He may have been self-absorbed in his human life, but he has seen the error of his ways and really gave his all in trying to help young Marissa and her family. The story was heartwarming and humorous, and it was filled with an interesting and lively cast of characters. Fun and uplifting, this was a great read for the holiday season.

I got this book and a week or so later got a kitten. I had no name for him and everything did not fit. I had put this book on the shelf and remembered there was a name I liked. I opened the book and said, "Sterling?" he let out a meow and I said a gouple more names then again I said "Sterling" and he meowed. He was MY Christmas Angel. "He Sees You When You're Sleeping" is a holiday story about Sterling Brooks, a man in the celestial waiting room outside the gates of Heaven. He wasn't a bad man during his life, but he also never went out of his way to help other people. The Heavenly Council sends him back to New York, giving him the chance to show that he's a caring, helpful person worthy of admission into Heaven. The story is a light fantasy involving a young girl whose father and grandfather are in hiding. Sterling must devise a plan to capture the gangsters and reunite the girl's family. The criminals' mother adds lots of humor to the story. There are also heartfelt moments about caring for others and family love. December is always a busy month so I enjoy reading an occasional "fluffy" holiday book to relax.

I am going to start with a little story.I like to read Christmas related books around Christmas.Usually I go with mysteries since they are the easiest to find. This year I was lucky enough to find the reprints of the Christmas mysteries by Mary Higgins Clark and her daughter Carol Higgins Clark.Upon reading them I realized I was missing one.I could not find He Sees You When You Are Sleeping. My mother also read all of the books I found and looked for the last one as well.I figured I was going to h I am going to start with a little story.I like to read Christmas related books around Christmas.Usually I go with mysteries since they are the easiest to find. This year I was lucky enough to find the reprints of the Christmas mysteries by Mary Higgins Clark and her daughter Carol Higgins Clark.Upon reading them I realized I was missing one.I could not find He Sees You When You Are Sleeping. My mother also read all of the books I found and looked for the last one as well.I figured I was going to have to order if I wanted it.On Christmas day, my mother was telling one of my sisters about the books, when she replied that she had read a couple of them and had one. The one she had was He Sees You When You Sleeping.Definitely a nice little Christmas surprise. This mystery is different from the other mysteries by Mary Higgins Clark and Carol Higgins Clark. All of the others feature Alvirah Meehan teaming up with Regan Reilley. This novel features Sterling Brooks. He finds himself in the Celestial Waiting Room.He was not a bad man while alive. The problem is that he also wasn't a very good man either.Sterling is given the chance to go back to Earth so he can help someone and earn some time in Heaven. This is a very touching story filled with love, redemption, and humor.i loved the concept of the Celestial Waiting Room and the angel in training program. The authors left an opening for future novels, which I would really like to read.As with all the other Christmas mysteries by these 2 authors, this is an excellent holiday read for the whole family.

Sterling had to make a deal with The Heavenly Council, help someone on Earth and if succeeded, be able to go to the Heavenly Christmas Party. He went back to help this little girl, Marissa. If Sterling could help Marissa she could finally have her wish come true. Her dad and grandmother (Billy and NorNor) had to go away because they were in danger. All Marissa would like was for her father and grandma back for her birthday, Christmas Eve. Sterling pulled some "magic", along with the helped of the Heavenly Council, and helped people put the bad guys in prison, for Charlie and his wife to be safe at last, and for Billy and Nor to come back on Marissa's birthday. Once Sterling finished his task to help someone other than himself, he told the Heavenly Council that from now on, every Christmas he wanted to help someone new. I recommend this book to mostly everyone; it really does tell an amazing story that could even change how other people think about themselves and others.

I loved this book. Fast paced and very funny. Junior and Eddie are hilarious! A couple of bumbling idiots. Their mother is also funny. I love how Sterling realizes his mistakes he made in life while he was alive...

I loved this! Mary Higgins Clark is one of my favorite authors. This Christmas setting was a perfect read for me right now. It was different from other books I’ve read, but refreshing. As the reviews state, it has the same feel as “It’s a Wonderful Life” with a twist. That’s my favorite Christmas movie so I was intrigued. I was not disappointed. I love a good Christmas story!

Very few books are sent to the burn pile, but this is definitely one of them! Some guy is stuck at the gates of heaven needing to do a good deed to get in. So wrong in so many ways! A nice novella for Christmas -- goes well with hearth/home... We've enjoyed virtually every Mary Higgins Clark book (all of them), including her last Christmas season book also co-authored with her daughter Carol (who we're not particularly fond of), but it's not really obvious two authors are at work (unlike, for example, the two Stephen King / Peter Straub collaborations). This pleasant little tale of an angel wannabe coming back to earth to earn his full passage through the pearly gates has just enough plot, just enough character development, and just enough suspense to please -- with everything wrapped up so nicely at the end. But at the same time, we doubt the authors planned it for anything more than it is -- an hour and a half of nice-ness at Christmas time, very suitable for easy chair by the fire with a glass of wine while awaiting Santa. How does one complain about that?! Merry Christmas.

I listened to this book on tape, and found it very slow going. The protagonist, a deceased lawyer trying to earn his way to heaven, tries to help a little girl who's separated from her father. It's sweet, but the plot is so simple that it could have been told with much less tedious detail. I also thought the authors' view of heaven was a bit strange. Oh well, maybe it's just not a good book to hear read aloud. I listened to this book on tape, and found it very slow going. I despise this tenth month we're in, so I'm going anti-October by reading Christmas novels throughout this month. He Sees You When You're Sleeping is a light-hearted, cutesy, saccharine sweet Yuletide read. Even the content is largely innocent; as bad as it gets is two or three profanities, though some may quibble with its depiction of heaven. Though it wasn't anything groundbreaking, this book was so enthralling that I must give it four stars. He is not actually coming back in corporeal form except when the powers that be give him permission to become visible. Sterling's assignment is to help a broken-hearted little girl who does not understand why she can no longer call or see her beloved father and grandmother. They have become material witnesses to a crime and were placed in protective custody for their own safety. It is up to Sterling to resolve this situation so that Marissa can be re-united with her relatives by Christmas Eve. This book is a fun, feel-good holiday story that would make a much more cheerful movie than the one it borrows from. I enjoyed reading it - even though Christmas was a couple of months ago.

This is such a charming book! The Higgins-Clark mother/daughter duo do a fantastic job in creating a wonderful story filled with love, mystery, and a heavenly task. Ugh forced myself to finish this one. Someone left it at work and it seemed to be a quick read on breaks, but now I'm on vacation and had to get it over with. What confounds me is I know I used to like Mary Higgins Clark. Could have sworn I read all of her stuff when I was younger. Her daughter's books too. Now I'm questioning how stupid I was to have read those books as this one was horrible. First of all, I'm not a Christian so the schmaltzy Christmas angel stuff does nothing for me. I try to read a “Christmas Book '' each year around this time and this year it's He See’s You When Your Sleeping.  Incidentally, I have no idea what the title has to do with the story; they don’t seem related at all.  Basically, this is a Hallmark Christmas Movie in book form.  It’s a nice story with a predictable plot which isn’t always a bad thing.  The characters were transparent with no surprises and the good guys win in the end.  Which is perfectly fine just not what I was looking for.  I’m I try to read a “Christmas Book '' each year around this time and this year it's He See’s You When Your Sleeping. I’m mildly disappointed (and feel a little misled) with this book.

A Christmas Story.......... Sterling has been waiting in the waiting outside of heaven for a long time. There must be a meeting to decide if Sterling will be allowed to enter or not. It is decided that Sterling must go back to earth and help a girl named Marissa. It is quite a story about how Sterling helps Marissa. (and how he learns to be concerned about others)

This was a pretty quick read. Sterling is a man in the waiting room of heaven. He wasn’t a bad man when he lived, just one who never went out of his way to help others. In order to go to heaven, he gets a mission to go to earth and help someone. The someone he picks is a little girl named Marissa whose father and grandmother are in witness protection. Sterling eventually finds a way to reunite them and make sure the bad guys go to jail.

The last book I read was Gone with the Wind, so I appreciated the GWTW reference on page 15: “I adopted Scarlett O’Hara’s motto, ‘I’ll think about it tomorrow.’” This “Christmas” book is like a lot of “Christmas” books. There isn’t much to do with Christmas other than it’s that time of year. However, it’s a quick little read and reminds us that, “Making other people happy is one of the great joys of the human condition” (201).

I needed a holiday themed book for my 2020 Reading Challenge and figured something short (~2.5 hours of reading) and random would suffice. I actually really liked the way it was written, and ended up caring a lot more about the main characters than I expected..... Although reading a Christmas book on an 85 degree day didn't really set the mood very well. This was a cute Christmas story, and I enjoyed the connections that were made. With that said, Mary Higgins Clark was known for being the 'Queen of Suspense.' There was no suspense in this novel at all. The reader could pretty much predict the course the novel was going to take from beginning to end, and the crime/action portion of the novel was lacking.
