It’s been a very long time since I’ve been excited about a new to me author, but Piper Rayne has drawn me in and I want to should her name from the rooftops. Lessons from a One-Night Stand is the first book in her new series The Bailey’s and if it is indicative of what’s to come sign me up and take my money. The book has everything I love about contemporary romance; intriguing characters from the two primary to the supporting cast, an intriguing storyline, enough conflict to keep it interesting but not so much I want to stab someone, steamy sex scenes, and a whole lot of heart. Good guy heroes are my crack and Austin Bailey defines good guy; leaving his life in California to come home and raise his 7 younger siblings along with his next oldest sister at age 21 has put him on a pedestal in the small town of Lake Starlight, Alaska. Given that his family is the town’s largest employer and because he came home and his sister took over running the company their family is revered. But Austin is counting down the days until his youngest siblings graduate from high school and he’s put out feelers to find a job coaching at a college in California so he can have a life of his own. First however, he has to deal with the new principal at the high school where he works who also happens to be his one night stand from the weekend before. Dr. Holly Radcliffe moved to Alaska for one reason and one reason only, to confront her father that left her behind as an infant. Normally very controlled and level headed, Holly accepted a short term assignment with the intention of meeting her father, what she didn’t expect is her one night stand to be a teacher at her school or the fact that she is so drawn to him. Yowzers, the heat rolling off these two was enough to melt all the snow in Alaska and then some. I loved the intensity of their attraction and the situation with the town’s gossip blog reporting on their every move, the family issues they were both dealing with, and the big decisions they both had to make. Most of all I appreciated the respect they had for one another, how easily they meshed, and how important they became to one another in a short amount of time. I don’t want to spoil this book for anyone, but I do want to say that it is expertly written with lots of layers. The characters jump into your heart and days later I am still thinking about them. Most of all this is a feel good story packed with a lot of emotion. Do yourself a favor, if you’ve never read author Piper Rayne, take a chance on this book, I think you’ll find the family dynamics intriguing and this romance will leave you satisfied, but anticipating the next book in the series.

Lessons from a one-night stand turned out to be a lot more than the rom-com I’d expected. Simple plot, sassy characters and a big family in a little town are the main ingredients of the first book in The Baileys series. Nine years ago, Austin Bailey had to say goodbye to his dream of being a professional basketball player when his parents died in a tragic accident. Without hesitation, he came back to his hometown to take responsibility for the kids while his sister Savannah took over the family lumber business. Although he is happy working at the local high school as a teacher and coaching the basketball team, he hasn’t forgotten his dream. The youngest Baileys, Phoenix and Sedona, are graduating this year and he can finally leave the town to coach a college team. You’ll find out one day that life has a way of changing what’s most important to you. Holly, the new Principal, can’t believe her luck when she discovers that the guy she made out with in a Jeep a couple of days ago is a teacher in the high school she's going to work. She wants to keep distance, but neither of them can’t resist the Chemistry they have. However, time is not on their side: they are leaving within three months. So they make a deal: just sex, no feelings attached. Easy, right? And if you believe that, you’re as stupid as Austin and I are in this moment. The book is written in dual POV, and you can see Holly (h) and Austin (H) are made for each other only by reading their thoughts. They are sassy, easy-going, and share the same humour, so the connection between them can’t be more real. Although the romance started really strong, it gets a bit repetitive and loses importance in the middle of the story over family drama. Also, the characters felt a bit plain so, even though they are likeable, I find it difficult to truly connect with them. However, big families are my weakness, so I still enjoyed the story. They are nine siblings plus an hilarious grandmother, so the fun is guaranteed. “Come to the high school and pick up Phoenix. She’s been suspended.” He laughs. “Classic. Why?” (..) “She put the high school for sale on Craigslist,” I say into the phone. Besides, I really enjoyed the relationship between Austin and the teenagers he coaches. High school and family dramas are a great addition to the otherwise simple plot of this book. “Coach!” (...) “JP asked Becca out!” “So beat the shit out of him.” It’s out of my mouth before I can stop myself. Elijah stops for a second but quickly catches up to me. “Seriously?” “No. Don’t do that.” Although I would’ve. Another tiny detail I loved it’s that Savannah (Austin’s sister) took over the family business, while Austin (H) took responsibility for the kids. I know it is a small little thing and I only hope there is a future where this kind of thing doesn't stand up. “I don’t need some man to come in and save me. I’ll do it myself.” Overall, I enjoy the book. It was a bit simple, but the family dynamics made up for that. If you enjoy series like The Bridgerton, you are going to love this one. Lessons from a One-night Stand has all the features: the team of siblings (plus one), an iconic old lady (Austin’s grandmother) and even a source that publishes all the juice gossip (The Buzz Wheel blog)!! “What happened?” “If I’m right, then my sister threw a coffee mug at your dad’s face, and now she’s in jail and he’s pressing charges.”

This book was everything I love about Piper Rayne books. If you're not already on the bandwagon this is a good place to start. When I first read the blurb for this story I didn't realise it was the kick off for a longer family series. But I am so glad it is. And I am really really looking forward to seeing how he deals with all of his siblings falling in love. Holly was the ideal match for Austin and I enjoyed getting to know her and seeing her realise who was important in her life. I am hoping we are going to see more of her mum and friend going forward. Buzz wheel was an awesome addition to the story I am looking forward to catching up on future gossip through it. It really makes me wish I lived in a small town with a gossip blog of it's own.

She was a scene stealer for sure, but it didn’t take away from the epic romance that builds between our wonderful main characters. To finally reach for his dreams, his new dream of coaching college baseball. He is gonna finish this year of teaching and coaching and then hopefully move on to bigger and better things.  What Austin doesn't expect was that his random one-night stand, would become is boss when his regular boss was out on maternity leave, and that he would get feelings for her.  Holly had no idea that her one-night stand was going to be her new employee.  When she moved to Alaska, it was for 3 months. To finish the school year as the principal and they to re-connect with her father.  When she realizes her mistake with Austin, she knows she can't do it again. But she also knows it is not going to be that easy.  When Austin and Holly decided to be "friends with benefits", they both think everything will work out. (Yea right)  What happens when Austin decides to leave? What happens when Holly is offered a job? Will everything change? Will they decided to go their separate ways? Will someone give up their dream to let the other one get theirs?  I really enjoyed this story. There were some parts that were predictable but that was okay. I laughed and I even cried.  One thing I love about Piper Rayne is that I always get my HEA. I know it is coming but I just have to see how we get there.  I am excited to see what stories the rest of the Bailey clan gets.

Lessons from a One-Night Stand was the first book in the Baileys series by Piper Rayne. It was my first book by the authors. The Baileys were the heart and soul of Lake Starlight, Alaska. He returned to Lake Starlight, accepted a position at the High School as a coach and teacher and raised his siblings until the youngest were now seniors in high school about to graduate. The authors set the stage well for the series. I loved the family dynamics and there was promise for a great series. I can’t wait to read all of their stories. Lessons From A One Night Stand was Austin’s story and how can you not love Austin. He was sexy, smart, funny, loyal and gorgeous. Holly Radcliffe was the temporary High School Principal, covering a maternity leave until the end of the year. She was pretty straight laced, but likable as well. And I loved her best friend Dana, she needed a Bailey brother as well, but I digress. The storyline was light hearted and fun and I was engaged from the beginning to the end. It also had some life lessons packed into it, providing additional substance and depth. Although the main storyline was fairly predictable, I enjoyed the journey and the stage was set for a successful and entertaining series. Next up is Brooklyn in Advice From a Jilted Bride.

Lessons from a One-Night Stand bored and annoyed me at the same time. Although there were some great moments in the book, it wasn't enough to hold my attention. Instead of making me enjoy my reading time, it was slowly sucking the will to live out of me. The family (no matter how diverse—in chosen careers—it was) felt unimaginative to me. The family (no matter how diverse—in chosen careers—it was) felt unimaginative to me. To the point where I had to ask myself, "Really, do they need to be that obvious?" Not even one of them spoke to me in a way that would make my heart racing, knowing I would get to read their own book as well soon. There were also a lot of inconsistencies and/or just pure ridiculous stuff. On top of this list, there was the infamous Buzz Wheel. I am just hoping, the revelation of who is behind it won't be a big part of plot twist in one of the following books. It was getting on my nerves right from the beginning. Right behind it, there would be that incredible one-night stand. (view spoiler)[Reading this story, I was not sure what did actually happen, to be honest. At first, there was mentioned finger-fucking in an alley. Then some steamed car windows with a handprint—yeah, we definitely know which movie this particular image was borrowed from...—but at the same time, we got no other information about it. Did they both decided one little finger-fucking was enough and call it a day (or a night) without getting each other's names. That didn't fit into the whole "their chemistry is off-charts" storyline—which I didn't get because they had the same chemistry as a rock and a bird—and, more importantly, it didn't fit the hero's or heroine's character. I think Piper Rayne knew it as well and that's why they haven't included the "incident" scene into the story and just flew past it. (hide spoiler)] As I said, there was a lot of things that bugged me, but how the town was worshipping this family was beyond laughable. (view spoiler)[Especially, when it's become clear they wanted the hero to date the heroine so he would stay in town, simultaneously forgetting the fact, the heroine was supposed to leave in three months. And look at that, after a while, the previous principal has decided, she wouldn't come back to work and the townspeople's dream was in their grasp. I had not expected that at all. And that was a sarcasm. (hide spoiler)]

Piper Rayne delivers the first book in their brand new series, The Baileys, and it did not disappoint! I’m a sucker for a family saga—add in a charming hero and witty heroine, I am sucked in for the long haul! These characters were funny, relatable, and real, making it an addictive page turner I couldn’t get enough of! I’m literally so obsessed, I dreamt about them and have a huge book hangover! 5+ Stars from me!

3 Stars I don't know what happened, but I feel like this isn't the type of characters or writing that I've come to expect from Piper Rayne. I loved her Modern Love and Single-Dads series, but this one just didn't capture my attention. The conflict was just so-so and the characters themselves annoyed me a little bit (especially Austin's siblings *looking at you Phoenix*). I loved her Modern Love and Single-Dads series, but this one just didn't capture my attention. The conflict was just so-so and the characters themselves annoyed me a little bit (especially Austin's siblings *looking at you Phoenix*). It really says a lot when the side-characters ruin your reading experience and enjoyment of the main couple. The high school kids were so disrespectful and crossed the line of appropriateness so many times that I had to suspend my disbelief that this was a real high school. No teacher or principal that I've ever known would allow multiple students to talk that way to them *literally to their face* about their personal lives and sexual relationships. The status that the Bailey family holds in this small town was just too much. I mean, an entire parade that happens every year that celebrates the family? A bit overboard if you ask me. The people living in this town are so overbearingly opinionated about what Austin does with his life and I felt so sorry for him. Spoilers about the ending: (view spoiler)[ To top it all off...when the hero has to be chased down, coerced, guilted into not moving away by multiple people as he is literally in the airport prepared to leave the heroine.... that's just not a good reason to stay. Don't get me wrong, I liked Austin and I thought it was totally unfair how everyone in Lake Starlight made him feel bad about wanting to experience life separate from being a parent to his siblings - but for the love of God, LET HIM GO! I would have preferred if Austin had a chance to coach for USC for a year and then returned having fulfilled his dream first. It's not wrong for him to have wanted a temporary change of scenery. Holly could have also gone with him for a year and then they both return to Lake Starlight. The writing was a bit of a mess and I think this sums up my feelings about the book: "Please just accept that I'm a smart man and I know what I'm doing here. I'm telling you I was stupid." Yea.... so you're smart and stupid? Glad we got that cleared up. It's like this book was having an identity crisis and suffered from way too many plot points and side characters. The siblings could have been introduced gradually. All we needed was Austin, Savannah, Sedona, and Phoenix *though did we really need her? Up for debate. She's annoying*. (hide spoiler)]

There is no denying the chemistry and heat between these characters but when you throw in the one of a kind Bailey family (NINE siblings!), this small town full of quirky characters and teenager antics in school, you will get comedy and drama and romance that will make you smile and make it so hard to put this book down. I LOVED Austin's care of his family given the circumstances, I loved that he always puts them first despite his dreams and goals. But more than that, I loved his care for Holly, how he wants to protect and care for her and their heat... just WOW! Just this one little taste of this family dynamic makes me wants more and I can't wait to dive into the next book. The Buzz Wheel was freakin hysterical and I can't wait to come back to Lake Starlight, Alaska!

Really cute. I liked the small town romance between Austin and Holly. The gossip rag narrating their tryst was fun and quite funny. Austin was really great and I felt for the dilemma he was in. It wouldn't have been so hard if he wasn't so drawn to Holly and the guilt trip his family laid on him. I also really adored Holly. Sh Really cute. I liked the small town romance between Austin and Holly. The gossip rag narrating their tryst was fun and quite funny. Austin was really great and I felt for the dilemma he was in. She was super sweet and put Austin's dreams above the fact that she was really falling for him. Despite that her time in town was supposed to be temporary it didn't stop her from falling head over heels for everything and everyone in the little town. Lessons from a One-Night Stand was super sweet and absolutely adorable to read.

This series will follow a family of nine siblings as they each find their HEAs. In LESSONS FROM A ONE-NIGHT STAND we are gifted with Austin's story, Austin is the eldest of the siblings and nine years ago Austin changed his course in life and returned to Lake Starlight, Alaska to raise his younger siblings after the tragic death of his parents. Now that the youngest are graduating high school it's time for Austin to chase his dreams again and go after a coaching position at the college level in California. Holly has just moved to Lake Starlight to fill in as Principal at the high school while the current Principal is out on maternity leave, this is a temporary position and it is perfect for what she has planned and falling for someone definitely wasn't in her plans. The fun starts when Austin realizes that his Saturday night One-Night Stand is now his boss, oh but it doesn't stop there, nope there is a picture of them getting it on in the back of his jeep in the towns blog! You can check it out here Lake Starlight Buzz Wheel. Too Funny!!! I am dying to know who the blogger is and I do hope at some point its revealed because I do have my suspicions but you just never know..... Austin and Holly are great together. I really enjoyed not only their chemistry but they way they were with one another, they did want to keep things private but also dropped their guard when the other needed them. Amazing! Piper & Rayne are off to an amazing start with this series and I cannot wait to read the rest of the books. We get to know most of the siblings in this book so from the book titles I am hoping that Savannah and Liam will get their HEA but hey you just never know, the one mysterious Bailey sibling is Kingston - I wonder what his story is...... This book is a no brainier to recommend, its funny, its emotional, its steamy, its such an enjoyable read you'll be glad you gave it a chance. Happy Reading!!!

I'm always incredibly excited whenever I see that the amazing author duo of Piper and Rayne have something new planned...so when I first heard about their upcoming series, The Baileys, centred around nine siblings from a small town in Alaska called Lake Starlight...I was immediately intrigued! This is Piper Rayne's biggest planned series yet and the entire series sounds so fabulous! Now that I've finished the first book, LESSONS FROM A ONE-NIGHT STAND, which was all about the oldest Bailey sibling, Austin, I'm even more excited because this book was amazing!!! When it comes to characters, relationships, and dynamics between characters of any kind, Piper and Rayne are absolute experts! They have a way of crafting a world through their characters and all of their relationships, whether they're romantic, familiar, and filial (just about the friendship), and they always make them extremely well-rounded and never fail to compel me to want to read more. In LESSONS FROM A ONE-NIGHT STAND they're at their best! We saw nine different Bailey siblings and we got to see just how different each and every one of them was. I'm so excited to get a story for each of them...and I adore that Piper Rayne decided to focus each story around a well-known romance trope! Austin and Holly's story was clearly centred around the whole mystery one-night stand backfiring trope...and let me tell you it was executed to rom-com perfection! Austin and Holly themselves were amazing! Austin was a total fox and he was such a wonderful, thoughtful, and generous person. He had me swooning more than once, and I definitely can't wait to see him pop up in the future books. And I loved Holly, too! I loved how strong she was, and I loved that despite her strength she also had a vulnerable side. Together they were even better and I loved their steamy chemistry and I adored how they complemented one another! I also loved seeing how they fit into the Lake Starlight community! There's a certain gossip blog that seems like it's going to be pretty central to this series that I think everyone is going to get a real kick out of...I know I did! I also loved the Bailey matriarch, Grandma Dori! ;D Overall, I absolutely loved LESSONS FROM A ONE-NIGHT STAND! It's an extremely strong start to Piper Rayne's biggest plan series yet, and it has me tremendously excited for what's in store for this series yet! Next up is Brooklyn's story: ADVICE FROM A JILTED BRIDE...can't wait! I've always loved Piper and Rayne's character dynamics the best so the fact that we're going to get to see all of these characters for nine books has me thrilled! If you're a fan of rom-coms, especially if you love intricate companion series that are able to be read as standalones, then I think you'll love this, too...and I definitely think anyone who loves rom-coms in general will absolutely adore Austin and Holly! Highly, highly recommend this one...and I definitely suggest all rom-com fans check out Piper Rayne's backlist, too! ;)

This series will center around the Bailey siblings in Lake Starlight, Alaska and I am already so much in love with this family! Austin Bailey and Holly Radcliffe's story is a fun, charming, and addictively captivating read that had me swooning every step of their journey. I loved the dynamic between these two likable characters and enjoyed all the laughs they brought me. Romantic comedies are my ultimate weaknesses and Piper Rayne always delivers the perfect read! Fans or unicorns as many of us like to call ourselves will fall head over heels in love with this storyline and the characters! Trust me it was an incredible read and one of my favorites thus far! I cannot wait for the next release in the series because I am so excited for more from this amazing family! Get ready to love the Baileys when you dive into Lessons from a One-Night Stand! You are all going to love it!

For those that read my reviews, you will know that I am a big fan of the Piper Rayne duo and I consider myself one of their unicorns. I already had an inkling I was going to enjoy this book, and I loved it. From the fact that the Bailey family is nine siblings who resemble the family from Party of Five to the fact that the town has their gossip blog and Gossip girl star whom I have my bets on that it is one of the Bailey sisters - but like Gossip Girl it is not revealed, and we have no clues of the secret identity. The other thing I loved about Lessons from a One Night Stand was that we have a high school setting as the main characters are teachers/principals and the family dynamics of the Baileys. Piper Rayne's family dynamics and humor of The Baileys I found rivaled Penny Reid's Winston Family. This is one book you won't be disappointed with, and I am now looking forward to reading more of the Bailey Siblings tales and the drama/ situations they find themselves in as trouble seems to follow the Baileys whether they encourage it or not.

This book was so MUCH FUN TO READ! I am thankful I received an ARC because I was dying to already read it just from the blurb! When Austin realizes that his one night in the back of his jeep stand is walking right towards him, of all places but his work. Not to mention the fact that he just somewhat inappropriately introduced her to the school. You'd think a man would ask more than a single answer questions in one night stands? Nope they don't so note to self for the future! I LOVED LOVED LOVED Ho This book was so MUCH FUN TO READ! I am thankful I received an ARC because I was dying to already read it just from the blurb! Something I love reading about. When the two try and keep it "professional" that one night-stand turns into a one night-sleep again stand! (face-palm)! This is a sexy, sweet and very addicting book! Be-ware you will not want to stop and will swipe through fast just to get more and more! I knew this would have been a good book but APPLAUSE to Piper Rayne because this knocked it out of the ballpark! The characters, the writing and the smooth connecting words! A bookworms dream! I rate this a HIGH 5 PLUS & HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Take the ride, it's an exhilarating one! H A P P Y - R E A D I N G!

When high school biology teacher and baseball Coach Austin Bailey realizes the new sexy Principal, Holly Radcliffe, not only looks familiar but is his one night-stand from a few nights earlier, the fireworks could not be any more potent between them. But with both of them with one foot out the door (and their connection to strong to be denied,) they are forced to reevaluate what they really want and need in life. I really enjoyed this story as it was surprisingly emotionally charged. I felt the connection between Holly and Austin immediately and hoped they would be able to see what was right in front of them. I loved that Austin was such a strong and solid alpha with such a devotion to his family. I can't wait for Brooklyn's book and more antics from Lake Starlight! Bravo! 4.5 stars! ~Ratula
