This is a cute little board book about hibernating animals. The spare text and appealing pictures make this a book that will likely be enjoyed again and again by the youngest of readers. There's a little explanation about hibernation at the end, but for the most part, the concept is shown through the illustrations and text. Recommended to young children, especially those who like books about animals. Thank you to NetGalley and Muddy Boots for providing a digital ARC. Too empty for me! Some might think it's cute, and it might actually be, but I love children book, even picture book for very young child like this one, to have a bit more contents or a positive message in it, or at least be very funny. 4.5 stars. This is a cute story about hibernating animals. It takes place in a forest and shows eight different animals in their homes/burrows etc. and what it will look like when they wake up. Absolutely gorgeous illustrations full of colour and detail. The simple text explains what the animals are doing and what they wake up to. I love this little story and think it would make a great bedtime book as well as a good story to use when teaching about hibernation. A great addition to a family libr 4.5 stars. This short picture book has beautiful art but is not strong on science. The book features 10 animals, insects and other creatures hibernating with a couple of lines about each. Dream peacefully, queen bee, safe in the tree stump. Wake up when the flowers are blooming. Several times when I was reading this to my daughter, the science seemed wrong. For instance, the bears are shown hibernating together with what seems to be a mama, two young cubs, and one yearling or older cub. My understanding is that bears chase off their young before mating because the males will often kill them. Once the mother has chased them off (typically at about a year and a half, I believe), she won't have anything to do with them again. While she may hibernate with a yearling, she would not have two different ages of cubs with her since during mating she would have to be solitary already. It looks nice to have a whole "bear family" hibernating, but that just wouldn't happen as far as I know. The bees were another instance. I didn't think bees hibernated in tree stumps and looked it up, and most hibernate in the the soil, in hives, or in other structures. It looks like carpenter bees might hibernate in a tree stump, but they are all black and not black and yellow like the bee pictured. Also, the animals are all shown emerging in what looks like full on summer, with green grass everywhere and flowers blooming. Some could say this is just a picture book and it doesn't need to be very accurate, but I prefer to teach my kids correct science from the start. These images stay with kids as they grow and form the basis of their formation of their knowledge about science topics, so I would prefer to see a little more accurate depictions. And it may be that the author/illustrator (I think it is one person) knows more than I do about these topics, but so little information is given (even the end pages only summarize that some animals "sleep until spring and then wake up again") that it doesn't seem likely. Still, this is a lovely book with beautiful art. Kids are likely to enjoy it. I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for the purpose of review.

What I really love about the book is the illustrations. They are truly beautiful and captivating for children and adults alike. The book is short, simple and few on words. This gives it a calming effect. I don’t find the text to have what I would consider a natural flow. I think with very young children this would be a fine book. For older toddlers and above I think it to be too simplistic. Overall it is a nice book with beautiful illustrations but isn’t a “must have” for me. This delightful board book created by the author of "Goodnight Seahorse" is a wonderful introduction to hibernation as ten different forest critters prepare for "bed." Goodnight, Forest is a book all about hibernating animals. The illustrations in Goodnight, Forest are beautiful! The colors and the pictures were my favorite part. I think my toddler would also love looking at the illustrations. While the illustrations kept my attention, the wording of the book didn't flow easily to me. It's not a book I could see my toddler wanting to read over and over or being able to repeat the words like she does with other books. I requested and received an advanced reading copy of this book from NetGalley. I liked the illustrations in this book, the colours were beautiful, and the images would be appealing to small children. The book itself was quite simple and could be used to teach small children how to read. It was not my favourite children's book, but I would borrow it from a library and read it with or to a small child. #GoodnightForest #NetGalley I requested and received an advanced reading copy of this book from NetGalley. This is a children's book about animals sleeping in the forest and when they would wake up. Overall, it was a good book but not one I could see reading to my young children over and over again. 2.5. I think this would be sweet enough as a board book. That being said it’s nothing new (goodnight stories, simple nature stories are super common if you read literature for young humans like I do) but the colors are nice. I wish it had a bit more. Thank you to the publishers and Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Cute illustrations, but nothing I haven't seen before as far as the text goes. It is similar to many other books about hibernation, and unfortunately, the illustrations aren't enough to set it apart. Cute illustrations, but nothing I haven't seen before as far as the text goes.
