. Less stability. More uncertainty. More adventure. Her job would allow her to take short-term contracts—three to six months—in various cities and we were going to travel the country for a couple of years. It’s been our big dream for a couple of years and had been interrupted by the surprise adoption of our daughter. Less money. Less stability. More uncertainty. More adventure. We are just trusting in God that he’s led us on the right path. And while we’re still sure that he has, it’s been a rocky start. More than once, just a few weeks in, we were already moving on to Plans B & C—plans that didn’t exist until Plan A started to falter. It seemed like our big dream had gone bust. It was into that uncertainty that I carved out a couple of hours with a Dream Big digital copy and a physical notebook and immersed myself in the infectious joy and overwhelming (in a good way!) positively of Bob Goff. It may have saved us. When I reemerged a couple of hours later, it was with a few pages of somewhat-legible scrawl and a renewed sense of purpose and vision. My absurd expectations are exactly that—but also what I need to expect. We aren’t wrong for exploring the opportunities of Plans B & C; sometimes God has to take you on a detour to get you on the correct path. Setbacks are to be expected. They help you learn and grow. Don’t be afraid to quit. Let it go. Don’t be afraid to start. Take it up. I could summarize it all in this quote: What I’ve discovered is that comfortable people don’t need Jesus and don’t chase their ambitions—desperate people do. If we’re going to get after our ambitions, God doesn’t want us living right in the middle of comfortable anymore. He wants us living on the edge of yikes. Reading Dream Big is an exhilarating, humbling, terrifying, encouraging experience. Bob Goff is…well, I don’t think there’s really anyone else like him. In so many people, his persona would come across as put-on or fake, but Bob exudes a genuineness and seriousness that compels you to live life the way he does. Right on the edge of yikes. And you know what, I think I can handle the edge of yikes if I know I’ve got people like Bob right there with me. So be careful. Dream Big will drag you right into launch mode. This is the fire that’s going to cause all those bubbling hopes and dreams to boil over. And it’ll be messy. And it’ll be frustrating. And it’ll be the best thing you’ve ever done. Out of Dream Big, I made three commitments: One: I’ve written a novella called The Magic, The Music, and the Dance. I’m going to publish it on Kindle in the month of July. I had announced that I was going to publish it some time back, but I’d started to back off on it, thinking it wasn’t good enough. Nope. I’m doing it. Final edits and formatting this next weekend and then preparing it for a July release. Two: Write 1,000 words a day. This is something that Bob Goff explicitly mentions in Dream Big. Every book he’s written has been the result of 1,000 words a day. I can do that. I have so many half-started projects to finish. Three: I’m launching a church. Not your typical church, and not intended to be a replacement for physical gatherings, but a virtual church experience. I’m a pastor currently without a congregation and I’ve spoken to so many who don’t currently feel safe at church—whether it’s due to the COVID-19 pandemic or from local churches that have left them with spiritual wounds. The church is people, after all, and some of my best friendships and most life-altering conversations have been experienced through the Internet. It’s called Church of the Wanderers, meant for all those who see themselves untethered from a national or denominational identity. It’s going to be an experience. That’s what Dream Big did to me. Bob Goff dug up some of my old dreams, brushed them off, and told me to finish them. He encouraged me in disciplines I knew I should have been following, but hadn’t. And he launched me into a dream that I didn’t know I had but that God has fully-formed in my prayer time this past week. Dream Big is dangerous. Read it at your own risk.

I love Bob, and getting to spend time with him in a new book is a treat and frankly has been good for my mental, emotional, and spiritual health - all of which are strained and suffering in these dangerous days. Still, I can't shake the feeling that Dream Big is the result of it "being time" for the next book, so Bob just did the best he could considering. The results feel rushed, vague, stories are not deeply relevant, analogies can demand a leap in logic. I did like this book. I found Mr. Goff's writing and the way he talked to be soothing and easy going. It was like listening to a friend talk. Which made reading this book enjoyable. Although, I do get the points that Bob made were great. I did feel like there were some repetitiveness throughout this book. Which made the book feel that much shorter and this book was already a short book. Yet, the advice that Bob gives and the situations that he gives examples of are relatable. Wowsers. I think I highlighted half of this book. That's how good it was. So good that I both listened to the audiobook AND read the ebook. This guy has so much audacity, but not so much that he annoys me. (I'm looking at you, Gary V.) No, Bob Goff has the kind of audacity that is contagious. The kind that makes you want to run after the biggest ambitions that you've had, make them happen, and reach for the stars...or further. Not in an unrealistic way. Actually, he does a fabulous job of laying out the realities of going after your ambitions. The failures. The setbacks. The climbing toward the big ones that seem outright impossible but layering some of the smaller ambitions out like stairs to climb up so that the big ambitions come within reach. I have read a lot of book about dreaming big, visions boards, goal setting.....and I have enjoyed many of them. But this one just seems real. It seems so realistic and so relatable...even though he is an ex-lawyer who seems to have done just about everything there is to do. Still relatable. That speaks to just how real this guy comes across. Just how conversationally he talks and writes. I have already started taking action on some of the many highlightable portions of this book. In fact, it's made me rethink so many of my ideas and ambitions that my head is bursting...but in fact, so is my heart. Can you tell how much I loved this book? No, okay.... Just kidding, I'm sure you can. The thing is, I've read other Bob Goff books and just felt kind of meh about them. So much so that I almost didn't read this one. But I'm so glad that I did. And I have a sneaking suspicion that I will go back to it over and over again.

This is one of the best books that I have read for encouragement, no matter what stage of life you are in. With his signature anecdotes and humor, Bob Goff encourages people to use where you are now as a launching pad for where you really want to be. I especially enjoyed how he made it a point to say that he just walked away from a successful law practice in order to concentrate on helping others, particularly the young children in Uganda. What a beautiful picture of what a Christian should do, if they can! This book would make a great gift for graduates, for those who find themselves unemployed and looking for the next thing and for those who just need encouragement to move forward out of the hole that we have dug ourselves into. I highly recommend this book to those who want to think positively about the future! Hard to really find the words to describe how incredible this book is. I feel like I’ve just finished having a heart to heart conversation about ambition, dreams and desires with someone I’ve known all my life. Those people are rare in life and even more rare for that to be expressed through a book. Would highly recommend for anyone, at any point in their life. So much to consider and so much more to do!

His book Love Does was life giving for me at a crucial time in my journey. It’s a book I always give to grads & newlyweds & anyone that asks. I’ve been to his school in Uganda & seen first hand all the ways he lives out his mission of loving others with no agenda. This is a man who’s actions match his word. Now I may need to start giving out this book instead. ⁣ ⁣ Dream Big provides practical applications & strategies for living life “𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘥𝘨𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘪𝘬𝘦𝘴”. It’s for those not only seeking a plan for their life but a purpose. He does this though his casual style of conversational storytelling and in small, succinct chapters. Reading this book feels like going to coffee with a favorite Uncle! Each chapter is short but filled with inspiring and practical wisdom to encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and DO something with your faith. But not just anything, something BIG. Something that helps others.⁣ ⁣ Bob Goff is passionate about life and he wants to push others to want to live a bigger, more meaningful life. We aren’t called to a life that is safe and we are meant to intercede on behalf of those without a voice. ⁣ ⁣ This is such a timely book as we all seek ways to live differently & amplify the voices around us.

We listened to Goff's first 2 books as a family and loved them. This one seemed like it was aimed more toward someone who has a dream they've never had the courage to act upon. It reminded me a lot of Jon Acuff's books. Which are great! But didn't feel relevant to our lives right now, as we feel like we are where God has called us to be, so we don't really need a shove in a new direction. YES, i love the advice of "you might not solve world hunger, but take your neighbor a pie. it's fulfilling the same goal of helping hungry people." and YES, i agree to be ready when opportunity presents itself (don't be a crazy fan when you meet your heroes; have intelligent questions ready so you can learn from them)... but i'm NOT going to give millions of strangers my phone number and have twelve meaningful conversations everyday. sure, i'll build community with half a dozen close friends. but i'm going to guard my own mental capacity and productivity a little more tightly. shrugs. but grateful for everyone else who needs this book....? ;)

At first, the book felt a bit too long and I felt like skipping over to the "good parts". However, I am glad I stuck it out - in fact, the author urges readers not to do this! The rest of the book contains excellent, practical advice. Anyone who feels frustrated with life and unable to capitalize on their full potential will love this book! If you want to pivot careers, or just find your calling but are scared of risks, this book is a great find; you will find great actionable advice. Great read! I felt that this was another wonderful book to add to my Toolbox if you will. Reflection questions win for me. They tie the material you were just presented, into a wonderful, self-directed session. So you can’t just rip thru the book and say “Nice read” and put it on your shelf. You pay attention to the reflection questions and work the material and that is where you start to turn the mirrors around to face you. It gets real folks. Just invest in the book, share with recent grads in your life. I feel that anything that allows you to improve upon YOU, is a win on any level. It’s what YOU take away from it. It’s what you see as a “positive” vs “oh it wasn’t for me”. You can find something workable on any level in this book. If you can’t, well then you may need to work a bit harder on your journey towards taking care of you! ;)

As I read this book I found new and more purposes for my life as well as what I put my worth into. This book has helped shape how I plan to live and view life moving forward. Bob is a great storyteller and he has truly lived one of the most interesting lives I’ve had the privilege of reading/hearing about. Dream Big is full of fun stories that inspire not only the way I want to live but also lead, and parent, and dream. There are many stories that I want to emulate but to emulate these stories would be to miss the point of the book. Through the framework of this book and Bob’s stories, you should be inspired to go out and create your own stories worth telling. This book is a very easy read with short and concise chapters but I found myself reading it slowly (only a chapter or 2 per day). There’s a lot of rich information within the simplicity of each concept and chapter. I would highly recommend taking this book slow and, as Bob notes in the introduction, take notes and underline as you go. You just might find your true self amongst the pages.

It’s the kind of conversation I tend to put off having with myself until I feel like the time is right. But when something disrupts my routine like this pandemic has, I’m more inclined to reflect and adjust my focus. Reading Dream Big made me feel like I wasn’t just daydreaming about what my life could look like in the future. It felt like I was sitting around having a deep conversation with an old friend about my childhood dreams, what held me back from going after them and what I still want to pursue. But instead of just leaving me with the warm and fuzzy feeling of a good conversation, I left with a clear list of my ambitions and action ideas for how to pursue my biggest dreams. It can be difficult to take an honest look at who we are, where we are and what we want, but as Bob describes it, “Here’s what makes it worth it: when we sort through all the words written by ourselves and others, and when we discard what isn’t true or doesn’t matter anymore, we’ll find the clarity we need to choose the desires that are worth pursuing. What’s left over will be your truest, most beautiful, and lasting ambitions.” As he pulls you into this soul-searching conversation in Dream Big, Bob weaves his own personal anecdotes together with stories of friends he’s met throughout his life to present interesting and insightful life lessons that inspire the reader to leave behind limiting beliefs and distractions to boldly pursue meaningful ambitions. Concluding with a generous section of reflection questions and action ideas for uncovering and taking steps toward your biggest dreams, Dream Big provides a practical launching point for wholehearted pursuit of your most fulfilling ambitions. The questions and action ideas come from Bob’s Dream Big Framework, a 2-day workshop that has helped thousands of people define and accomplish their dreams. An expert in dreaming big and making bold life changes, Bob quit his own law firm after 25 years of practicing law. In 2003, he founded a nonprofit human rights organization serving children in conflict zones. The organization is known today as Love Does. Bob’s 2012 book by the same name is a New York Times bestseller. Do you want to dream big dreams and get serious about pursuing your most worthwhile ambitions? Get a copy of Dream Big and let Bob lead you into an honest conversation with yourself that gives you the push you need to get started. “Let’s stop deferring, ignoring, and screwing around, distracting ourselves with things that won’t really matter next week, much less in our next life. Let’s instead throw our efforts and emotional weight into those ambitions which will outlast us and leave all the rest behind.” - Bob Goff, Dream Big *I received an advance copy of the book to review from the publisher via NetGalley. Goff ties his faith to each of the steps in such a way that it seemed to be common sense, and I loved hearing him go through them all. This book is great for those looking for a life change, but also great for those that might be looking for smaller changes, it really fits everyone and there are so many nuggets we can apply to everyday life. The good news is we are always evolving, so you can’t say that this one isn’t for you! “If God answered every one of your prayers, would it change anybody’s life except your own?” Thank you to TLC Book Tours and Thomas Nelson for my gifted copy to review.

I really like Bob Goff despite the fact that he's the kind of author that usually annoys me and I tend to read his books when they come out despite the fact that I hate books of this type and popularity. This is Bob Goff's third book and is probably the most normal. The first book was a collection of manic somewhat unbelievable stories, the second one was a collection of much more normal stories, and this one is more of a self-improvement book. It's still weird and manic though. It's still weird and manic though. He gives advice like "Aim to have 12 meaningful conversations every day." These days, I'm not sure I have 12 conversations every week, not to mention meaningful. Or "Quit something every Thursday," another piece of advice that only works if you're already doing things. Despite Goff's annoying strangeness, he has a kindness that shines through his books and I think that's what makes me keep coming back to them. If most people wrote a book about pursuing your ambitions, it would sound intimidating and judgmental; Goff manages to sound encouraging and there's some real gems in it.

Dream Big is an easy to read and conversational self-help book about pursuing your dreams, finding your purpose, and making a difference. I was lucky enough to get an early copy of this book courtesy of NetGalley, and boy am I glad I never got it any later. I'm not 100% finished quite yet, but where I'm at so far has delivered on what makes Bob Goff's books so great: Bob's charming and charismatic personality leaps off the page. He challenges you, and calls you to seriously dig deep and reflect on everything about yourself. For me, this book came at the perfect time considering where I find myself in my life right now. Every chapter I read gives me more clarity on how I can discover more about myself (personality, interests, tendencies, attitudes, etc), and in turn, how I can tackle the goals I've only been daydreaming of. I'll come back with my final thoughts once I finish. At this rate, it won't be much longer ;) Okay I'm done. This will be a book that I'll continue to look back to and reference as I go throughout my life needing encouragement and practicality when it comes to fulfilling my ambitions.

This is my third Bob Goff book, but my first audiobook, and I have to say, I LOVED hearing him read his own words. I feel like all of his books are a warm hug and an inspiration to just DO BETTER and LOVE MORE, and this book was similar in that vein. I'm not sure it was actually a goal-setting book as it purports to be but at the same time, my narrow view of goal setting has been a little bit expanded after reading (listening to) this. It's an easy read/listen, and I recommend it (esp in audio format). I received an electronic audio copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I really love Bob, his stories, and how he connects everything to Jesus and never settling. We are capable of so much in our short lives here on earth, so what am I going to do to make my days bigger and better? Bob always comes through on inspiring me to push toward my goals i think are impossible and reminds me to connect these goals to Jesus. Although I’m feeling motivated from this read, I do think this book is a little repetitive based on his previous books Love Does and Everybody Always. Bob Goff does it again. Who are you, where are you and what do you want? Through those three questions, Bob helps us discover the big dreams inside of us and take the steps towards making those our reality. My favorite part about the book is that it isn't promoting dreaming big for the sake of simply accomplishing more, but rather it encourages us to chase after our big God-given dreams to live a life that is full of growth and impact instead of living in fear of failure. I don't typically consider myself a faith-based person, but there is so much to like about Bob Goff. His anecdotal style and caring personality make it seem like he is speaking directly to you, and genuinely wants to help you. I hope I keep working for the kind of life Bob has, and says that I can have, because it seems like he has a rich, fulfilling existence focused to a large degree on others. As usual, Bob Goff delivers an uplifting, wholesome, inspiring, and helpful book! This (as the title suggests), encourages the reader to bring their dreams to life in his whimsical, enneagram 7 way! Threaded with hilarious anecdotes along with sad stories, and a message of hope, basically anyone could gain from reading this book. I CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS BOOK ENOUGH! I feel refreshed, excited, and motivated to follow through with some of my deepest ambitions. While reading this book, I even discovered a few new ambitions that I didn’t even know that I had. This book made me laugh, smile, and even cry. It is definitely one that I will recommend to everyone I know. Powerful stuff, so much good information, and such an easy read. Bob Goff is my new favorite author!

Bob Goff is a very gifted story storyteller. In this book, he intertwines his stories with motivation and encouragement to achieve your biggest dreams and aspirations. Along the way, he tells you how he did in his life. There are also questions in the back of the book to help guide your reading, which unfortunately I didn’t discover until the end. I wish I would have caught that (I’m sure he talks about it in the beginning) as I think I would have been able to take more from the practical aspect Bob Goff is a very gifted story storyteller.
