This was an OK little horror story but didn’t really live up to the promise of the prequel one-shots, unfortunately. Some of the subplots never went anywhere but I suppose they could have been set-up for future Ravencroft stories.

4.5 stars. Great art and a good story. It was kind of a tie in to other Marvel works like Spider-Man and Venom - not that I have read those- but the story made sense anyway because it was told in flashbacks. Shame it’s a stand alone.

Well, my interest for Ravencroft quickly vanished with this book, seems like they're establishing a smaller kind of Dark Reign here, but I'm just not feeling it, bring the Midnight Sons back and we'll talk.

Just seemed slightly underdone

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. I couldn't even finish this, which is saying something. I've forced myself through some drek in my day but when the art is ugly AND the dialogue is this cringe enducing I couldn't help thinking there were better uses of my time. Here's the thing, a Marvel version of Arkham is interesting enough of a concept you don't need to double down by shoving Norman Osborn, Kingpin, Taskmaster, Hobgoblin, etc. into the mix. That's just way too heavy handed. That's essentially telling your readers you have nothing interesting to do with the concept in and of itself that you have to rely on the work others have done for you. "Ohhhh.man, Norman Osborn...AGAIN...shits really serious now!" It's essentially the same thing as giving "insert random Marvel character here" a symbiote or the Phoenix Force. You have no ideas but want to manufacture something impressive and imposing with as little work as possible. Then there's the fact that Grizzly, Kingpin, Hyde, and even Frank Castle all have the same face. If that's not bad enough, said face is some weird gorilla jaw line thing. Which for characters like Hyde and Grizzly make sense. But why the hell does Frank Castle have it too? It's aggressively terrible no matter which way you cut it.

Ruins Of Ravencroft set up a hell of a lot of Carnage-related backstory for the Ravencroft Institute, but the actual Ravencroft mini falls somewhere between there and a pseudo-Thunderbolts arc. The star of the show swings between Norman and John Jameson as they vie for control of the asylum, while monsters from the depths spring up to menace them. Oh, and the Kingpin is there for a bit too. It's not bad. It's just kinda okay? I don't really have a lot else to say. Oh, Reed Richards shows up for a bit. It's fine? Also fine is the art. Angel Unzueta could have gone a bit harder on the body horror I think, but it's serviceable enough. I'm not even sure who I'd recommend this to. People who really like the Spider-Man characters? People who really want to read about Norman Osborn being a dick? I dunno. It's fine. This is fine. I've lost my train of thought. Fine? Ruins of Ravencroft was better. But this was...fine.

Ruins of Ravencroft was good, this is mediocre.

4.5 This was very good. A good deal better than I would have suspended. I didn't even intend to read it. But... I guess I did. The resolution to the main conflict of the series was a bit abrupt/too easy. But the behind the scenes machinations made it a little better with some cool character consequences. Misty Night and Punisher: that team up totally works. Also Misty Night! 4.5 This was very good. A good deal better than I would have suspended. I didn't even intend to read it. But... I guess I did.
