Nancy Drew that get's her friends to help her figure out who the thief is by learning that he's a kleptomaniac and by breaking into computer chip company's building. Do Nancy and her friends get caught, do they solve the mystery, or does Nancy's boyfriend Ned go to jail for all the thievery? Find out by reading this old story turned graphic novel. This graphic novel I would say is made up of 2/3's of horizontal tri-sections. So about two thirds of this book is made up of each page having three boxes of graphics that are done horizontally. The gutters are a bit thicker, which helps translate that the scene has shifted, even if only by a little bit. There is three different "text graphics". There one set that is in blocks that conveys what's going on in the story, another is the speech bubbles that convey what the characters are saying, then there are the action noises such as vroom, craashh, and bing. At the end of the book there's a few papers that recommend other books, talk with the author and the artist, and a sneak peak into another Nancy Drew story. The colors of the pages vary from page to page depending on what the storyline is like. If it's a happier time, or a regular scene the colors tend to be lighter, while more mysterious and nighttime scenes are darker. All the drawings are done on the computer with some CG elements and I would say the lines have a more straight feel then say a curvy feel. This graphic novel was pretty easy to follow along with and understand what was going on. The reader needed to both read the text and look at the pictures to understand the story. Overall it was a good graphic novel, and it's easy to see why young kids enjoy reading it.

This graphic novel is the seventh in the Nancy Drew series, which is based on the novel series by Carolyn Keene. The combination of the captions, dialogue and full-colour illustrations kept my attention and gave enough depth to the story. Aimed at upper intermediate students, this book would probably be preferred by girls because of the lead female character, but the crime content would be attractive to boys as well.

This is a somewhat odd story bordering on silly. Mr. Drew and Nancy take a tour of a chip-making plant and a major advanced computer chip is stolen. There's a variety of other things in the story that get stolen, and Ned ends up being accused of stealing a camera. Nancy gets a charm bracelet from someone and it has charms on it that seem to stand for the things that are being stolen. Nancy gets kidnapped (again). I can't reveal more without exposing the actual story ending, so I'll just say it was not the best story in the series by any means.

Why I Read This Book: It looked interesting on the library shelf. As it says on the cover, this is a "Full-Color Graphic Novel". This is the first that I read in the series. The artwork, by Daniel Vaughn Ross, is pretty good, though the manga-ish style isn't quite to my taste. The writing is quite good; it's a fair, and clever, mystery, though it has a particularly bad closing pun. This was my favorite in the series until I read #6 ( Mr. Cheeters Is Missing ). This book was a great surprise to learn about and see that Nancy Drew was carrying on as a graphic novel now. While I wasn't too keen on the art style, I still sucked it up and enjoyed it. The story was good, but Nancy was a bonehead! She was so absent minded and forgetful, this was nothing like the real Nancy Drew in the main series. I was disappointed about that, but it was still a fun read. One other thing I am wondering about is where the heck is Helen Corning? The new Nancy Drew graphic novels is a modern version of her character. The mysteries are up dated too. In this one someone stole a very expensive micro chip. On the same day Nancy's boyfriend was accused of stealing a camera. Then, she received a charmed bracelet in the mail that had a micro chip and camera charms on it as wells as other charms; which Nancy figured those were the next items to be stolen. Recommend for 3rd through 6th grade. Pubished 2006. The new Nancy Drew graphic novels is a modern version of her character. The mysteries are up dated too. This was another Nancy Drew I enjoyed. I thought it was pretty creative the way the charm bracelet was linked to all the crimes that subsequently happened after Nancy received the bracelet in the mail. Nancy saves the day as she always does but wounds her boyfriend Ned's ego by saving him a couple times in the story. Never fear the two make amends and are happy together! This is an easy read. I loved reading this book because it brought back memories of reading all the Nancy Drew books when I was younger. This format made for an easy read. The book is about a stolen microchip. Nancy receives a charm bracelet in the mail that will have all the clues she needs to solve this mystery. I read this in Spring '08. Read this for my Children/YA lit class. Definitely a different take on the books from my childhood. Never thought I'd see Nancy Drew in a graphic novel. Read this for my Children/YA lit class.
