One of the best ever books. The characters in this book are so intriguing. I wasn't real sure about the book in t h e beginning but, I was finally able to get into the story and I was unable to put it down. I took it with me to run errands and such yesterday and today. The idea of the hidden treasure being the driving force behind so many of the murders was so intriguing. I couldn't quite get the reasoning behind such cruelty until the treasure was mentioned on more than one occasion. So I thank One of the best ever books. Plot was good but But I didn't care for all the conversations in italics. One every once in awhile okay but this was all your characters all the time.

FINDING HIS WAY BACK HOME A sad story of many both North and South of the breaking up of families during the The Civil War. That War of Anarchy, it didn't do anything but make both sides hate each other, a sad time during the making of the United States..that was was a hot mess. Abraham Lincoln is assassinated by John Wilkes Booth who belonged to a group of Representatives in Congress, who were angry with Lincoln's powers as President of the United States. This story explains what families went through who lost everything, how the White population were working in tobacco fields WHERE the slaves worked. This again was a hot mess that the South incurred by thinking they continue their way of life which was off the backs of slavery. That type of economic growth wasn't going to last much longer. The characters in this plot were very sad but truthful. A lot carpetbaggers made their way South to add more gasoline to the Fire of discontent to the South. Con-men were involved deeply taking peoples farms, their estates. People suffered terribly as this story points out. It's sad but true, and things do get better as you read this story, but look at the cost the Nation and it's people paid.

Thank God I've finished it. I gave this book one star because Kindle won't let me give none. In addition to the plot being turgid and the chronology of plot and setting confusing, I found this a tedious and condescending read. I am not stupid and neither are most other readers. There is no need to explain each character's thought process in minute (and often contradictory) detail. Most of the italicised prose was wasted. I do not consider this to be historical fiction as such, as there is very little historical accuracy or context. The prose used in speech and narrative contains far too much modern idiom. Rather, it is a quite poorly written attempt at a Western. I would advise the author to conduct a lengthly period of research into both historical context and writing style before attempting another book. I will not be reading any more of Mr Grayson's work.

Lucky me! Downloaded the book for my hubby and ended up reading it for myself. This is an old-fashioned historical western with guns blazing, fights between men and a rancher with a sweet, innocent young lady. Ross Barrow was one of the strong veterans and he headed home to Texas. Thanks for wonderful entertainment and a good read.

On The Path of Vengeance This book was very good and very well written. Ross had such a hard life with the war and all. He had enough problems just to survive trying to get home. When he finally makes it home to find that his mother is ill is bad enough, but to have her die in his arms right after she recognizes him. He has got to find his sister and what happened to his to his brothers and how did they lose their ranch. So many twist and turns. With all that happens to him Falls in love. After reading a brief summary of Austin Graysons novel, and given my love for historical fiction, I felt compelled to read On the Path of Vengeance. The research for this book must have been a daunting task. However, the authors use of interior monologue was a deal breaker. The constant back and forth between live action and the characters thoughts was monotonous. I couldnt help wondering if there were other literary devices that could have been employed to move the storyline along. Action Packed The first few chapters were a little confusing, jumping from one thing to another. Im not sure they were relevant to the story. But once the plot really began to come to light, the story was great. Youll enjoy seeing Ross and Maybelle falling in love and struggle with them along the way. This book kept me reading, trying to find a spot to put it down. The story line had many interesting twists, the characters were well written and the mystery of Ross Barrow's family's change of fortune keeps you reading. Maybelle Shaughnessy was greatly underestimated by her father. Her cleverness added some needed humor to the story. I can recommend this book.

A family destroyed Ross got home from the war to find his family destroyed by a gang of cut throats. The gang worked on the farm his family had owned when he went to war. The new owner did not know of their treachery. A good story line and characters, I personally did not like the profanity.

Stark, raw writing that's entertaining (post Civil War historical). Ross believes his family all dead; yet a young girl's sweet little face looks the image of his ma. Characters were sometimes emotionally engaging and at other times stilted. Reminds me of tv westerns, which l like! (Though this is more bloody and gory. Would like more romantic gestures.)

This story is well written and very graphic. I enjoyed the story, but felt some elements of relationships between the people involved felt a little sterile. The passion between people who loved each other felt less than the hate of a evil and cold man. Otherwise, the plot and story line are excellent.

The plot was well written and well planned and the characters were so strongly written that I was totally engaged as I turned each and every page of this amazing book! This was the first book that I have read by this author, however, it definitely will not be the last!

An adventure I really enjoyed the book, war, family, honesty, sacrifice, united loved ones and love above all. I wish the epilogue would have had some information about Ross and Maybelline as a family. Still a great rwad. Can't wait to read your next book.

Just poor Sorry to say everything about the book is poor. It should be listed under teen romance instead of historical fiction. The only thing historical about it were the civil war battles named.

A good, clean, western romance. Some violence as expected with 'Vengeance' in the title, but mainly about the romance of Ross and Maybelle.
