Doom and Broom is the second book in the Witches of Coventry series. The feud between Brighton Longfield's family and the Skeenbauer witches continues. All Brighton really wants to do is fix up the home she inherited -- Hangman's House -- and mind her own business. But someone steals her protection amulet leaving her vulnerable to magical attacks. Things get steadily worse. It seems drama and danger are going to be par for the course as she tries to settle into her new life in Coventry! The mix of supernatural, cozy mystery, and humor is entertaining and fun! I like Brighton as a main character and her kitty cat familiar is awesome as well. I listened to the audiobook version of this story. The short length -- just a bit over 4 hours -- makes this book a quick, entertaining listen. I listened while doing housework at home on a Sunday. The story had enough plot and suspense to keep my attention from start to finish, and enough humor to make it a very entertaining, relaxing listen. Rebecca Mitchell did a great job as narrator. Her voice acting skills really bring the characters to life! I can't wait to find out what happens next in this cute, cozy series!

Brighton reports the theft and shows the hottie sheriff the note, but he’s not buying it since Langoria is a well-respected member of the community. Boy, is he blind or what? Anyway, Brighton publicly confronts Langoria about her dastardly deed, so, of course the witch (yep, she’s a real witch) ends up dead later with Brighton the prime suspect. Except, well-respected or not, there’s a long list of people who disliked her. Maybe even enough to kill her. Brighton needs to find the killer before she’s the one doing the time for a crime she didn’t commit. This is a cozy paranormal mystery with twists and turns that will have your head spinning. Metaphorically speaking, of course. Brighton and her familiar Meri are a kick and there’s a bit of romance in the air tossed into the mix. Brighton’s partner in crime, I mean, sleuthing, is Annika Skeenbauer, so at least she has a friend amongst the family enemies. Of which there are apparently quite a lot. I’m not sure how I feel about Remy, another Skeenbauer. He seemed great in the 1st book, but in this one he’s weird. Not sure what’s going on with him. I’m enjoying this series and will continue on with book 3.

Quite a suspenseful story. Who is Langoria Skeenbauer's murderer? There seems to be no clue in sight, the case a dead end... until the scene when that very person turns up on Brighton's doorstep. But then there is that statement about South America and readers are left wondering all over again. It really could be a number of people, even family members based on how on of them is acting. Definitely fun working the mystery out with the character. Hopefully after this event, the stupid witch feud finally ends. And hopefully Brighton figures out what is up with Remy. Rating is due to the following: 1. Every time there is major news, pages upon pages are spent with characters coming and going so Brighton can explain everything over and over until all know what happened. Sometimes the author just states that Brighton relaid the info, but other times readers have to forge through the ramblings of what they already witnessed/learned. 2. That scene where Brighton drinks the elixor and then calls Thorn feels forced, like the author is making sure the secret Brighton fails to keep gets out further while also fixing a hopeless relationship. Plus, it enforces the issue of #1. 3. After Brighton drinks the elixir, everyone she encounters, even Meri, are suddenly pleasant and happy. I figured this had to do with drinking too much elixir because it is super bizarre, but then nothing comes out of it. Eventually, all are back to their normal selves. 4. The characters pop from one place to another in the middle of conversations. I get they are talking about doing something or going somewhere, but they never initiate the actions to get to that point. For example, Karen shows up and says she has flowers for the cemetary, Brighton agrees to the idea and even comments where she will put them, and then the two women are setting the last of the flowers down just like that. 5. There is a scene where Meri tries to convince Brighton to stop the cemetery work for the day. The last thing he says, however, I think is supposed to be Brighton based on what happens next. 6. There is a comment about Thorn always wearing a cowboy hat. I don't recall this being stated before. In fact, when I type it into search, the word cowboy only comes up in chapter 9 of Doom and Broom. I have a box set, by the way. 7. Many errors. Particularly with "I" vs "me". 8. The timeframe issue still bothers me. I can't wrap my head around how Brighton and Kinsley are 30+ years apart and yet apparently grew up with the same experiences and technology. I am trying to tell myself Kinsley is from the future, but I can't imagine life being exactly as it is now 30 years from now.

So all Brighton has to do is convince everyone she is not the woman's murderer, deal with the strange things in the basement, survive the ghost's attack and come to terms with her own abilities. Altogether another good book in the series. My fav character is the cat, by the way.

I would totally recommend this series, start from book 1 for a better picture. I received an ARC and this is my honest review.

I loved the first book in the series and was finally able to grab some time to read the second which was just as good. Once again, Brighton managed to find a dead body, that of one of the rival witches in town. I just love her cat, Meri and how he's able to protect Brighton while she tries to hone her witch skills. Her best friends Annika and her brother Remy had all hung out together in the first book, but something seemed off about Remy this time. A delightfully different spin on the standard cozy mystery! I love that Sara Bourgeois has put such a unique spin on a standard premise in the paranormal cozy mystery genre. Enjoyable read The 2nd book in the series about an adult Brighton starting to come into her powers as a witch in a magical town where the humans have no idea there are witches living amongst them. Meri the familiar cat is amusing with his snarky remarks, a murder to solve and a blossoming relationship between the sheriff and Brighton. Easy reading doesn’t take more than a couple of hours to finish but engaging enough to keep my interest.

The second Book in this great "Witchy" series. This story follows on with more ups and downs of Brighton and her magic cat, more bodies and mysterious happenings. I loved it and it ended way too soon so have to find out where Brighton ends up next an d how her magic powers will strengthen to help her in times of troubles in the next " episode" e.g. book 3. An easy read and full of interesting charvcters. Good fun! The second Book in this great "Witchy" series. Fantastic! Loved this book and how Brighton and the sheriff explored their relationship. When a witch is found dead in the mystery graveyard opposite Brighton's house, it brings about a change in Remy and some secrets to be revealed. It causes a massive change in their friendship which is cause for.concern. I wonder where the story will go for Remy. Interesting read and am eager to read more. Fantastic! Surprised I downloaded this read because it was cheap, I was bored, and I was broke, imagine my surprise when after finishing the first book I was so hooked I had to download the second one,and now here I am done with the second and hoping I can afford the third one. Sara Bourgeois stories are clean, interesting, and addictive, I recommend these reads for young adults and up. Hope you enjoy them as much as I did.

This book is part of a series that is both fun and entertaining. The quirky and crazy characters, ghosts and talking cat are very enjoyable. Living across the street from a cemetery has proven to be quite adventuresome for Brighton. Definitely looking forward to the next book in the series. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I really love the atmosphere the author gives Coventry and the witch families living there. It’s a witchy cozy mystery with a nice dark edge of bad magic and an interesting love triangle possibility. Brighton’s character is chronically impulsive but she has gathered an impressive group of friends to back her up when things get sideways.
