How I got this book: advanced copy from author When Carly announced on Twitter that she was releasing a novella set in the town of Serendipity, I got all sorts of excited, asked if she wanted to do some promotion with us, and then nearly fainted when she offered me an advanced look. I loved the town of Serendipity and the folks in it, so this was a super sweet treat for me! We only had a few moments of page time with Lissa in Serendipity, and she wasn’t exactly portrayed in the greatest light. But I always got a sense that there was so much more to her, and was hoping we would get more time to know her better. What we don’t see is that Lissa has had it rough. Her history in the small town wasn’t easy, and because of one dumb choice in high school, she ruined the best relationship she could have hoped for. Now that she is divorced and working on interviewing up and coming business men, Lissa will have to come face-to-face with the boy who left her behind, the one she let get away. Trevor took Wall Street by storm and while he hasn’t stopped thinking about Lissa, he refused to let anyone tell him about her either. When she walks into his office to interview him, all the emotions from high school come back and Trevor realizes he is far from over her. But with the vast amount of history behind them, will they be able to come together as adults and admit they let the real thing go all those years ago? I absolutely adored this story! It’s a short one, but it packs quite a punch in the small time we have with Lissa and Trevor. It’s obvious from the get-go that both Lissa and Trevor are still deeply in love with each other, despite the years and distance. But despite that love, there is also a bit of distrust and uncertainty, especially for Trevor. I really liked that Phillips had Trevor struggle with his decision to try again with Lissa. He was obviously hurt by the way things ended between them, and yet even after they rekindled their physical relationship, Trevor wasn’t ready for more. I was glad to see him be the one to struggle with trust issues and a little insecurity as to whether or not Lissa would hurt him again. It was real and emotional and I loved that he didn’t hold back in his honesty with Lissa. Although the story takes place over just a few short days, it feels like there is so much more going on. The short story packs an emotional punch and the tension between Lissa and Trevor starts strong and simmers until it finally explodes. There is a wonderful smexy scene that is not only hot but very heartfelt as well. All in all Kismet is a wonderful novella to add to the Serendipity series. The connection between Lissa and Trevor is unmistakable and their romance was quick and yet so sweet and romantic. Fans of Phillips and the Serendipity series will want to make sure they get their hands on this novella! I give Kismet an A

Very enjoyable - but I wish the characters would have gotten a full length book. There was so much more about them - their relationship, the daughter, Trevor dealing with her ex-husband - that I would have loved to have read more about. But I loved what I read, plus wanting more isn't always a bad thing and maybe Carly will revisit them in future books or another short story perhaps :) Very enjoyable - but I wish the characters would have gotten a full length book. Lissa was such a bitch in Serendipity that I didn't know why she got her own novella and not Kate. Nevertheless this is a wonderful story of past lovers who eventually find love again. I understand why Lissa was a bitch. She had a rough life because of one mistake when she was young - she lost her love, she got pregnant and had to marry a jerk early and when she left him, she got nothing from the divorce, a young daughter to raise and working on part time jobs that barely paid rent. What i like a Lissa was such a bitch in Serendipity that I didn't know why she got her own novella and not Kate. Nevertheless this is a wonderful story of past lovers who eventually find love again. She had a rough life because of one mistake when she was young - she lost her love, she got pregnant and had to marry a jerk early and when she left him, she got nothing from the divorce, a young daughter to raise and working on part time jobs that barely paid rent. What i like about her is that Lissa knows when she is wrong and is honest enough to admit her mistakes. She also worked hard to support her family and achieve her dreams. Trevor also came from a poor family, loved Lissa but was insecure that he could not provide for her, so he asked Lissa for a little break, then discovered she had a one night stand with her ex and got pregnant. Ouch! I thought it was reasonable that Trevor would be angry and hurt because he was faithful to her and she ruined it. And I disagree with his statement at the last part that he should have not left her and married her even if the kid wasn't his (it probably wouldn't have worked out too). When they met up again, he obviously was shocked (compared to Lissa who had plenty of time to brace herself) at first, but I'm glad he was able to get past his hurt and this time, fight for her (now that they are adults). What I didn't like a bit was how they broke up for the second time - like they were in high school all over again, with Trevor not sure and wanted some time to think and Lissa jumping the gun and getting angry again without understanding him. I thought Trevor had a valid reason and it was mature of him to take a step back and think of the consequences since this time as he said, continuing this will impact Olivia's life too. And yet Lissa accused him that the main reason was that he couldn't face her daughter because it is Brad's. Uh Hello. If she didn't have sex with his ex in the first place they would probably still be together now. And Trevor didn't say he hated the kid, but being a bachelor to a potential stepdad is a huge step and it must have been scary for him. The ending was sweet, with Trevor coming back to Serendipity to proclaim his love for Lissa in front of everyone, though I think Lissa should be the one swallowing her pride this time but I guess since Lissa got a full time job in Manhattan, it shows her also meeting him halfway. Now please, I want Kate and Nick's story!

My Review: Please let there be more of these little novellas to come for this wonderful town of Serendipity. There are so many wonderful stories to tell in this little town and if they are all as good as this one and the first book, then we NEED them all! Kismet features the story of Trevor and Lissa. They were high school sweethearts from the wrong side of the tracks, but completely in love. Trevor didn't have the confidence in that love though and decided that they needed to take a break. Lissa, My Review: Please let there be more of these little novellas to come for this wonderful town of Serendipity. Lissa, heartbroken and dejected, drank too much and made a single horrible decision that ended up with her pregnant and in an awful marriage. Neither of them ever recovered from those events or the abrupt ending to any possibility of a future for them. So when Lissa is assigned to interview Trevor for her job ten years later, things heat up between them quite quickly. I love a good angsty love story and this one was PERFECT! So much heartbreak between these two...for both of them. They both made horrible decisions and paid an awful price for that. But what is VERY obvious is that neither of them ever got over their feelings for the other. Now it's just a matter of if they can move PAST what happened to them in the past so that they can have a future. I really loved Lissa's character. I wasn't a huge fan of her's in Serendipity (no huge surprise there...she wasn't a very nice person), but I just loved her in this. Suddenly all of her actions make so much more sense. One single bad decision on her part which probably only covered a two hour span of her life, ruined her entire future. How can you not feel badly for her especially knowing how much she regrets what happened. She's made the best out of her circumstances and hasn't wallowed which is so admirable, because she has a LOT that she could wallow about. I love how willing Trevor is to accept that he made some serious mistakes and assumptions about Lissa. He's matured so much over the ten year span and after his initial reaction, begins to realize his mistakes. He's a great character. And this was quite simply a great novella. I truly loved it!

In KISMET, the reasons behind her behavior are revealed and by the time I finished I was a total Lissa Fan! Trevor and Lissa had strong chemistry and feelings for each other while in High School, one bad argument led to a mistake that would drive them apart and have Lissa married to one of the town golden boys. Trevor took off to college to make something of himself. Ten years later their paths cross again, Lissa is divorced and Trevor is a much sought after rich bachelor. When Trevor sees Lissa for the first time in ten years, he knows he is not over her and wants closure. Lissa has always known she was never going to be over Trevor. They decide to take one weekend to get their closure, only even though their minds said it had to end, their hearts weren't listening. This short story has the emotional PUNCH of a full length book. I felt my heart breaking for both Trevor and Lissa. OMG, there was one scene, their last night of the weekend, that I had to get tissue and remind myself I WAS NOT LISSA, because I could feel her despair and her heart breaking. When Trevor met Lissa's daughter, Livvy, for the first time was quite emotional for me too. AND WHOA!!!!!! I know in the past all of Ms. Phillip's men are ALPHA...BUT as I stated in my SERENDIPITY review Ethan was dominant with Faith and WOWZA Trevor has that dominant side too. Don't get me wrong, it's not full out BDSM DOM type dominant, but they both show a little DOMish traits in the way they take control in the bedroom. I LIKE, I LIKE IT, A LOT!!! KISMET is a sweet, sexy addition to the SERENDIPITY series and leaves you feeling like you read a full length book instead of a novella. There are tidbits about the residents of SERENDIPITY, but not a lot, most of KISMET takes place out of town.

I loved this novella! When I first read Serendipity, I wanted more stories about the other residents in Serendipity. Glad we got Lissa's story first. I’ve made it no secret how much I love the Serendipity series by Carly Phillips. I can honestly say, it is my favorite series ever by Carly, and that is saying a lot since I’ve loved all her books. When I read Serendipity, I was hoping we would get stories from other characters in the town, and with Kismet, we get our first non-Barron brother story. We first met Lissa when she was working at Cuppa Café and was extremely rude to Faith Harrington. She was recently divorced and selling coffee part-time and writing obits for the Serendipity Gazette and waiting for her big break. Luckily, Lissa and Faith found some common grounds and when Faith was ready to tell her story, she gave the exclusive to Lissa, who is now working for The News Journal. Her first major interview was with Trevor Dane…none other than her high school sweetheart, and her one true love. Trevor hasn’t seen Lissa since he found out she was pregnant with Brad Banks’ child and marrying him. Even though his family still lives in Serendipity, he hasn’t allowed anyone to tell him what is going on with Lissa since he left ten years ago. He finally agrees to give her the interview, and then discovers what Lissa’s marriage has really been like. The attraction is still as strong as it was 10 years ago, and neither can resist the other. Lissa and Trevor are so hot together, but Trevor has to decide if he can accept Lissa’s daughter, who is also Brad’s daughter. Trevor and Lissa are so great together, and it was fun to watch the high school sweethearts fall in love all over again. I really loved Kismet and can’t wait for my next visit with the characters in Serendipity. The next release in the Serendipity series is Destiny, which is set for release on January 3, 2012.

I liked this little story a lot. Even if Lissa is not one of my fav character in the series, I'd liked a whole story for her and his ex-boyfriend. The thing is that I think that short stories between books should be a particular situation or a scene between already known characters and not a brand new story. That's my opinion. That said the (short) story was good. I liked this little story a lot. Even if Lissa is not one of my fav character in the series, I'd liked a whole story for her and his ex-boyfriend. A cute short quick read sweet contemporary romance story that more could of been written for this couple instead of the short that Carly put them in (may a revisit...). Emotional read that was an overall good one from a great author...

I read this one out of order, but it didn't make much of a difference. The story was good, but all of the Serendipity couples have the same basic story and it's getting a little old. Growing up on the “wrong” side of the tracks gave her life lessons that have helped her get through the tough times in life but they have also made her the strong, successful woman she is today. Her biggest life lesson; money does not buy you happiness. Trevor Dane also grew up in Serendipity and lived on the “wrong” side of the tracks. He’d always thought that Lissa was beautiful and he’d had a crush on her forever. But Lissa was dating Bradley Banks-quarterback, popular, rich; how could he compete with that. When Lissa and Bradley break up, Trevor decides it’s now or never and he makes his move. He’s surprised and thrilled when Lissa accepts and they begin dating. Their relationship quickly blossoms and they fall in love. Their love is real and true and they spend lots of time together making plans for their future. But Trevor worries too much about the things he can’t provide or give to Lissa, even though she’s never asked for anything. His self imposed feelings of inadequacy start a silly teenaged argument and Lissa and Trevor break up-sending Lissa back into the arms of Bradley Banks. Unfortunately, Lissa and Bradley’s little comfort session results in a pregnancy and because it was the right thing to do, Lissa and Bradley got married and had their daughter, Olivia. But there was no love. It was a marriage in name only. Lissa put up with ten years of a loveless marriage for her daughter’s sake until she couldn’t take it anymore and finally divorced Bradley. Now, on her own with a new career thanks to her exclusive article featuring Faith Harrington, Lissa is working for The News Journal and has been tasked with doing a series of interviews on successful entrepreneurial men who’ve had success before the age of thirty. First up on the list is Trevor Dane. Trevor left Serendipity, went to college and moved to Manhattan. He’s made a name for himself there in the financial world and is an “up and comer”. He’s single, works way too many hours, and really has no personal life to speak of. He visits Serendipity on occasion and while he gets regular updates from his mom and sister, they’ve learned to steer clear of any subject that might include Lissa Gardelli. So, he is completely unprepared when Lissa walks into his office to interview him for her article. Obviously rattled, he doesn’t know what to say to her. As they make small talk, Lissa reveals that she’s now divorced and that the marriage was a complete mistake. Trevor is flooded with feelings that he’s struggled with most of his adult life. He decides that this might just be the perfect opportunity to finally get Lissa out of his system. Ten years of separation did nothing to cool the feelings between Trevor and Lissa and they wasted no time in picking up where they left off. But while they both realize that they have something special, it comes down to one thing: are they willing to make the sacrifices necessary in order to make the relationship work. Lissa has a new job and her daughter to consider and Trevor is at the height of his career. Big changes at this time could have negative ramifications. Is their love worth it? Kismet is a story of love lost then found. It is proof that true love exists and when a love is meant to be it will overcome all obstacles in its path. I enjoyed the additional back story on Lissa who we met in book one, Serendipity (September 2011). Initially, I didn’t like Lissa, but this story put her attitude and personality into perspective for me. I totally enjoyed the premise of second chance love, especially for Lissa who endured so much because she thought she was “doing the right thing.” This is a delightful short and I look forward to Destiny, out in January 2012.

So starting from that point I have to say she was a completely different woman in this short story. I honestly felt for her and her situation. She didn't come from a money family, and she dated the son of the high school janitor while in school. All was fine until they have a huge fight, break up, and she gets comfort from her ex-boyfriend...And just happens to get pregnant. Now fast forward ten years, she married the guy that knocked her up but she was miserable the whole time. He cheated on her, treated her as less than, until she finally got the guts to leave him. Then Faith comes along and her career takes off! So now her next assignment is to interview successful young men in the area. And Trevor Dane is up. Yes, you guessed it. That was her high school sweetheart, the son of the janitor. He went on to do something great with his life and now that she's free, she might hope to get another chance at that spark they always had. And sparks they have! I think these two are such a cute couple, I can't say it enough. Trevor is just to die for, Lissa is very likeable when she's with him. And they just worked for me. This story, even though short, was very sweet and very sexy. I was glued to it until I finished it and then wanted more! Can't wait to read book 2 now!

I know we sometimes see that the girl has gone off and made a career, but it's less likely. 'Carolina Girl' is one such, and 'Love with A Perfect Cowboy'. In all these cases however the two meet up again and marry someone who's probably a cousin of some sort. The lady has a little girl whom she loves and has divorced the caddish father, so a new relationship is not out of the question but she is putting her child first and is concentrating on a new career as a journalist. I did think she jumped a bit too quickly when the rich man beckoned, just because she knew him in school. How many men do you think get women into bed using lines about past love? As this is in a series we get several pages of adoration of a character that we have not even met by that point - she gave a young journalist an interview. I could have done with less as I had not read the earlier book and didn't care about this person whom we hadn't met. When we did meet her I knew too much about her to get to know her through her actions in the current story. I'd rather not have done it that way around. There is an extremely lengthy bedroom scene; there is even a chapter break. No, this scene is all one scene. Don't break the chapter unless you have finished the scene. Think of it like a play. Chapters can vary in length. So it's a light read, won't take you long to get through, and you may or may not want to read more about the small town of Serendipity where the biggest event of the year seems to be an American football match.

After reading about her story I can finally see why she was the way she was. It all makes sense. She gets the chance to reconnect with her past love she never quite got over which I happened to think was bitter sweet. Carly Phillips writes an outstanding short story about love, heartbreak and forgiveness. It was more than enjoyable to read. Kismet was well written and I didn’t feel cheated out of a story because it was short. It started and ended in a way that is unforgettable and all of it was actually wrapped up perfectly. Phillips has a special way of making you fall in love with her characters. Kismet was really a special treat to the Serendipity series and I can’t wait to continue on reading. This is a must buy for all those who believe a happily ever after can actually happen. Happy Reading!!!

Getting a second chance at love is the main theme in this short story by Carly Phillips that has us once again visiting the town of Serendipity. We meet the main character Lissa in the first book in the series and now it's her chance to tell her story. She reconnects with a past love that she never quite got over with. They both live different lives now and have to decide if they really want to become serious. Although Lissa's character has a difficult side that we have seen in the 1st book, there's also a side to her that hopes for more in her life. She's actually strong willed as she has had to deal with much in her past as the result of getting pregnant at an early age. But she doesn't regret anything because her daughter is the most important part if her life and you can feel that importance through the writing. Although we don't read a lot about Trevor in the 1st book, I felt I knew him pretty well by the end of the story. It's obvious that he has deep feelings for Lissa and I enjoyed reading them fall for each other again. I felt that Kismet was extremely well written and enjoyable. Sometimes when reading a novella I am unsatisfied and feel as if the storyline just wasn't enough. I did not feel that way at all while reading Kismet and it's because Carly Phillips did such a great job writing it. It was interesting from start to finish and you can't help but love Lissa and Trevor after you're done reading it.

Often re-connection stories tend to endlessly rake over the reasons a couple broke up until you wonder why they would ever get back together. Although the subject is broached here, there’s more info about what’s transpired in their time apart and how they could get together based on their lives now rather than them seeing their younger selves. Lissa Gardelli has long recovered from her bad marriage after an unplanned teen pregnancy but never stopped loving her adorable but poor suitor, (that has now made good) Trevor Dane. Trevor on the other hand has been plagued with thoughts of his old flame living the high life in a happy wealthy marriage though he has found no other woman to take her place. These two don’t waste much time getting back together and make good characters together and apart. While a quick easy read, and part of the overall series, you’d be fine without this entry (unless you are a complete-ist).

It features a second chance romance/reunion trope which I know a lot of people glom on. For that reason, I'd recommend this one. Even though it's #1.5 in the series, I didn't read the first book and I had no problems with this story. Yay for series books that can be read as stand-alones! Also, I'm making a request that authors go to a school and study the behavior of kids in the age group they plan on writing. There's a 10 year old in this tale that behaves like she's 4! Um~ fail. Nothing rips me from a story quicker than bad characters…this is why I hate children in romances.

The only problem is that once he spends some time with Lissa, he realizes that he should have never let her go in the first place. I really liked this story though I wished it could have been a bit longer. Hopefully Phillips adds more information about these characters in later books. I recommend this Serendipity series ☺

The Playboy's Second Chance is a novella from the Serendipity series. Lissa Gardelli and Trevor Dane dated in high school. Lissa had previously dated Bradley Banks and when they broke up Trevor made his move. One night after a fight between Lissa and Trevor, she ended up in Brad's bed resulting in a pregnancy. Lissa ended up marrying Brad, and was in a loveless marriage for 10 years. Lissa finally divorces Brad and is trying to make it on her own with her daughter Olivia. Lissa is assigned to write an article, Thirty Under Thirty, about 30 successful men under 30 years old. The first assignment is Trevor, whom she hasn't seen in 10 years. I loved his reaction when Lissa walked into his office! It obvious these two still have feelings for each other. The path these two had to take to find their way back to each other was sexy and sweet. I just adored the final happy ending!

This review also posted at A Bookish Compulsion Kismet was a cute and heartwarming tearjerker of a novella about second chances with the one who got away. I really appreciated the realistic nature of both the problems and people in this book. It allowed that people make mistakes, some of which can be life changing, and still be good. It also broke down the myth that happily-ever-after is a gift and made it clear that the happy ending can be a goal but it is one that takes a lot of work and honest This review also posted at A Bookish Compulsion Kismet was a cute and heartwarming tearjerker of a novella about second chances with the one who got away. I give Kismet a tears-of-joy four stars

This book is a short novella and part of the Serendipity series by Carly Phillips. Lissa was once Trevor's girlfriend but mistakes made torn them apart. Lissa married and had a child. Trevor left and made a fortune. Now divorced, Lissa has a chance to interview Trevor for the News Journal. Very short and a bit spicy! It wasn't too bad being a novella but like always I felt cheated. Just not long enough to truly flesh out the story. Torn between 3 and 4 stars. I did not care for it. I was disappointed because I have read all the other serendipity books and started the serendipity finest series. It just seemed so predictable and I could not bring myself to like Trevor. There was too much background from the other books. Lissa's daughter just melted my heart. At least now I understand why Lissa was cold to people in serendipity. I loved Alex Trevor's boss and could not believe how unprofessional that Trevor acted at the first meeting. This was a Serendipity novella which is only in ebook format. It centered on Trevor and Lissa. We met Lissa in the first book of the series but only knew she was a bitter woman who was striving to become a journalist but was working in a coffee shop and writing obits for the local paper. This book gave us all the background we needed on their lives before going their separate ways. There was romance, a few tears, even some laughter thrown in. I really enjoyed this short view into Lissa and what happened to her in high school and then currently. It's a novella. I'm glad she got a second chance. It was also good to see hear about some of the other people I'm getting to know and how they are doing. I'd love to hear and see Brad's reaction. LOL. What an asshat. Well, none of them acted like adults but they were high school students when it started. I should know better than to expect mature behavior.
