Potter's artistic and literary interests were deeply influenced by fairies, fairy tales and fantasy. Her best known picture book is The Tale of Peter Rabbit which was also her first publication. The great success was followed by the number of successful children's books about animals, such as The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin, The Tailor of Gloucester and The Tale of Benjamin Bunny. She carried on to write and illustrate until her diminishing eyesight made it difficult to continue. Potter's books continue to sell throughout the world in many languages with her stories being retold in song, film, ballet, and animation.

This book is just charming--both the author's illustrations and the text. She is able to anthropomorphize the lives of little creatures in nature and their adventures and misadventures in the world of huge human figures. The drawings of bunnies in little shoes and clogs are just precious in the best sense. This is a great book to fall asleep reading. It is hugely calming and embracing and allows readers to participate in the author's wonderfully detailed fantasy world. The stories are timeless and appeal to all ages, but are mandatory reading for little children.

This was such a pleasure to read all the books in order and see how the characters inhabited one another's stories. The stories made me laugh out loud on several occasions. Beatrix potter has so many stories that are classics. I've read some of them quite a few times, and never tire of them. Beatrix potter has so many stories that are classics. I've read some of them quite a few times, and never tire of them.

I decided to read these stories as a virtual bedtime story time for the library at which I work. I'm glad I did as these tales with anthropomorphic animal characters set in the bucolic English countryside of 100 years ago. Some of the stories are a little strange (ie. Tale of Pigling Bland); some are classics (ie. The Tale of Peter Rabbit and The Tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck); and there are hidden gems (ie. The Tailor of Gloucester [a Christmas story] and The Tale of Mr. Tod). Potter's color and p I decided to read these stories as a virtual bedtime story time for the library at which I work. These are simple tales much like those by the Brother's Grimm without the grimness and Han Christian Andersen without the pathos. Each child should experience at least a handful of these tales before growing old.

Super to Read to Your Grandchildren I loved reading this to my granddaughter every week. Since it had a dictionary, we could lookup unfamiliar terms and animals. We enjoyed exploring the fabulous realism and even the inferred violence of the animal world. We were dismayed when our over three thousand pages came to an end.

I hadn't realized this was "based" on the original stories. So!e of the language redo make it more understandable, but it loses omethjng, too, particularly (think to d) for The Tailor of Gloustershire " which has been my favourite. I've loved reading these again, made even better by seeing how excited my little one gets. Admittedly he's only interested in the pictures at the moment, but they're lovely little tales I'll never tire of reading. My older son enjoyed reading these when he was in kindergarten. Some of the plots were kind of strange; maybe just dated. And we had a good chuckle with some of the illustrations!

Took me back to my childhood. I enjoyed reading these books today as much as I did in my childhood!

We haven't finished all of the stories, but in general we love Beatrix Potter and her artistry, both with language and drawing. We haven't finished all of the stories, but in general we love Beatrix Potter and her artistry, both with language and drawing.

This was really cute. I read several of these stories as a child, and really enjoyed them. The drawings are the best part, but the stories are also interesting, even if some are better than others. Overall, this just made me happy.

There's nothing like revisiting your childhood with classic stories. There's nothing like revisiting your childhood with classic stories.

Peter Rabbit and friends is a bit hit with my little one. There are many short stories in the book and it held my attention too. I like the variety of animals pulled into the story line, the use of rhymes, and sounds and descriptions. I heard this as an audiobook and really enjoyed it.

Beatrix Potter As charming as I remember as a little girl, firstly being read these stories by my parents and grandparents to being the first books I read over and over again, with beautiful nostalgic illustrations. These books kick started my obsession with reading.
