THE DAMNED is the third of Kirk Kilgrave's novels of supernatural horror (after THE PRESENCE and THE POSSESSED). Psychic librarian Eloise and 95-year-old medium Nona are a team of paranormal investigators who consider their gifts a calling, not a career, and who accept no pay. Jocelyn, facing mounting debt from school loans and her mother's mortgage, who has recently met the pair while battling a demon in her home, joins with them on a case in which a $1 million dollar reward is offered to the team which can successfully oust all the spirits from a substantial but abandoned isolated rural mansion in Illinois. (Jocelyn is the protagonist of THE POSSESSED.) The dual difficulties are that the mansion is suffused with spirits; and that two teams of investigators are there simultaneously, presumably to compete with each other for the big prize. Unfortunately, none of them know the real truths; and neither will the reader, until almost the very end. This is a really twisty novel: even though I'm very familiar with the "haunted house" subgenre, the author threw a lot of new twists and turns that I didn't expect to find, and the plot definitely maintained my interest.

Oh, and did I mention Jocelyn's priest shows up out of nowhere? Not to mention that Jocelyn somehow banishes the demon, yet the Priest was busier deflecting the demon's taunts than assisting an untrained, non-clergy woman in an exorcism. (hide spoiler)] Oh Kilgrave. You started off with what promised to be a heck of a ride, pitting two paranormal teams against one another in a race to rid a mansion of it's ghost to get the $1,000,000 prize. You ended with the literary version of dropping cymbals on the ground. However. this was the third in the Sinister Spirits series, and I'm currently reading the first one, so stay tuned for a review on The Presence as well. I recommend this book only if you like not-so-scary horror stories and need to kill a few hours.

To Read or Not To Read: This is most definitely a horror story. If you love a good paranormal horror, this is to read. Filled with supernatural goodness to the last page. Written with twists and turns you don't see coming, and characters that run the gamut from those you love to hate to those you are absolutely rooting for - this book serves up a blood and gore main course with a side of death. Overall: I really like the story, characters, and setting of this book. Even the set up was well thought out. It's difficult to write a review without spoilers because there are so many great moments in the story, but telling you anything may give stuff away. I will say there is a huge twist at the end, that some may catch in the beginning, I didn't. I am actually going to look for some of the other stuff written by Kirk Kilgrave (great last name by the way!) Other Interesting Notes: Triggers for this book include, death, gore, blood, ghosts, and demons. They do talk about exorcisms, the main character performed one before the book begins (they tell you this very early - so I don't think it's a spoiler). My one complaint is that there are moments that get kind of preachy, faith in God, etc. I myself am not a Christian, and maybe that's why it got to me a bit. It's not all ministry, but there are significant parts it does play. So if religious talk turns you off - you may want to stay clear. https://angiediazdelarosa.wixsite.com...

The band is back together! Months after taking care of a demon issue, Jocelyn, Nona, and Eloise are called upon to rid a haunted house of ghosts. It will take everything that Jocelyn has learned about her special abilities to support her two friends and learn how to help them in their mission. In The Damned (Sinister Spirits Book 3), Kirk Kilgrave takes us on another thrilling and suspenseful journey into the world of the paranormal and supernatural. Kilgrave makes that world tangible to the reader. I shuddered more than once. Part horror and part psychological thriller, this story engages you from the first page to the last. There is a huge mystery, many surprising twists, paranormal action, unforeseen tragedies, and a bit of humor. The storyline is so fluid that it reads quickly. I could not put it down until I was done. I am eager to read book four as it is obvious that Jocelyn has a lot more to learn, and the war is not over. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

It’s just not me I didn’t even get to the end of the first chapter before I realized this book was not for me. Again, reading it or attempting to read it, simply to get rid of it from my ‘discover’ tab on kindle but I really did try to read it. Howeverr, it’s just too trite. They spend about ten minutes simply jabbering about ghost investigation equipment and what might be in there. it’s just too much. Report card, must try harder.

Wow!! The saga continues with Jocelyn and friends at a well known haunted house which also appears to harbour a demon. They have been hired for a competition against another group of paranormal investigators to rid the house of all the ghosts. There are a lot of gory scenes and disgusting language in this book. The story itself is fascinating but I would have enjoyed it a lot more if there wasn't so much gore and graphic language. Wow!! I have enjoyed this series thus far quite alot! Some things have improved from the first, some have not so much. q They both are original and and have interesting storylines. The characters are well written and fun. Sad 😢about Nina however. I will definately read more of Jocelyn and Eleanor!💜

Great story Really enjoyed reading this and read it pretty quickly. Only thing that was off putting was the spelling mistakes. Maybe worth the author to make another read through to correct. I haven't read the first book Possessed but certainly will in near future. Look for to seeing whats in store for Jocelyn, Eloise and Father Demetrius. This is a great haunted house story, it did not grab me at the start but I am glad I continued reading because it ended up being a detailed scarey superntural read. This is my first from this author and I look forward to more

Great book A good story with great characters. A well written book with depth. My only criticism is I would have liked to have found out how things played out with the police.
