I adored Nicola's debut novel, Breaking the Gladiator, so when I found out she wrote another book and it was about my favorite supernatural being, I knew I had to read it! My vampire love dates all the way back to Buffy or even before that to The Lost Boys and Interview with the Vampire. It's been a long while since I've read a vampire romance, and I'm glad I rectified that. Jess believes she has something to do with her parents dying in a fire, but she can't remember exactly what happened. She lives a fast and reckless life of sex and drugs trying to chase away her demons. When she gets offered a new job on South Padre Island, she decides it's a good time to leave her bad girl ways behind. It doesn't take long for Jess to realize things on the island are not as they appear. Non-stop partying seems to be a way of life for the average resident, but underneath the surface, there is something much more sinister going on. Jess doesn't know exactly what that is, but she knows it has to do with the notorious Elwood brothers, Zac and Alex. Zac is mysterious, broody, and absolutely gorgeous. His brother, Alex, is similiar in the looks department, but he is the "bad boy" of the two. When Alex begins to show an interest in Jess, Zac does not appreciate it. He tries to protect Jess from his brother and those even more dangerous, but she continues to ignore his warnings. You know what they say, if you play with fire, and you're bound to get burned. Taste the Dark is the first book in a new paranormal romance series by Nicola Rose.  There is a prophecy, a mystery, sibling rivalry, betrayl, and plenty of steam. It's a bit slow moving at times, but I think the author was trying to make us feel the frustration mixed with curiousity and self doubt that Jess felt. Jess is strong, free spirited, and a borderline nympho. She can be a bit much at times, but thinking you murdered your own parents and having a mysterious super power might do that to you. I'm interested to see how her character grows in book 2. Zac and Alex reminded me a lot of Stefan and Damon from The Vampire Diaries. Don't get me wrong, they aren't carbon copies of them, but it's the best way to explain their dynamic. Zac tries to be a good guy, but we know that deep down he is the most dangerous of both brothers. Alex reminds me of Damon with his sense of humor, devil may care attitude, and unapologetic personality. If you know me, you know which one was my favorite. ;) Zac has Jess for now, but I wonder if that will change. We see that Alex's interest in her is growing, and there is some attraction from Jess in the mix, too. All in all, it was a satisying start to the series. I feel the need to go find some more vampire romance to read now, because I didn't realize how much I've missed it. If you're a fan of over the top heroines, slow burns, and hot vampire brothers, give this one a try! ARC generously provided by the author for an honest review.

You couldn’t figure out what was coming next for majority of the book. Jess was like every woman’s alter ego- in a sense. I mean, we all want what she was searching for. It was a great addition to the book- Longing for the excitement and attraction of what Zac could bring. The senses that were given off of the vampires around her felt like a living breathing thing. I too, longed for Zac and Alex (maybe even Leon. I mean he sounded dreamy #amiwright). Alex is an addition that I adored! Zac doesn’t trust him for reasons we are not even acquainted with yet. Something in me wants to trust him though. Is it the want for him to be a bit compassionate or is he really as evil as Zac claims he is? (I need book two Nicola). All in all, the book felt very original and I was enthralled in the story. There were a few times that it felt very Twilight-ish but it turned around almost as soon as I noticed it. I’m excited for this author to bring more with the next book and see how this story pans out. The Bael is very intriguing and this series could be epic. Happy Reading Peeps, Nic x Description One reckless girl and two vampire brothers – battling forces of love over lust, and light over dark… Jess I was 15 years old when our family home exploded in an atomic fashion, killing my parents. Thanks to convenient amnesia, I was left wondering what the hell happened, but without any doubt that I somehow caused it. Cue years of flitting from one disaster to another, generally involving alcohol, drugs and bad boys. My new job on South Padre signified a turning point – time to sort myself out. What I hadn't anticipated was the 6ft package of brooding, inked-up perfection who started stalking me. And don’t even mention the equally hot brother crawling under my skin… They radiate danger, it flows around them like a seductive spell; and danger is my favourite word. Zac I was doing a pretty good job at balancing on the fine line between light and dark, blurring the edges and living in the grey. But then dead vampires started piling up around me and the Bael gave me a ticking countdown to fix it. Now she’s arrived. Four seconds – the moment I saw her – that's how long it took to know that she’d simultaneously bring heaven and hell to my door. I don't even know what she is, but I know I crave her. Falling for a human girl has left me teetering on the verge of collapse. This could be just the ammo my brother needs to nudge me over the edge and into oblivion. Taste the Dark is a full-length paranormal romance, intended for adult audiences. Expect a lot of heat and a little darkness, because romance isn’t always sweet... Book one in the Elwood Legacy series.

Such is the way with vampires." - There was mystery in the South Padre Island, the two brothers - yes two freaking hot vampire brothers - had their rule over the island & Jess discovering everything & the vampire secret while hiding some of her own was quite a show, that arose drama & entertainment filled with fury, anger & love. - "I’ve spent my life drowning in a sea of boys, barely staying afloat, their weakness dragging me under… but here stood a man, ready to show me how to swim. “Or die trying,” " - Jess was the known to find herself in crazy situations. First of all the playlist included at the start of this novel is awesome, secondly I did enjoy this novel. I found it a highly entertaining read although there were some aspects to it that didn’t quite knock my socks off. Let me get those points out of the way first and then I’ll tell you why I enjoyed this novel. 1) Zac is a total wimp to me, he seems like I received a kindle version of this book (and it’s sequel Burn The Dark) from the author in exchange for an honest review (thank you Nicola). First of all the playlist included at the start of this novel is awesome, secondly I did enjoy this novel. I found it a highly entertaining read although there were some aspects to it that didn’t quite knock my socks off. Let me get those points out of the way first and then I’ll tell you why I enjoyed this novel. 1) Zac is a total wimp to me, he seems like a bad boy but he’s lacking the balls that require him to successfully pull that off. 2) Jess really needs to get her shit together, yes she’s a fun, bad ass character and all and the only reason watching her go after Zac (and subsequently watching these two go back and forth with each other) isn’t boring AF is because Nicola is an excellent author and both Jess and Zac are full bodied multi-faceted characters. It’s actually kind of sweet watching Jess get pissed off with Zac. I did find myself rolling my eyes at Zac because he’s got the whole “I want to kill you….. I can’t stay away from you” excuse going on. So here’s what I LOOVVVEDD about the novel: Anna and Alex. HOLY FUCKING SHIT!! Both these characters are EVERYTHING to me, I loved them so much, Anna is such a sweet, spunky, curvy little nerd that you’d have to be heartless to not fall in love with her, from her loyalty and friendship with Jess to her punny sarcastic one liners (I’m a sucker for those), she is a totally relatable wonderful character (and yes, I sobbed hysterically when Alex killed her), and Alex (again, HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!! I keep saying that but it perfectly expresses how I feel) DAMN, as soon as Jess (and I ) set eyes on him I was like “NOW THAT'S WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT!!” He is a bad boy with no bullshit excuses and that’s why I love him. Sure, he’s evil, but at least he embraces it, and is honest, unlike Zac. There’s also a hint of something deeper going on with him and it makes me wonder what he’s hiding/feeling, like maybe he has a sensitive side too hiding underneath all that delicious evilness. And even though I’m firmly against the idea of having a book boyfriend Alex made me what to reconsider that (I’m not gonna lie, he’s got everything I tend to fall hard for…..I won’t comment further on that since I’m pretty sure I’m not alone here). The fact that I love him so much is evident in the fact that I COULDN”T be mad at him for murdering Anna (I WANTED to hate him so much, but at the same time, I was admiring his principles, I mean Anna was still a traitor even though it wasn’t her fault…..that was definitely a mind-fuck/wtf moment for me, and I live for books that give me those). I also really loved the ending. I didn’t see the whole William situation coming and it was both fast paced and epic and thoroughly enjoyable. I also really loved Danny (not as much as Anna but I found he was a very comforting character in the book, kind of like a big cuddly teddy bear sitting on a shelf, his presence was needed only when necessary but even in the scenes he wasn’t in it was nice to have him in the book, he is a strong, reliable solid character who, to me, is equally important as Anna as far as the whole “best friend character” thing goes ), I really loved the family dynamic between Danny, Jess, and Anna, the fact that they are like siblings and care very deeply for each other, they are a family of misfits that fit well together because they love each other. And like any family they tease the shit out of each other and that’s always fun to watch. I will be honest in saying that I was seriously pissed off at Jess for choosing Zac over Alex (but not pissed enough to not be happy that he was technically single because then he’s book boyfriend available, nothing kills a book crush faster for me than a guy whose taken, it’s a principle of life that holds strongly in my imagination too for some weird reason). So even though I didn’t give it an out of this world rating I still want to highly recommend it to lovers of supernatural romance, the excellent writing and characters alone are worth it. Also I got through this entire review without referring to that emo drivel known as Twilight simply because you can’t compare the two, Taste The Dark outshines, outruns and outdoes Twilight on every single level (in writing style, plot and characters) and is far more entertaining as well. Whether you loved, hated or are indifferent (like I am) to the Twilight saga, Taste The Dark is the novel that everyone should be looking to if they want to read a really good vampire novel. (side note: I’ve read the Twilight saga TWICE and I STILL don’t understand what all of the fuss is about, there weren’t enough things in it for me to love but I didn't completely hate it either). Another Side note: I’m posting this review having read it’s sequel Burn The Dark, but I wrote this review before I had done so.

Dark, dangerous & sexy Ohh, Zac is ALL you expect from a vampire with a moral code, al a Angel but with more angst. His twin brother is like the worst possible version of the twins, like Spike (with his obsession of Jess). Then there is Jess: a confused, thrill seeking loner who can’t stay away. These characters are complex and appealing, they are deep and thoughtfully developed. The story grabbed me and I couldn’t let go. Can’t wait to read books two and three. I did like the story, but it did seem to drag on a lot longer than I thought necessary. Yes, everything did have it's place, but it was a long story. This story also has a bit of darkness in it too. Drinking, drugs, sleeping around, angst galore, and cheating (or at least it looked like cheating), you go through a lot of emotions. The characters are well written and the story line was good. The end was fast pace and exciting. Jess has moved to be near her friends Anna and Danny. If there is a right way of doing things and a wrong way, she goes for the wrong way. She goes for the Bad Boys, until it hurts. The last one got her on drugs and drinking and threatened to kill her. So she left and is getting a job as a fireman with Danny. Of course this is the Spring Break island in Texas and it is spring break time, so it is party time. And of course Jess has to attract two of the worst bad boys on the island. Oh, and they are twins. Zac is the 'good' twin. As a vampire, he keeps everything on the down low. He only feeds on murderers and so do everyone in his Cell. Of course with being the good version of a vampire, he is also quite moody He fights the darkness inside even when he lives on the good side. He sees Jess and he can't take his eyes off her. He keeps his eyes on her all the time, no matter where she is or what she is doing. If she approaches him, he disappears. She is the human that he is drawn to so he fights it. Alex is Zac's twin, but they have different eyes. And of course Alex has a happy and cheerful disposition. He lives life to the fullest that a vampire can do. He has parties all the time with drugs, drinking and clothing optional. Yes, he has more clean up than every, blood is hard to get out of carpets. He is also drawn to Jess but not like Zac. Alex is jealous that Zac was gifted with a Legacy that he felt should have come to him since he is stronger. He keeps messing with Jess, getting into her head and such. Anything to bother his twin. If he looses control, it will activate the Legacy and Alex will also get gifted with strength. It keeps going back and forth with Jess and Zac because Jess is a nympho and Zac won't get intimate. He is afraid that if they do, he will kill her. He is addicted to her blood, even though he hasn't had any yet. They fight every day but they can't seem to stay away from each other. This is the thing that I couldn't understand. Either be together or don't, don't drag it out and hurt each other along the way. Oh well. The story does get fast paced at the end, and it doesn't quite leave you with a cliffhanger, but I am sure we want to know what goes on with their relationships from here. This is the first book I have read by Nicola Rose and I must say I am quite impressed. I love the dynamic that she has created - lots of love, angst, frustration and so much more. Then she meets Mr tall dark and moody (Zac) who also happens to be a vampire and is at odds and bt this I mean really hates and is kinda at war with his twin brother Mr Psycho ( Alex). Jess is Drawn to danger and falls for Zac but in a weird way also likes Alex. Throw a human into a Vampire world and all sorts of dangers come out of the woodwork so there is a lot of Action. Plenty of sex but be warned some of it could be classed as abuse so if this is a trigger for your please don't read. This a really well written storey that draws you in so that you are completely immersed in their world. Dark in places but not dark for the sake of being dark - it works where it is used. Brilliant concept and I loved the danger and suspense.

There is a Vampire Diaries vibe to this aspect of the story. It was a case of how dark is too dark in your chosen love interest. Well, I know whose team I'm on. This is a lengthy read and a little slow moving, but the story is just as important as the romance. Book two is out soon, so there is no need to twiddle our thumbs waiting for more from Jess and Zac.

I tasted the dark and I need more! Hot vampire twin brothers, action, lust, blood, romance, a well thought out story that pulls you in and grips you from page one. What's not to love? I'm kicking myself that it took me so long to get to this book. Taste the Dark has been sitting in my TBR pile for ages. If it's in yours, bump it straight to the top. If it's not already on your list, get it on there. Make this your next read! If anyone needs me I'll be buried in book two... I tasted the dark and I need more! Wow this was a good story. The author provided some world building and character development. Rate 4 and half star due to it being somewhat slow at times but overall a good read. I received a free copy of this book and submit my opinion for your review.

While I had trouble connecting with Jess, I really enjoyed this crazy read. Jess was just a little too out there with her sluttyness for me in the beginning. She was really just all about sex constantly. However, the rest of the elements in the story and her other atributes made up for it. It was packed full of mystery, crazy bloody scenes, sexy men, and action. I liked it a lot. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I enjoyed this book. It was well written. The characters of Jessica and Zac were written really well. Their relationship reminds me a bit of like twilight. Alex aggravated me alot. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

They’re servants of the moon but they decide to live in a place where the sun is super exposed. The events move pretty quickly. Everything we need to see (that mattered) on the island was shown. Sometimes it reminds me of Twilight, sometimes Fifty Shades of Grey (Not the sexual activities of the book. You’ll know what I mean when you read it.). No one (that mattered) was unattractive, they’re very distracting as you read on. (hahaha!) If you’re a fan of paranormal romance with attractive characters then this one’s for you. His face was so beautiful, it wasn’t fair. C H A R A C T E R S Most of the characters in this book has an issue or two, people got problems! I’m not even sure if I’m team Zac or team Alex because Alex has got this fvck boy attitude but I believe deep down he’s a decent guy (or vampire). Zac Elwood I get emotional whiplash from Zac because he’s like Katy Perry’s song Hot N Cold. One moment he’s sweet and attempts to be romantic and the next he’s in a raging fit. He gets mood swings more than a girl in her period! He does keep a lot of secrets and is barely open minded. However, he does make an effort to act as human as possible around Jess. My delicious, mesmerizing, intriguing, sexy-as-sin stalker. Jess Layton Where do I begin with Jess?! She’s acts before she thinks, she doesn’t seem like she’s afraid of anything. I was first torn between her and her best friend Anna, but soon I realized I’m more Jess because I only want to talk about my problems and not my friend’s. (haha! Yes I’m selfish like that!) However, she’s always thinking about sexual activities, she can’t help it though. I wonder what it’s like to constantly think about sex. W R I T I N G Written in the point of views of Zac and Jess, but mostly Jess. And Jess has the best comments to anything that either needs or doesn’t need a comment. I love how they’re not the usual vampires we come to know. (You have to read to know what makes them different.) Nicola Rose knows how to write super steamy scenes, no matter how short a scene it gets to you. Ugh. Praise. His embrace tightened, but it felt like I’d lost him. O V E R A L L Zac has got so many secrets and shit’s about to go down in book 2 and I just cannot wait to see all the blood and gore! The ‘vampire government’ is now after them and who knows how many deaths we’ll be seeing. Some people believe there’s a monster in all of us. That it sits there, hiding and dormant, and that under certain circumstances it may be released. Sometimes instances out of our control set it raging free, other times we choose to let it out. Some of us are better at keeping it locked down. Others fail to contain it at all.

I really enjoyed this book. I’ve read tonnes of vampire books and this is original and not like every other story. There were some predictable aspects of the story but some unexpected twists as well. If you love vampire stories this one is a must!

Well, thankfully that is exactly what this author delivered! Zac is complete alpha, sexy and domineering, yet really good hearted and sweet too. He constantly is fighting the Beast in himself and trying to hold it back. Alex is his twin brother, who is the exact opposite of Zac and doesn’t even try to fight his evil darkness. Jess is the adrenaline junkie, the one that always goes for the bad guys and bad choices, anything for the rush. But between these three, there are a lot of interesting things going on. The author leads us on this journey where there are twists and turns around every corner. Just when you think things are calming down, BAM...some other craziness happens! There were times when things got a little repetitive and parts that were a little slow moving for my taste, but I understand this is just part 1 of the story, and it did get better as the story developed so I thoroughly enjoyed this read! Now, I’m just wondering how soon it will be when I can get my hands on book 2 because I need answers and more of my vampires!!!

Nicola Rose does it again! Hooked from the start. I absolutely LOVE her writing style. I'm never bored, the characters are fun to read, the dialogue between the characters flow perfectly. Everything feels real, of course aside from the vampires and magic. Jess, who meets two mysteries brothers, one, just slightly more of a bad boy . . . or is he? She also finds there may be something special about herself, as she's drawn into this war between each of the brothers clans (Cells). The story has a lot Nicola Rose does it again! She isn't the meek female victim that you see a lot of books today. I'm really excited to dive into the second book in the trilogy, which I'm going to start tonight.

It seems to be the month for PNR! (Paranormal Romance) up until recently I hadn't read anything within this genre and all of a sudden I had read a shifter & Vampire romance!

The Elwood brothers have you roped in whether you like it or not. The good looks, the dark, vampire lure has you literally between their teeth. The slow burn had me drooling over my kindle. I need book two ASAP.

Jess is a messed up party girl, who travels to South Padre Island to escape her problems and be closer to her best friend Anna but runs into trouble when she comes across vampire Zac Elwood and his twin brother Alex. These tattooed bad boys are everything she is trying to avoid but she’s drawn to danger and can’t help herself. I love vampires. I have since I discovered Buffy The Vampire Slayer at the age of twelve, but I don’t often read vampire fiction so when I spotted this book on Instagram I Jess is a messed up party girl, who travels to South Padre Island to escape her problems and be closer to her best friend Anna but runs into trouble when she comes across vampire Zac Elwood and his twin brother Alex. I have since I discovered Buffy The Vampire Slayer at the age of twelve, but I don’t often read vampire fiction so when I spotted this book on Instagram I thought I’d give this book a read. If you’re looking for a sweet supernatural romance, this not the book for you. It’s dark, twisted, violent and very steamy, I was actually a little shocked when I first started reading it! There was not a dull moment in this book. It had thrill, spills and a hint of mystery and magic with a fresh take on steamy romance. Also the vampire in this story are real monsters, which I appreciate, not the slightly watered down version we’ve been getting over the past ten years or so. Okay it’s going to get a lot of comparisons to other novels/TV series. There’s the love triangle from the Vampire Diaries and it’s got the dark, twisted overtones of True Blood (there’s even a little Twilight vampire trying to ignore the monster inside in there but I’m not going to dwell on that too much). Nicola has created some really troubled characters who you really root for, like Zac who’s trying to fight the beast inside him or Jess the wild, suicidal, bad girl who wants to change her ways. Then there was some you’d like to give a good slap to, especially Alex, Zac’s twin brother. I have to also point out here that this is a self published novel and I have to say it is so well written and edited, it could rival a book published by a traditional publisher. I have to be honest I’m not a fan of bad boys and this book hasn’t really changed my opinion but it came awfully close to converting me to a bad boy lover. Overall a must for fan of steamy romances and bad boys.
