My dearest hussar, Harry, from the day you arrived at St. Vincent’s Fort six months ago, an undeniable attraction began to simmer away between us. Whenever I got too close to you, my traitorous heart skipped a dratted beat and butterflies would abound in my belly. You have tempted me with your honor and integrity, with your deep love for your family and your fellow soldiers-in-arms. I’m aware you will fight to the death to ensure Napoleon doesn’t end up taking Portugal, and so will I. Our enemy cannot be permitted to rule all of Europe, or to force his way onto England’s shores. I admire all that you are, but you are also from a titled English family and of far better blood than I. My true parents abandoned me as a wee baby and if not for the professor who adopted me, I would have been left to perish. That is why I will never attempt to take our friendship any deeper than I should. Days together enjoying companionable friendship is all that I’ve asked for, but this war keeps tearing us apart, as if we shouldn’t even be permitted that much. Never fear for me, my hussar—we will both survive this coming battle. It is time for us to slay our enemy, to win this dratted war, then for you to return safely to your family. Yours in deep friendship, Julia. Each book in this series is standalone, and can be enjoyed out of sequence. The Wartime Bride: Regency Romance by Joanne Wadsworth is a fantastic read. Ms. Wadsworth has provided us with a book that is loaded with outstanding, lovable characters. I enjoyed reading The Wartime Bride and look forward to reading more from Joanne Wadsworth in the future. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from a third party. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Even though I did love the Earl I adore this new book was not my cup of tea. To Love During war was a great story and the characters were developed nicely. However, I did not like all the war battle references. I'm looking to escape reality while I'm reading and I do enjoy suspense and action but in this book I felt that it was a little too much war for me. He's handsome and brave and comes from a noble family. These two have a love/hate relationship. They may squabble but their desire is always there. Their highly charged relationship pulled me in. It's romantic and sensual. This story is a wonderful combination of romance and pulse pounding military battles. I liked the setting. The fight for Portugal between the French and the English was interesting. I love Joanne Wadsworth's writing. She has written characters that made me fall in love with them. I'm enjoying the Regency Brides series.

Fantastic writing and story telling. This one was a total page turner that had me eager to find out what would happen next. The characters were great. The historical backdrop the author chose was more involved than most historical romances and actually played an integral part of the plot which I enjoyed. It added an atmosphere of realism and danger to the book. Part of a series but can be read as a standalone, recommended to all romance readers, most especially historical romance readers. After reading a ton of romance series it is hard to keep things new and original. I like that Joanne Wadsworth works hard on keeping this fresh in each story. Joanne Wadsworth took her time with this book, not only does she look into the 1800s but about the battles with Napoleon and had a fun history fact at the end that the battle was based on. There are some things that I thought meh, or eh. But it was part of the story.

Harry and Julia's story was full of passion, romance and adventure. There is a war going on but the spark that is ignited between these two, burns bright. I laughed along with these two! Julia is full of surprises and had me rooting for her from the beginning. Harry has been fighting Napoleon's troops for a long time but he can't fight against the feelings Julia stirs up. This is a must read for any romance reader, I can't wait for the next book in this series! Harry and Julia's story was full of passion, romance and adventure. Rushed Romance in Times of War I am normally a fan of Joanne Wadsworth books. I find her heroines to be bright and engaging. This book was a disappointment. The first chapter shows how the heroine was found as an infant by a spinster and an unmarried professor floating down a river in the Scottish borderlands. The professor decides to raise the infant as his own. Flash forward to Regency England, where the abandoned woman is now 27 years old. The professor decides to raise the infant as his own. Flash forward to Regency England, where the abandoned woman is now 27 years old. The main body of the book starts right off putting us in Wellington's war room--the professor is an advisor--which is unusual for a Regency romance. It was interesting to be dropped right into battle planning; a clever way to point out how important war will be in this romance. The romantic storyline felt rushed. When the Regency part opens, the hero and heroine had already known each other for six months and had an attraction even when they first met. The reader doesn’t get to know either the hero or heroine (or see a romantic buildup) before those characters embroil themselves in a situation that just doesn't ring true to Regency times. The book had some odd errors. There were some problems with diction. For instance, the found infant was said to have “flayed” her arms instead of “flailed” them. There were common issues with punctuation like commas. I've so enjoyed some of the author's other works. This was not amongst her best., but I'm still looking forward to seeing her next efforts.

Harry also keeps saying that he must marry someone of his station, which also makes his taking advantage of Julia this way as not being very honorable. He discovers she likes to disguise herself as a man and he hits his head and loses his memory during a battle. There were a lot of ups and downs in this Regency romance, but it was not as sweet and clean as the author implies.

A well written historical romance that takes place during the war. Nice storyline and plot. Sometimes it felt too rushed though and that made it lack depth.
