Slow-Moving Cozy Mystery When the book opens, Grandma Mary and grandson Tripp are enjoying a relaxing weekend in a cabin owned by the parents of one of Tripp’s friends. Officer Preston will be leading the official investigation, but Mary and Tripp can't help joining the investigation. I enjoy cozy mysteries a lot. I will admit that I'm used to certain pacing and conventions in them. For instance, the murderer or foul play usually happens pretty quickly, usually within the first 8% to 10% of the book (and sometimes even sooner). That was not the case here. In this book, the man didn't fall from the roof until around 27%. The time before that was spent showing Grandma and grandson’s evolving relationship as well as the newly forming relationship between the friend’s entire family and Mary and Tripp. I felt like I kept waiting for something to happen. I knew this was a cozy, I knew from the blurb that a murder was involved, so I felt like I kept turning pages waiting for the story to really start. The pacing of the rest of the book—the part after the murder—felt slow to me. Because so much time was taken before the murder, I didn't feel like there is enough space left to build the suspense, throw in red herrings, and otherwise develop the normal plot devices needed in a mystery to keep you turning the pages. I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review. Read my other reviews at https://www.readingfanaticreviews.com

The problems faced by teens Awesome. Heartbreaking but it does happen that children get abused by the very people who should have their best interests at heart. A great plot done with sensitivity and feeling plus a whole lot of understanding. Good to see the characters grow into themselves especially the teens who show how much peer pressure can be put on then and the way home life can affect them. School conflicts, child abuse, divorce, embezzlement and a lot of angst follow. Who killed the man and why? Will the teenage conflicts be resolved?

Fudge and Murder is another book in the wonderful Sweets Shop Cozy Mysteries. These stories do stand alone, but they are definitely better if you read them all. The recurring cast of characters is great. Tripp and Mary have made many friends in their new community. This story is a great mystery but it also deals with the angst of being freshmen in a new school - particularly if you are the one(s) who don't fit the "norm." I never figure out "who did it" which I love. These are just great stories Fudge and Murder is another book in the wonderful Sweets Shop Cozy Mysteries. I’m so in love with Maisy Morgan’s books! The characters are from a small community in Georgia and they feel like family. I love that its the same families and kids in each book, its like your favorite tv series only in a book. The mystery is always good and I love trying to figure them out. The plot not only involves a plot of mystery but the challenges of life within daily life of the characters. These books always bring a smile to my face. Quick mystery read. Characters were very well rounded, particularly considering the number and the length of the story. The plot was engaging and fast paced enough to keep the reader's attention. Dealt with teenage and adult relationship turmoils simoltaniously. There were certainly enough suprises to keep you wondering what was going to happen in this small group next. Good man or evil? I really like this series. Tripp is having a few adjustment problems. He is confused and getting in with another crowd. One of his friends fathers is murdered. There are many surprises but it is clean and the characters are evolving. Cant wait to see what happens next.
