WOW...so this book was...INTENSE. Lana sky is yet another new "to me" author I decided to take a chance on, and I seem to have hit the jackpot lately with amazing books by authors I have never read before. As soon as I saw the synopsis for this book, my dark loving heart beat a little faster and I knew I needed to get my grubby hands on a copy. I liked it a lot. As soon as I saw the synopsis for this book, my dark loving heart beat a little faster and I knew I needed to get my grubby hands on a copy. I liked it a lot. It was super dark in the sense that the hero was just god awful. And actually, that is the main reason I couldn't go all in with a 5-Star rating. His treatment of Snow crossed the line for me. I've read plenty of dark books where the hero treats the heroine worse physically, but the mental torture this hero used on an already disturbed heroine made me wonder how and IF this guy can ever really be redeemed. I think maybe if we had gotten some chapters from his POV I may have had an easier time connecting with him. In this book all we get is vicious cruelty from him, and zero kindness. Perhaps in the next book will delve more into his head?? The other issue I have was that I felt Snow was a doormat. This didn't affect my rating at all because short of cutting his dick off and feeding it to him, she would inevitable always come across weak considering how cruel the hero was. The things she put up with made me cringe. Those two issues aside this was still a cracking good read. Well written. Well paced. The plot was engaging. Dark. Twisted. Intense. Heartbreaking. Rage inducing. Mysterious. The sex was hot (borderline dub-con). There was no OW or OM drama. It was angst on steroids (lol). There weren't a ton of secondary characters, but both Snowy's brothers were intriguing. Last, it all wraps up on a captivating cliffhanger that will leave you wishing you had book two in your hands ASAP.

This really was quite a dilemma for me in terms of my eventual rating here as on the one hand I was glued to this until the final closing words that certainly managed to grip me with there brilliant intensity. But then this also equally repelled me with the psychological warfare used against Snow by Blake that at times actually felt more along the lines of mental torture so great was the cruelty and spite employed here. This at timed went beyond the realms of what I am comfortable with totally smashing my boundaries and nearly reaching my hard limit. This is the first instalment in a dark romance duet and this follows the story of Snow and Blake its a wronged revenge trope and told completely from Snows POV. I should also mention as well don't be expecting any sweeter romantic moments here as this just doesn't have them: I use the term romance very lightly indeed just putting that out there so you realise this and are aware. So as I was saying I feel that only experiencing snow's input here didn't balance out Blakes venom and because of this, I failed to find anything redeemable in him meaning I struggled to connect emotionally with Blake's personal suffering that had turned him into this vengeful monster. In fact, I would go as far as to say at times I really wanted to throat punch him so great was my abhorrence of his actions and intentions. I struggled with the annihilation and torment of an already damaged individual especially considering snow's age at the time of her supposed crime the unintentional actions of a child, not an adult that had then resulted in such far-reaching consequences. Snow has had to then live with herself ever since not an easy task for her as she has lost the one closest to her heart. I am now so emotionally invested in the outcome here even if at this moment in time I absolutely detest Blake with a passion and personally want him to grovel on bended knees to snow for forgiveness. I also think from the snippet included at the end here of book two, we get some input from Blakes side of things and I am hoping this may showcase a crack in his impenetrable armour: anything really to see him act in any positive manner and maybe get a sense of his inner angst. So this was very dark but as I said this darkness wasn't physical but more psychological in nature and I have read so much darker than this before this just seemed to hit all my buttons in terms of triggers. So despite my above observations, I did enjoy this and it most certainly left a distinct impression in regards to its impact. It's an extremely intense journey that will hook its claws in for the duration and despite not being easy reading in places was surprisingly addictive: almost like car crash TV. This is one that some might struggle with just because of the emotional abuse heavily featured here: I know I did. But this was most certainly memorable so well done to the author on that one: this tale stands out from the crowd. I voluntary reviewed a copy of King's Men (The Savage Fall Duet #1). All opinions expressed here are entirely my own. Reviewed By Beckie Bookworm https://www.facebook.com/beckiebookworm/ www.beckiebookworm.com

I am going to take a moment and give a round of applause for the author because guys, it takes a dang good author to write such a dark romance yet somehow keep the readers hooked. I don't think I blinked that much while reading this book because saying King's Men is dark and intense is an understatement! I devoured this book. The surprising thing is, along with all that drama and intense darkness, there were a few heartbreaking moments that made me question whether I had the right to even empathise the situation. I'm telling you, I can't grasp this book. It's so dark yet so good. One Hell of a book! And that cliffhanger! I need King's Horses ASAP!

I escaped the world scathed and bruised only to be desperately wanting for more. I'll only ever want you when you're a broken, little shell." Oh ...how I devoured this book. Lana Sky truly is a torture artist, skilled at crafting the most sinful masterpiece that lured you into its depths, ensnaring you into its seductive world of monsters and man. Lana Sky is a brilliant storyteller with no qualms about boundaries. There isn't a limit to her writing as she daringly explores the darkest vault in the world of dark romanticism, challenging it, wielding it, surprising her readers with the lengths she is willing to go to tell her story. A modern-day retelling with a darker take on the fable "Humpty Dumpty", King's Men tells the story of a young, insecure girl and how she turned her back on the only boy she has ever loved. The only boy who mattered. Bearing the guilt of her doing, her punishment comes in the form of Blake Lorenz who is set out to ruin the only thing she has left. Herself. "You look beautiful only like this. Without that f*cking fake bullsh*t. You can only ever look beautiful like this." I loved every second of it. The angst, the desperation, and the plotline were addicting, so much so that I feed off the emotions of it all. Does that make me a masochist? This book explores themes that may set triggers to some, but this only proves to what extent the author is capable of reaching for the sake of storytelling. Poignant and evocative, King's Men raised the bar so high, I am eager to see how the duet will conclude.

I can’t believe how much I loved this book. It is so dark that it isn’t beautiful. It’s catastrophic. I feel like I’m depraved loving this book so much. I still haven’t fully processed what I have just finished reading. I don’t know what I’m feeling..... oh wait I do know. My body, my heart and my soul is in shreds. This book is definitely not for the faint of heart. You will hate the hero but somehow still end up loving the book. It lures you in and captures you in it’s dark dark web.

I was hooked from beginning to end! Blake and Snow have steamy chemistry; however, their story is a dark one filled with painful memories and lies. Snow would do anything for her father and her family and her father made her betray her best friend. Now he is back for revenge. Will he get it? Intense, emotional and drama filled. These characters have so much depth and their story will draw you in. I loved it!

Snowy Hollings, a broken princess who is forced to do unspeakable things to save her family. A family that is powerful, aristrocrat and part of society's upper crust. But the empire is built on deception, cruelty, greed and power games. The empire is crashing down all of a sudden in hands of a stranger, Blake Lorenz. Snowy is desperate to save her family and ready to make a deal with the devil. But the devil looks like a ghost from her past. Brandt Lloyd. The boy she loved and the boy she "killed" all because of her ruthless merciless father. But this enigmatic cold and bitter man is nothing like her sweet Brandt. What will happen between them? Is Brandt back for revenge? Who is Blake Lorenz? Is any price too high when Snowy is trying to save herself and her family? The plot is simply stunning. The secrets are coming out one after another. Blake and Snow's interactions are a thin line between corrosive hate and overwhelming attraction. The sex scenes are intense and dirty. This story is raw, gritty and as angsty as anyone can take. It covers highly sensitive issues like abuse and sexual assault. The darkness and violence are given a beautiful shape here. The story talks about the deepest animalistic parts of humanity. Passion. Survival. Greed. Love. Lust. Revenge. And the combination is amazing. I could not stop reading at all. I want to hate Blake for torturing Snow but I really can't as I can feel his pain too. I want to love Snow but sometimes I can't forgive her for making weak decisions. Nothing is real or moral here. And we readers are caught in the whirlwind. Lana Sky has created a desperate and destructive yet delicious story of love and hate. The story kept me on the edge whole time. I am hypnotized and completely obsessed with King's Men. One of the best dark contemporary romance I have ever read .

Sooo unnecessary and seemed laziness on the author's part to get to a particular word count. Lana Sky can definitely write - but this book was lacking a likeable heroine.

With a father that was absolutely ruthless and did ANYTHING to get ahead, including using his children, this family learned from a young age that they either jump on the bandwagon or else. She had one real friend growing up, Brandy Lloyd and she basically killed him, which killed her as well. Everything is looking up for Snowy, she is about to wed a wealthy man who seems like he might be fairly decent. Then BOOM goes the dynamite and her world is shattered and left in the hands of Blake Lorenz. Blake is a SHREWD businessman who freakishly looks like her old friend, but that is impossible because he died, right? He wants to break Snowy, completely. The way he goes about it has me gasping at certain points and jaw-dropped most of the time. Why in the world does it seem as if this guy has a personal grudge against her? I am in AWE of this book, it is not easy to read and there are definitely trigger elements in this, but if you like dark books-- I HIGHLY recommend King's Men. I am not joking when I say I want the second book in my hands RIGHT NOW! 5 outta 5 and desperately wanting the 2nd half of the duet ASAP! Please take into account all of this before considering purchasing this book. * * * King’s Men is not for the faint of heart. It is intensely dark, raw and gritty. It is twisted in ways I couldn’t comprehend; it seeps into your soul and leaves a mark upon your bones. It is a story unlike no other I have read. I have read my fair share of dark romance. I live by a philosophy of “the darker, the better” and yet I haven’t come across something quite like this. I like pushing my boundaries and testing the limit of what I can tolerate in a story such as King’s Men. You only have to read the blurb to know that it’s a difficult read and yet, I was enthralled. As soon as it was downloaded onto my Kindle, I devoured it. I tore through it with greedy eyes, desperate to see Snowy Hollings, our meek, far-from-innocent heroine, deal with her voluntary imprisonment by the domineering, hate-filled Blake Lorenz. Just as the blurb explains, this story stems from a lie. Ten years ago, a young Snowy told a lie so dreadful it killed the love of her life. Now, on a night of celebration, her lie comes back to haunt her, leaving nothing but destruction in its wake. Overnight, her world collapses around her, leaving with nothing but her name. After all, you reap what you sow. With desperation the only thing she can feel, Snowy does the unthinkable and strikes a deal with the devil. Blake is her saviour, her salvation, her destruction, her downfall. And he’s been telling the biggest lie of all. Blake commands every page, making you loathe his every word, every action, his very presence. Just like Snowy does in that empty mansion, I felt him in every shadow. Sky’s description of him was so vivid, it was like his essence seeped off the pages into the real world, taking hold of the air around me. It was like I was Snowy. I felt every ounce of pain he inflicted on her, both psychological and physical. He repulsed me to the point where I almost put down the book to never pick it up again. But just like Snowy, I soldiered on. This book is a true testament to Lana Sky’s writing prowess. She has an uncanny ability to churn out dark, painfully raw stories I have ever had the pleasure of reading. She breaks open her characters and bares their souls for the world to see. She spins tales so heartbreaking and deplorable, yet so riveting that you can’t help but come back for more. Blake and Snowy’s story is compelling from start to finish. I became fully invested quite quickly and I am very glad to have read this story. I highly recommend King’s Men to those who love a book full of grit with a harrowing story and an incredibly complex villain, if you can call him that. 5 stars.

Totally amazed, second book I've read from this author and the second time I'm blown away. It had some things going on, but easy enough to follow. This story bring to mind that old saying "money cant by you happiness* they ain't never lied I dont usually like cliff hangers but I can see why and I'm sure the next book will be worth it. The characters dang were awesome they're personalities flowed right along wth the details. Its harsh. Intense. Dark and amazing. What would you do for love? It’s too darkish to find any romance. The H was very cruel to the h. Of course she deserved it but still it’s too much hatred for my taste. The h is useless coward selfish bitch. She is ready to prostitute herself to the H to save shares of her family company. That’s just not what I would like to read. I love self respecting woman. I even read tstl or doormat heroines. But this one was too useless. The writing is also scattered. Not addicting.

I'm still trying to put together my thoughts and form the words to understand what the fuck was I truly reading. Let me break it down. When i started the book, I was intrigued by Snowy Hollings. She was feisty, strong, the epitome of bold which quite literally really makes me appreciate women who take a stand for themselves and don't feel dominated by men. I assumed I'd love this since i'm more lured by books which include rivals to lovers than any other trope. I assumed I'd love this since i'm more lured by books which include rivals to lovers than any other trope. And this book clearly started off that way, but then it went downhill really quick. The problems i had were that i could not stand Snow after the first 3 chapters. She ripped her clothes multiple times infront of Blake Lorenz and would offer her body to him. She was ready to sell her body for money. Stuttered and acted out of character, almost looked like the love interest's lapdog. I was waiting impatiently for her to snap at Blake, tell him to back off but she was literally so lost in her misery about her ex-boyfriend being back from the dead. There was not a single fucking chemistry found between the main characters. He pressurized her into thinking she wanted to have sex with him when she was clearly not ready, and when he was done he just stood up and left. He continuously fingered her and fucked her, without her consent, or her wanting any of it. He was borderline possessive, disgusting, even manhandled and assaulted her. this isn't even an exaggeration. the plot twist about Blake being Brandt's dad was so ugly. In summation, I can gladly recall over 5 books I've read with the same plot of a dominating alpha love interest who makes a contract with the protagonist to own her, and they were done so much better...than this would ever reach the ranks of doing so.
