Book 10 in this well-written, realistic series about California juvenile court attorney Sabre Brown, her bff/law partner, Bob Clark, and Torn, her investigator, deals with child neglect, the wrongfully accused, communication problems, domestic abuse, and parents doing things in front of children that should land them in jail. Conner, JP’s surprise nephew, is accused of murdering an unpleasant character who may have tried to molest Morgan, JP’s niece. Sabre’s side investigation into a man on a dating site who is targeting women with children causes contention between Sabre and JP, and their miscommunication drives a web into their relationship. The author creates a nice balance between explaining what goes on in the juvenile justice system and the central mystery, peopling her stories with dimensional, authentic characters, even the “bad guys.” Sabre, Bob, JP, and the rest of the courthouse regulars seem very real to me. Following along as they try to do what’s best for their young clients while searching for the truth and maintaining personal lives is what keeps me coming back for more. I recommend these be read in order – while you can read them out of order, I find knowing the backstories makes reading the current story much richer and more enjoyable.

This book was awesome! It kept me guessing right from the beginning and the final answer, which wasn’t who I thought it would be. The author did a wonderful job keeping you changing your mind on who did it. There were tons of twists, turns and surprises throughout the whole book. This book deserves 5+ stars for the excitement, mystery, action, storyline and an Uncle who became a parent, not even knowing he was an Uncle. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book in the continuing Advocate series. We see a lot of JP since it is his nephew that is accused of murder. I found it interesting that he enjoyed the responsibility of caring for his niece while the parents fitness was being determined. Sabre helps out even while defending Conner and trying to catch another criminal from a different case. There is a hiccup in JP and Sabre's relationship due to one of them jumping to conclusions that I personally found amusing. If folk I thoroughly enjoyed this book in the continuing Advocate series. Uncle Johnny? JP answers his doorbell late one evening to find a young girl named Morgan looking for her “Uncle Johnny.” Seems her daddy told her if she or her older brother got into a situation they couldn’t handle, to find their uncle, Johnny Torn. Seems her daddy was Gene Torn, JP’s estranged brother. The girl’s older brother Connor was arrested for murder, Gene was in prison, and her mother “partied” when Gene wasn’t home, which seemed to be most of the time. Seems her daddy was Gene Torn, JP’s estranged brother. The girl’s older brother Connor was arrested for murder, Gene was in prison, and her mother “partied” when Gene wasn’t home, which seemed to be most of the time. Attorney Sabre Brown, child advocate and JP’s lady love, along with Bob Clark, Sabre’s best friend, joined forces to find a home for Morgan, free Conner from juvenile hall, and discover who was the true murderer of Bullet, the universally disliked scumbag. I liked the focus on JP in the book. So many JPisms! “Tight as the rusted lug nuts on a ’55 Ford” and “That tastes so good it’ll make your tapeworm stand up and bark.” I didn’t expect the tenderness he showed his niece and nephew; that was a treat. I tasted the flavor of his younger self and family before showing up in Sabre and Bob’s lives. In “The Advocate’s Justice”, author Teresa Burrell weaves an entangling web of families’ love, hate, and indifference, carrying emotional baggage from years past and some not so past, ending with a startling conclusion. This book is a terrific read, difficult to put down (making my nights very short), and certainly a triumph for Teresa. Congratulations, my friend, Teresa. You’ve got an instant classic on your hands!

I love this series, and this was another great one! The case was very interesting, and I loved meeting some of JP's family! There were a few twists and turns to keep things interesting. Sabre and JP's relationship hits a little rough patch, which made it feel more realistic. Can't wait for #11! I love this series, and this was another great one! And the "Love Actually" cards. O-M-G!! Adored that little girl.. Even my heart pulled for Gene a little bit. I did roll my eyes a bit with JP's jealousy - and their relationship really needs to move forward. Just move in Sabre. But I really like it and can't wait for # 11. I hadn't said that in a while for this series.

I really enjoyed this book, there was so many twist and turns as to who the killer was that it kept me hooked. Worse she is there because her brother has just been arrested for murder. Estranged from his brother JP and Sabre are in for a crash course learning about his family as well as trying to find the really killer. It's not long before punches are thrown and suspects pop up as JP tries to track down his missing brother. Sabre also has other cases in court that need her attention but with JP busy she turns to Bob (her work husband and fellow attorney) for help which complicates matters further. Will JP lose his nephew before he even gets to met him? Or will the team come together and find the real killer? The narrator was good and I had no problems telling the characters apart.

Burrell writes in such a bland, evenhanded way, that the true abomination of it all is muted. Stephen King would have transformed this plot into a terrifying horror story. That the kids’ personalities seem totally unscarred by their lowlife family defies belief. The plot has some uninteresting twists and there is too much repetition. But the main problem is the utterly flat writing style and vapid characters.

Family drama is wrapping around J.P. in all sorts of ways. To make matters even more complicated, J.P.’s family drama has spread into Sabre’s professional life. Ms. Burrell is a master storyteller. This story is well-written, entertaining, and romantic mystery. I enjoyed it thoroughly and I highly recommend this book. I am anxious to read the next book of the series.

Sabre and JP are on the case to help JP’s 15-year old nephew, Conner, who is accused of murdering his grandmother’s abusive boyfriend. As background this family drama includes the grandmother, the abusive boyfriend, the parents, Roxy and Gene (JP’s estranged bother) and their children Conner and 10-year old Morgan. Sabre feels certain Conner is not the murderer but the evidence points strongly to him. One of the highlights of this story for me is Morgan. I loved her character! All the characters are so interesting. This is one of my favorite series, especially since it is set in San Diego, my hometown. This is definitely a 5*+ series and is highly recommended.

Good Read// The book was an adequate whodunit. A fifteen year old child is arrested for the murder of an associate of his mother and father. Need I continue? Despite such fitting names and decisions in court that are just not going to happen in real life, the book kept me reading. Thank you, Ms. Burrell, for a good read.

Best in series yet It took me awhile to get this book in the Advocate series and I really enjoyed getting to know Morgan, one of Sabre's young girls needing her help. Interesting read. I thought the characters were very realistic and the story line made sense and reached a logical conclusion. I particularly liked the portrayal of, Morgan, the ten year old girl and her brother, Conner, who was accused of murder. I was hanging on to the edge of my seat to see how this one turned out, and it did not disappoint.

I have been a fan of Teresa Burrell since her first book. I have watched her grow as an author and story teller over the years. I have to say this is my favorite book of hers so far. The story was emotionally engaging and had me caring for each character in a way that I could not stop listening. You can tell her experience in the subject matter come through in her descriptions of each situation. You will love this book as well as her others in this series.

Everyone’s a suspect Mainly because most of the characters are losers. Of course I don’t mean the main characters but all the new characters fit the description. The two children are precious, well-mannered, well-spoken and nice kids in spite of their circumstances. It definitely keeps you wondering who did the killing but the fact that they were letting a 15 year-old boy pay the price is disgusting and sad beyond measure. Don’t hesitate to read the series.

Child advocacy As a lawyer, Sabre deals with many situations involving children and their families. This book gives insight into to problems and issues of a court advocates. Well written, and insightful. The plot runs parallel to other cases and indicates the research and other court assistance a child advocate used. Hard to believe the situations and homes children are raised in; sad commentary on North American families.
