I thought Rhiannon Frater was done with this world so this book was a nice surprise! I loved that it showed what happened pre-Bastion.

I could have done without some of the interactions between the characters. Specifically, the MC's 10 yr old niece annoyed me, but this is still a solid installment in the Bastion series. Book 1 is one of my all-time fave books. I could have done without some of the interactions between the characters. A fun ride Frater always delivers with her zombie stories - action packed, with real and kick ass characters who you can’t help but root for.

Another practically all-nighter. It's 2:42am and I couldn't put the book down. It was really good. The story of the kind of beginning of the Bastion. Not the inception, but when everyone escaped to it. I enjoyed it. Good book/good series. Another practically all-nighter. It's 2:42am and I couldn't put the book down. It was really good. I enjoyed reading this book. It was a different take on dystopian zombie apocalypse style books. It’s set into the future. Humanity survived but international human conflicts threaten the peace. I particularly enjoyed the military aspect of the book. The main character is a helicopter pilot. What a extremely useful skill in a apocalypse. I enjoyed every book from this author’s work.

Thank god for this book Because after like nine months I FINALLY found a zombie book without a cackling cartoon villain twirling his mustache with one hand and holding a huge sign saying “dun dun duuuun” in the other. Also her imagery is incredibly horrifying and the kids are like able characters that don’t make me want to eat my face off. Please do write about the big wars and outbreak preceding this book, but please avoid letting a fan write it like the last book; I want my zombies, not gratuitous sex scenes and sappy romance. Your writing is so much better at willing the suspension of disbelief.

It is an okay book. If you like The Walking Dead on TV, you will like this book. I am not a fan. I like science fiction, but not this book. It is well written, but not my cup of tea.
