Together they created a best selling novel. One sister has social anxiety, she is the writer. Her vivacious and beautiful sister is, to the world, the writer and she does all the public relations. When Eugenia, the real writer, decides she does not want to continue writing this particular type of book (vampire related) her sister does not take it well. This book was billed as a thriller but it is very slow paced and has a claustrophobic feeling. Much of it takes place inside the home where both girls dwell. There is also a stalker whom the beautiful sister starts to DATE (You heard that right) and lots of internal musings from Eugenia on whether to continue or not to continue writing about vampires. The book has a Gothic intense feel and like I said the word that comes to my mind is claustrophobic. It is not a bad book. But I am just not the target audience. I think that people who like V.C. Andrews might like this. I am the Lion really reminded me of something she would have written. In fact, I've read current V.C. Andrews, (of coarse not written by THE V.C. Andrews) and some are terrible. This author should take over those writings! She does know how to write a Gothic, spooky little book. But I expected something more breezy, more of a fast paced thriller, maybe like the book, "Until I met her". So, this style is just nor for me. Recommended for fans of slow moving Gothic or fans of books about fictional writers.

Loved it! What a nice surprise this was. I didn't know what to expect, but was intrigued by the blurb (And who wouldn't?) And I was not disappointed. If you enjoy psychological thrillers, you’ll want to grab this one. Really original story, great characters, and plenty of twists guaranteed to get your heart racing! I especially enjoyed the writing style. It’s both engaging and witty. Highly recommended. Loved it! What a nice surprise this was. The writing was decent, aside from quite a lot of typos and some awkward, stilted phrasing. We got a protagonist with social anxiety (even if her symptoms did seem to conveniently come and go), a sister with an unidentified mood disorder and substance abuse issues, an old stalker, a LION. This could all have set the scene for something along the lines of The Woman in the Window, but nothing really came of any of it. What we ended up with instead was a man holding two women hostage and drugging, beating, and eventually murdering one, and I have no idea why anyone would want to read about that. I didn't; I had to skim the entire last third of the book. And Eugenia shouldn't have had to be broken by a man in order to get better and stronger. CBT exists!

Not Quite A Lion If the story had actually stayed within its description as psychological thriller I would have enjoyed it so much more. I liked the first half of the story as Eugenia deals with her up and down relationship relationship with her sister Virginia who is pressuring her to write a new book to follow up her successful first novel at 21(!). They both have issues. Eugenia's issues, include agoraphobia which is how her sister became the face of the fictional named author of her book. They both have issues. Eugenia's issues, include agoraphobia which is how her sister became the face of the fictional named author of her book. But as low as Eugenia's self esteem is, rooted in a traumatic bullying experience, she seemed remarkably resilient and even manages to overcome her agoraphobia rather quickly - such as when the hunky FedEx man asks her out on a date! Eugenia's thoughts as she went through her writing process and learning to rely more on herself were interesting as well as the symbiotic relationship she and her domineering older sister had built up. I was intrigued to read what was going to happen next. But then the book took a sharp turn into horror territory with a riff on Stephen King's Misery and the last third of the book was spent physically battling a very human villain who somehow seemed impervious to every single brutal physical fight. They just kept coming back and it actually became tedious as the fights kept going and going until finally shattering my suspension of disbelief beyond its limits. The author's writing was very skillful in her descriptive way of bringing the reader into the story and hold their attention. As much as didn't like the last part of the book, I still wanted to know how it would end. I will be interested in seeing more from her over time. I received an ARC for this book in exchange for an unbiased review.

Wow! I don’t know what to say. This was so good. It is hard to call it one specific thing. There is a creeping dread throughout the first part of the book. You know something bad is coming and I didn’t want to get to it because I loved Genie so much. Wow, what a great read! Lately I have been reading a lot of cozies so this was outside of what I normally read. This is the first book that I have read by Ms Lauro and what a place to start! Twisty, turny and so very psychological. Once I started reading, I was hooked. Both Eugenia and Virginia have their own psychological issues that they are dealing with, or not dealing with! Their are certain people that you hope will get theirs in the end. And I was definitely rooting for Ben and Eugenia. I w Wow, what a great read! 3.5 stars. I read this on the Kindle and there were a lot of spelling and grammatical errors, which I found distracting. The story seems inspired by VC Andrews, especially with sisters named Virginia and Eugenia. :) It's an interesting tale of two young sisters, a stalker and a lion. I recommend this taut, exciting book!... Very engaging and exciting! I would recommend this to any readers who can stand the description of a lion eating hunks of meat. My rating: Story: 4 out of 5 stars Writing: 5 out of 5 stars Character development: 5 out of 5 stars Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars Review: This is a nail biting story that hooks you from the very first page and doesn’t let go until the end of the very last. The book is a psychological thriller with an element of horror at the end. All the ingredients for a great thriller are there; the writing is tense, there is lots of suspense and plenty of twist and turns. The characters are well developed, you will easily find yourself rooting for the main character Eugenia and hate her sister. The element of horror at the end was the only part I didn't enjoy as much. On the other hand, it did create plenty of suspense. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed the book! I received an ARC from the author at no cost to me.

You won’t see this threat coming! Eugenia and Virginia have lost their mother to cancer. Their father disappeared from their lives years ago. They have only each other to rely on. The sisters work together, live together and are each in some way broken from their difficult childhood. Eugenia is a talented writer with a huge best seller, but she is crippled by her social aversions. She can’t face leaving the safety and seclusion of her home. Virginia responded to life very differently. She is outgoing, can be a bit of a bully, but underneath she craves love and is very vulnerable. Eugenia is the talent and Virginia is the face and social voice of their fictitious author, Amy Mathews. This arrangement works until Virginia and their agent want to turn their best seller into a series. Eugenia wants to retire her blood-sucking protagonist and move on with her life. She longs to write under her own name and slay her reclusive demons, become part of the world again. Into this volatile mix, add a budding relationship for Eugenia and an Amy Matthews stalker, and you get this intense psychological thriller! I loved how Eugenia was able to work through her phobias to discover her hidden inner strength. I found the villain to be Terminator-like, in that he was indestructible despite several injuries – a feat that didn’t seem plausible to me. Despite that, the story is very well written with a twisty plot that had me second guessing pretty much everyone’s sincerity as the story unfolded. There’s some violence along with plenty of drama, suspense, secrets, lies, and betrayals – offset nicely by one very sweet romance. I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I enjoyed this book immensely! I stayed up through until I finished it. I felt like I was in the middle of psychological drama while reading this. Someone was messing with Eugenia's mind. I liked this book, and the portrait of the relationship between Eugenia and Virginia, their almost symbiotic but unhealthy bond, the way Virginia takes advantage of Eugenia's issues to pressure her. Pride As someone battling social anxiety myself, I immediately felt a kinship with Eugenia Ward. She is a stronger woman than she gives herself credit for in the beginning of the book. As she struggles with her need to write you see her discovering her inner strength. It was nice to see and gives us other hermits a bit of hope. The thrilling ending keeps your eyes glued to the book. I think you will enjoy it.
