The WITCHES OF PALMETTO POINT is a fun, fluffy series that centers on family, food, and good southern manners. In book #7 the author finally introduces some people of color. Doing it so late in a series is sorting of grating, but this is probably a personal thing. I've read this series in a fairly short time span and with CAPTIVE SOULS I finally had to take a break... or three. One of the problem with obsessive reading is that any shortcomings, however small, will come to light. In this case I had to come up for air from the literary rut the book and I were in. This is not to say that there weren't some real developments in this book. I mean Charlie and her mother-in-law actually speak civilly to one another and Penny (the ghost chicken) helps save the day. Fun, fast read.

It just keeps getting better and better! I love this series because I feel like I am so attached to this family of southern witches and their diverse group of friends and loved ones. It’s all about family, love, loyalty, and spreading light. Oh yeah and also some great home cooking!

Three names come to mind reading this one: Stephen King, Danny Torrance and the True Knot. Having read and seen both the book and movie, "Doctor Sleep," I have to say old Steve ends "Doctor Sleep" better, even if basically the same end results occur in "Captive Souls." Ms. Wang is in such a hurry to finish the story, she breezes past those final plot details. The bad guys get what they deserve, but it's ... rushed ... the aftermath never detailed. You never even get to see Rudy and Jacob being hauled off after they're defeated. (Sorry for the spoiler. What, you thought Charlie wouldn't prevail?) With old Steve's penchant for detail, you just know he'd do better justice to the finale, adding as many extra pages and paragraphs as he felt it needed to be. I wish Wendy Wang wasn't in so damn much of a hurry to get done. Couldn't she at least have spent a few extra minutes to let Charlie head back to her cell to retrieve her new kitten, instead of it just being obvious she did so after the fact?

This story adds more dimension and another scary situation to the previous good stories and brings in two new, talented people to the cousins’ coven, Darius the herbalist, acupuncturist, necromancer and his tarot reading sister. I am delighted to see characters of color brought into in this Southern witches group. This story takes us on another dangerous and mysterious journey to rescue a little girl who has been abducted by a bad magical group and is now trying to capture Charlie who is working to find her. I couldn’t put this book down and kept reading well past my bedtime to see what happens next. I was sorry to see the Chrystal ball get smashed to pieces but after those scary ghosts used it as a portal I would have smashed it too. It did make me wonder if there are real people who are able to do scrying or if it’s always been a circus act since the Chrystal ball has been part of magical culture for centuries. The author sometimes describes the history of certain practices or rituals and this is one of those times I would have liked to hear about that. I absolutely love the ghost of Penny, the chicken, who now stands guard in the house, was happy about the introduction of Poe, the black kitten and gentle Tom is still one of my favorite characters. This whole series, especially as Charlie teaches her son Evan about his innate, empathic abilities, has made me wonder about white witches and their long history to the point that I looked up what Wiccans actually do and believe and was startled to discover that I had so much in common with them. Their love of nature and devotion to the environment, herbs and healing and so much more. This series, with its many mysteries, plot twists, character interactions and dialogue that feel so real, is such a joy. Many thanks to the author for giving me so many pleasurable days and evenings during this depressing time of COVID.

Captivating addition to the series. Lots of advancement with characters, their powers and two new additions added to the “family”. I didn't want to put this down once I started. Everyone gets involved in the hunt from her cousins and their men, the Defenders of Light and the new additions brother and sister Darius and Tomeka who are practice their own magic. Another absolutely thrilling adventure with Charlie and her magical family! Wendy Wang has done it again! Another exceptional addition to the Witches of Palmetto series! Vivid characters that feel like old friends, wildly exciting plot with lots of twists and galore and like always a great ending. Suspense filled paranormal read I have enjoyed each book in this series but this one by far was the best yet! I love the development of the characters and can't wait to see how Evan grows into his power. I also think the job that Charlie accepted will open up several interesting aspects for the series. The addition of Poe was great. Another great read provided by my Kindle Unlimited subscription. This was my favorite one in this series!! Absolutely loved having Charlie getting a familiar. Little Poe is perfect! Hope to read more about him in the future books. And he had some important parts in the story lines. This was a wonderful addition to the series! Full of action and extremely riveting. Couldn't seen to put it down for long. Solid series This series held together by magic and strong family ties. Each character is fully developed and I found myself getting emotional for them. My only pet peeve is the amount of unnecessary detail that the author adds. Personally, I don't need all of the excessive details. Some I have to skip over because they go on way too long for me. Otherwise, I love the series and have enjoyed being a part of Charlie's journey of self discovery. Solid series This series held together by magic and strong family ties. I really enjoyed this book. My one criticism would be that I wish the author would put less focus on food. It is prominently featured in all of her books and I personally find it a little too much. I enjoy the mystery and paranormal and am not interested in pies, cakes, etc. I understand how that impacts Jen, in the story, but I think there could be less emphasis on it. It detracts from the story and makes it drag a little. This is the main reason I only rated it four stars.

Awesome!!! I think this book may be my favorite in the series, so far! I loved how everybody joined forces to save Charlie! I loved how the characters Tomeka & Darius came back for this story, and helped finding Charlie with their special gifts! I also loved how Tom revealed that he bonded himself to Charlie after their initial "first time" together! And who can't enjoy the cuteness of Poe??!!! Keep hope alive The search for Keeley is getting intense, she feels helpless, frightened and alone. There is something blocking Charlie from connecting with Keeley again Charlie, her family, Tom, Ben, Cameron welcome 2 witches into their fold, with their help and the help of the DOL, will they be to save her? Will they be to late? Charlie is determined and focused, but her focus makes her blind to things transpiring around her. Enjoy your reading! Blessings l

Wow. What can I say that I haven't already said in my other reviews about this series!!. I can't express in words how much I loved this book. It was exciting from the start. And there was a lot of mixed emotions all the way through to the end. I didn't want the book to end! I absolutely love there's books. I love reading about Charlie and her family. If I could give this book a more then a five start I would! Can wait to read book 8!! Wow. What can I say that I haven't already said in my other reviews about this series!!. Wonderful! Wendy Wang provides another fantastic book in The Witches of Palmetto series!! We follow Charlie through an investigation to find the missing children.... lots of action in this book.... big changes are coming for Charlie, and I sense a bit of foreshadowing with the taro cards.... will this new position be good for her?

Another Great Story! Wendy Wang's Witches of Palmetto Point series just keeps getting better and better. The story of Keeley is loosely attached to book 6 although Book 7 stands alone too. Again, southern dialect bad Author really needs to spend more to.e LISTENING to real southerners talk. We all don't use 'ya"ll' in every sentence. Story again ended abruptly with all loose ends tied up in one page. Author is not limited to any page or word count. This story suffers from a lack of good suspense. Keep trying, author. Lots of suspense This storyline had moments the suspense was so intense it made me pace around the room. Charlie is determined to find Keeley no matter what it takes to do it. I hope the DOL doesn't turn out to be bad guys in disguise. Tom and Charlie are by far my favorite characters in this series. Evan plays some important parts in this book. Ohhh this one was so suspenseful!! And also hilarious. With every book I fall more and more in love with the whole family. I might have a teensy tiny crush on Tom, too. ;) this series goes from strength to strength, the only issue with this one is that the end was wrapped up a bit too quickly and there was no mention of Poe anymore!!

Another great combo of spooky and mystery. I love the characters in this series and while I’m not sure I agree with the romantic pairings, I am glued to the story lines, character interactions and the creepy mystery factors. I’m looking forward to the next book.

Fun quick read. I wish the author was more consistent in the writing.. First 3/4th of the book is heavy on descriptive details and it can drag a little. Then all a sudden the mystery is solved in like 2 pages! Boom, book over!
