Further, he intermittently summarizes all the clues and evidence that made it easier for me to follow Jarvis on his perilous journey without any hiccups. The story flows smoothly to culminate in an explosive climax that also ties up all the loose ends. It is recommended for fans of mystery, action and sleuth tales. My Blog

This book can be read as standalone book or as part of the series. It does mention some characters from the previous books. But you should still be able to follow the story and enjoy it without reading the others as I did. Jarvis is back on a case again when he unexpectedly meets up with some old friends. Some of them not so pleasant. I enjoyed reading this. It’s very action packed with a lot of twists and turns. Some I didn’t see coming. Reviewed by Jennifer

Mann in the Crossfire: A Jarvis Mann Hardboiled Detective Mystery Novel by R. Weir is about a private detective named Jarvis Mann who gets assignments into the underworld such as following wealthy men who cheat on their wives and gang members who accept hit jobs for people to disappear or be bumped off. Like a James Bond book, the detective is surrounded by shameless beauties, women who seduce in order to win at strategizing or thwarting Jarvin’s investigative work. Carnal thoughts and attitudes run rampant through the book, a man’s mind full of curves, breasts and legs as he struggles to break destructive chains from the past. There are women who will not hesitate to shoot the investigator in the act of sex or knife him in the throes of paid seduction. Dangerous sex, dangerous thoughts, not your typical romantic suspense. This is a book full of mysterious comings and goings, tough cops, gangs, nasty fights, and relentless danger on-the-go. The dialogue in the book is filled with spicy sarcasm and humorous bantering that pushes the plot forward. The descriptions of time and place are well-done, creating an ambience of adventure and fast-paced changes throughout the book. A final proofread would bump up this book’s excellence. Mann in the Crossfire . . . is a book that excites the senses and challenges assumptions about law and order. At times nasty, at times endearing, this book will not let down readers in search of adventure into the underworld, a place where normalcy stands on its head and danger lurks around every corner.

Yes, Mann is back! I am a huge fan of Private Detective Jarvis Mann. I am an even bigger fan of his creator, R Weir, so I was very excited and honored to read this new story, Mann in the Crossfire. I like how the story starts out, Mann just serving divorce papers to an angry cheating-husband, but it sets the stage for what may come next. I'll leave it like that, and I definitely enjoyed this story, full of action, adventure and definite quips and quirks of Jarvis Mann. I'm also very glad that Melissa is still in his life, and I wonder about his connection with April. What's the best part of the story is that it's about the case, but not just about his case. An on-the-edge of your seat read, a definite page-turner, until the very end.

Mann in the Crossfire in Book 8 in the Jarvis Mann Detective 8 series. While I do think this could be a stand a lone I highly recommend you read the other books in the series prior to reading this book as I feel you'll just get a deeper appreciation for this book if you do as so many characters from previous books revisit. The ending has you wondering if Jarvis is going to be hanging up his detective gloves...

I received a free copy of this book and opted to share a review. There is loads of action in this book, which definitely support the author's decision to categorize it as a thriller/suspense. Jarvis continues to evolve as a character and he's not the tail-chasing ladies man anymore. This made it easier for me to like him as a character and feel bad when his life was endangered or he was getting his butt kicked. Weir continues to impress with his ability to put a fresh, contemporary spin on noir detective novels, while still keeping some of the elements the genre is known for. There are a few gut-wrenching, didn't-see-it-coming plot twists and an unexpected ending that will make you wonder if Jarvis has decided to call it quits, without shutting down the possibility of his story continuing later on. If you like noir detective novels, you'll enjoy Weir's spin on the genre. I found it riveting from beginning to end and I'm curious to see if Jarvis will make a comeback. You should also know that while it's possible to read this book by itself without being totally lost, you'll find the experience more enjoyable if you've read the books in order. ** I just want to note that I am dealing with a lot of personal issues lately, and that's why it took me four days to read this book. Otherwise, I would have finished this in a day, day-and-a-half at most. **

Jarvis Mann is at it again, but this time he's headed to California. When an old friend and business associate, Garrett or Rocky (as we knew him by both names) is killed in a boat fire, Mann finds himself in Cali promising to help find his killer. Mann has to figure out if this was his friend that's dead and not another faked death and he has to stay alive long enough to solve the crime. As Mann hunts the trail, the danger is greater than ever, and the stakes are higher than they ever have been. Jarvis Mann is at it again, but this time he's headed to California. #8 and Jarvis Mann is still my favorite private detective. Author, Weir has created more gritty storylines that kept me on edge and full of fear for Jarvis. Did he really not dodge the bullets this time? Gotta read ‘Mann in the Crossfire’ it is the best. With all the dangerous happenings, there is still time for Alice and I’m so jealous, Jarvis is having serious feelings for her. I’m ready for book #9! in this must read series.

I have so enjoyed reading all of the Jarvis Mann Detective novels that Randy has written. They are just so good and Jarvis is a man that I fell in love with while reading the first book. I fear that this is the last book in the series although I sure hope not. This has been such a wonderful series . Randy hit a grand slam with this novel!

Mann heads to San Diego on an investigation, and he faces more collective danger than he ever has before at the hands of a seedy criminal element. When he’s beaten down, is he truly out? This is a must read to see if Jarvis Mann can survive this ultimate challenge against a collective criminal evil. This is another 5-star suspenseful nail-biter from R.Weir.

I’m a long-time fan of R. Weir’s Jarvis Mann series. I love this hard-boiled detective that brings to mind the classic gumshoe detective movies starring actors like Humphrey Bogart. I have to say, that in Mann in the Crossfire, Jarvis is not quite the tough P.I. who readers have come to know and love. He is a bit loquacious and existential. What could that mean for his future? In this latest series installment, author Weir pulls in most of the key characters from prior books. He incorporates them into a complex mystery that crosses multiple state lines. If you haven’t read the previous books, the thorough presentation of characters from Jarvis’ past is helpful. Just like Warren Zevon’s song, this book is all about lawyers, guns and money. Through the arms and drug deals, the gangs and conspiracies, Jarvis works his magic. Using connections and analytical skills he eventually delivers justice. I loved that Jarvis has found his match in April, and that he finally sees that he needs to stop his womanizing ways to ultimately be happy. April truly is a good woman, and the perfect match for Jarvis. I think this is the first book in the series where Jarvis didn’t lose his girlfriend because of a late night temptation! The other notable difference is that even though Jarvis is confident about his ability to fend off an attack, his age is starting to show as he has multiple injuries that require R&R before he can resume work on the case. During these periods of recuperation, Jarvis’ existential angst is front and center. If I was a detective, his meaning of life ponderings should have clued me into what was coming, but I completely shocked by the surprising, albeit apropos, ending! I am looking forward to how this twist will affect Jarvis’s future and what author R. Weir has in store for his readers. I received an advanced copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review. For more reading recommendations, visit Book Junkie Reviews at www.abookjunkiereviews.wordpress.com

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. This one was a great book I like how it ended with Jarvis about to open his new restaurant. I liked how all the other cases tired together at the end. Mentioning Aaron Bailey (Dead Man Code #5), Simon Lions (The Front Range Butcher #7), Emily (Tracking A Shadow #2). That was a great twist to have. There is more I would like to mention, but I don't want to spoil it to much for people who have not read it. Man in the Crossfire is everything you want to read when it comes to Jarvis Mann. With every book of this series, things just keep getting better and better. I was completely sucked into the world of mystery, and as always, I felt I was tagging right along with Jarvis throughout the entire book. I’ve always enjoyed R. Weir’s novels, and this one was no different. There is so much mystery, suspense, and at times I was hanging off the edge of my seat, waiting to see what would happen next.
