Reading this book has been an amazing journey. The writing, the characters, the story everything was just so perfect. I'd recommend going in blind as I did, without reading the synopsis (or remembering the synopsis) because that makes the beginning have an even bigger effect. You laugh, you cry, you hope, you fall in love only to have your heart broken again, and in the end you're satisfied and content with it all. It's amazing how it goes. I loved how each different kind of relationship is portrayed. We see Talia suffer through so much pain and hurt and abuse and we see how it shapes her and how she uses the guilt for something better. We see real friendship and the meaning of home and family. We see love and all that comes with it. I would highly highly highly recommend it! Read it! Even though I know her story is yet to continue in the books to come, I'm a 100% content with this :) **The ARC was provided by the author in axchange for an honest review**

The Talia Shaw series follows young Talia Shaw as she is forced to tour on her own after she is the sole survivor of a plane crash that kills her best friends and band mates. The author is very knowledgeable about the music industry and all it takes to create and set up a live concert. Talia's road to fame and love promises to be a rocky one as she sets out with her new friends, Teddy and Lucy, to conquer the music industry. 4.25 Stars! I was asked to read this series to see what I thought about it and so of course I agreed since I had enjoyed the standalone book by the same author. Talia is only 19 but has to endure a lot in a relatively short amount of time. This seems to be the first book that Christine J Darcy wrote and as a new author I thought she did a great job. It does appear that she uses famous people as her inspiration. She clearly has her own stories for them but you will see similarities. The first book doesn’t leave you on a cliffhanger but trust me you will want to immediately start on the second book, at least I did, and it is proving to be just as good as the first one. I am having a hard time putting it down but unfortunately my job requires me to work while I am there. LOL

In the beginning, she is such an easygoing young woman, but, as time goes on, she starts to become a lot more anxious and reserved. That being said, she eventually learns to open up and show herself to the world. Staffy, aka Talia's best friend, is one of the most caring, kindhearted people I've met. The compassion she shows for Talia is neverending and one that is truly compelling to experience as an outsider. Ted (or Teddy, as Talia likes to call him) is also very kind as well. He doesn't like to rush into things as he takes his time to make sure everyone is comfortable with him/the situation. I wasn't the biggest fan of him at first, but, as time went on, I became quite fond of him. I didn't have much against Laurie, but he also wasn't my favorite. He was just... there. It felt like he was cast in the shadows, apart of the background, for a majority of the novel. I don't have anything positive or negative to say about him, really. ➵ PACING The major thing I had an issue with was the pacing. It felt like everything happened too quickly. One minute Talia was on a plane with her two best friends and a second later she's visiting their gravestones two minutes before she's going on a month long cruise with a writer she's never heard of before, all within a span of 50 pages. From the beginning, it all felt rushed. ➵ WRITING While I found the writing both enticing and compelling, it was very choppy as well. There was no variation in the sentence structure or length. It was almost as Darcy used the same model for each sentence, just switched up the order of the words, adding some and taking some out here and there. ➵ Right off the bat, Darcy threw in one of my least favorite things in ANY story: the it was all just a dream cliche, so that was an immediate deterant for me. ➵ All of the above in consideration, I seriously could NOT take my eyes off this book. I was able to fly through it in just under two hours because I was that invested in it. ➵ FINAL THOUGHTS Regardless of it being a complete emotional sh*t show, I highly recommend this romance novel to anybody who seems even the slightest bit intrigued by the synopsis. I KNOW you won't be let down. ➵ I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review | EXPECTED PUBLICATION DATE: January 20, 2019 by Christine J Darcy ➵ You can preorder Bright Lights right now on Amazon for only $0.99. This book made me laugh, cry, and everything in between. I was hooked from the beginning and I can’t wait to continue Talia’s story and see where she goes and how she grows! I think the author did such a great job at taking us through becoming a star while also allowing us to experience the pain Talia is going through because of her grief. I really enjoyed it!! Ms. Darcy is a new to me author but I look forward to reading more from her!

There were moments in the book that showed you the impact of her best friends deaths which felt real. I liked the fact the book did not linger on a sad note but dealt with it realistically and sensitively. Talia's career starts off on a bad note but soon hits giddy heights. This seemed realistic as it can be in the book world and I loved the friends she made along the way. No evil character or addict in the book which again made a refreshing change. Loved Teddy, still undecided about Laurie - I am interested to see what happens in the next book. This book does not leave you on a cliffhanger, but you know there is more to come and as a reader you want more.

A wonderful debut by romance author Christine J. Darcy. Full of music, tragedy, passion, and super-stardom, the story stands alone even without the turbulent love affair that defines it. Bright Lights' ending defies genre expectations, neither does it fizzle out in a cinderous tragedy. Expect great things from the Talia Shaw series and from this author in books to come. In Bright Lights, the debut novel by Christine J. Darcy, 18-year-old Talia Shaw is living every rock-and-roll girl’s dream come true. Until she isn’t. But then she is. No, wait… Well, you get it. But then she is. No, wait… Well, you get it. Darcy takes both her characters and her readers on an emotional roller-coaster ride that I really enjoyed. Talia, the focus of the story (and evidently the upcoming series), is a likable character anyone who has ever dreamed of becoming famous can associate with. Her story is a familiar fantasy, albeit with an initial tragic twist when her dreams and those of her bandmates and BFFs are shattered by a plane crash. Don’t worry. Things are looking up for Talia after a long cruise and a couple good drunks. We’ll just pretend that would happen and be all it takes to write a new solo album. The central love story is something of a triangle. Laurie is the obvious draw since he’s good-looking, older and already famous. Teddy gets assigned to the friend-zone immediately and only time will tell if he ever gets out. Which one is the bad guy and the Bad Boy isn’t entirely clear. Laurie and Teddy seem to trade the role off for most of the book which may be why the ending is oddly unsatisfying (depending on whether you’re Team Laurie or Team Teddy). Regardless, the sense that Talia can survive anything is only amplified by the start of her tour, and I find myself cheering for Talia as well as looking forward to the second book in the series. This is a fun, fast read. There are some visible signs that Darcy isn’t any more American than Talia is (no bar/club in LA is going to serve an 18-year-old without a very good fake ID, and record sales don’t count). The good news is: none of it detracts from the story or the storytelling, which are very good for a debut novel. I think older readers (those who could drink before 21) will enjoy it more than the college/new adult crowd who will likely find some of it laughable. If you’re looking for a comfortable escape, Bright Lights is a great read well worth picking up.

I really liked this book. I wasn't sure what to expect as I've never read any books by this author. The book takes us through the progression of Talia's life. I do wish that we got to see more of Talia's grief after losing her friends but at the same time I understand that Darcy choose not to write about it too often. She has after all balanced it quite nicely. As the book goes we find out more about why Talia isn't thinking about her friends as often as she perhaps "should" which puts it all in a better perspective. Her story starts off tragic, a young girl Talia who is on the her journey to stardom as part of a girl band, only to be caught up in an accident leaving her the sole survivor. Talia battles with the pain of loss, guilt and the trouble of a contract to a record label she is unable to break. She is made to continue recording, her shining light in the form of ‘Teddy’ who is patient and understanding and a writer who helps encourage her to pour her heart out in the form of lyrics. The story is very much about a young woman caught up in the initial predatory claws of fame. She falls for rock star bad boy Laurie Siler who is years into his stardom journey and you can’t help but feel Talias love for him is born from admiration and lust. The book was an enjoyable read, and reminded me of the life of Taylor Swift. It was a good first book and I’m intrigued to see what the second book in this series will bring.

A tale of first love, fame, family, and friends "Bright Lights" turned out to be a delightful read that draws inspiration from iconic popstars and moments. The character Talia Shaw definitely feels Taylor Swift-esque which becomes even more apparent when she is humiliated at the Grammy's by fictional rapper Easton after she wins instead of the sensational artist she was up against. I also love how the book dealt with Talia's grief and how it never really disappeared even when she was trying her best to avoid it, it was still there in every decision she made. I didn't always agree with her decisions and felt frustrated with her at times but I think that's a mark of a well-written character; they should be flawed and human otherwise what is there to overcome or learn from? Also, is this a New Adult disguised as YA? I didn't really suspect it of NA until midway through the book when the "sexy times" started happening unless we're just going there in YA books now. Either way, it was still good and had a good plot that relied more heavily on Talia dealing with her stardom and grief rather than the sexy times she was having with her rockstar boyfriend. So many NA books focus so much on the sex and have little to do with an actual plot that I'm always wary of picking one up. But I'll definitely be picking up the sequel to this one. I want to know more about her journey and how/if it'll affect her growth.

What a plot! This was my first read by Christine and the premise of this being a series with multiple books and the continuation of focus on one character really drew me in. The beginning of this book was so devastating and such a shock that I really didn’t see it coming! To me, this book really talked about the ability to overcome a traumatic event for Talia, and also grow into adulthood. The level of naivety from Talia really makes this book enjoyable because you can see the impending train wr What a plot! The level of naivety from Talia really makes this book enjoyable because you can see the impending train wreck from her not handling situations the best coming. I would have loved to get more background information, because I really felt like the beginning of the book started somewhat abruptly, but overall the pace of the book was great in relation to the story and Talia’s career. I’m so interested to see what happens next after what happens with Talia and her love life! I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

You can feel the weight of the world as you read the book. The stuff she goes through to reach fame is a must read. Can’t wait to read the next book to see if you helps out her friends to become some one too.

Bright Lights is a story that you can become invested in from the beginning. The character development allows you to connect with the characters and feel what they are feeling. Therefore, you are shown Talia after a Plane crash after losing her friend, to becoming a rock star. This novel makes you feel so many emotions while reading. In turn, the details allow you to feel how the characters are feeling, and you want to read more. I was unable to put the book down and look forward to many more bo Bright Lights is a story that you can become invested in from the beginning. Goodreads Kindle Copy Win It is a typical rise of a young lady as she seeks fame from music. She must face the tragedy of losing her band members in a plane crash and surviving to tour. How the road to fame is not always easy as tragedy sometimes hit when you least expect it. It was not the most interesting of reads.
