I've amassed a modest library of these coffee table type books on design, color, font, etc. I think of them as reference volumes. I usually flip through them once, and then dust starts to collect before the cover gets cracked again. Let's face it. That's the definition of coffee table book. I look at it during commercial breaks, while I'm waiting for the Thai food delivery, and sometimes in the morning before I leave for work—even when I'm late, which is every day. It is pretty but also readable. A one-of-a-kind font reference volume.

I don't think I could ever be disappointed by anything that Steven Heller puts out. Absolutely amazing conglomeration of vintage types and their modern day spin-offs; including great information on the history of the type and its evolution. So inspiring - love me some typography! This book looks at the current design trends that relate to vintage styles. Some of the examples shown include photos of reference designs, but not all of them. Would have been more helpful if the styles featured more example work from history.

it's funny. of all the old resurrected typefaces in this book, only the art deco ones seem played out. it's funny. of all the old resurrected typefaces in this book, only the art deco ones seem played out.

Gorgeous book with excellent examples. A nice bonus: primary font names are included with each description, allowing you to update that font wishlist.

This is a happy addition for typeophiles. A lovely, cool book that's not dry or academic. Three of four book designers at my company own this book. This is a happy addition for typeophiles. A lovely, cool book that's not dry or academic. Three of four book designers at my company own this book.
