Grace Takes Off is the 4th book in the A Manor House series. At the last minute they need to change their flight plans and Nico's staff has secured them seats on flight back to Charlotte. On the light back home Grace is going to the galley to thank the stewardess for her attentiveness and notices another passenger putting a drug on Bennett's meal that would have surely killed him. Then when another passenger ends up dead, Grace is really concerned about Bennett's safety. Once back at The Manor, Grace and Bennett begin to look into just who might want to see Bennett dead. At the same time they want to find out just how much of Nico' art collection might be forgeries, as they suspect they might be connected. Hyzy gives the reader a well plotted story and exciting story that kept me guessing till the end as to who was behind wanting Bennett out of the picture. All the recurring characters are back to help and lend support to Grace as she attempts to get to the bottom of this dilemma. I'm even appreciating Frances more in each book. I can't wait for the next book in this wonderful series.

I love the Grace Wheaton mysteries by Julie Hyzy! In "Grace Takes Off" I feel that Grace is finally starting to come into her own as the manager of Marshfield Manor. I really, really enjoyed this one. A cozy with a bit more depth than usual but still staying well within the genre. I'd forgotten how good Hyzy's cozy mysteries are... The mystery was complex. The misdirection was well done- I was off on a tangent for a quite a while before I realized I had the wrong person. I do enjoy how the main relationship is not the romantic one but the paternal one between Grace and Bennett. It's refreshing. Enjoyed the characters, enjoyed the mystery. Highly recommend. Being a cozy mystery novel, the fourth in this excellent series, A Manor House Mystery, I set back in my upholstered chair with a calm cup of tea to enjoy renewing my book friendship with Museum Curator, Grace Wheaton, and her boss, Bennett Marshfield. To my delight, I found we were 'vacationing' in Tuscany. The description of the location, smells, air perfumed with Olive Oil, and more quickly transported me there with the duo. Grace and Bennett were guests on their last leg of a two-week vacation/work trip to France and Italy, of Bennett's long time friend, Nico, a fellow Billionaire. Something was just off at the villa though. Grace and Bennett overheard heated arguments in the hallways. There was tension among the staff and family. We learn that the Son was estranged from the family, and even worse, Bennett finds a skilled forgery of a skull crafted by Picasso! Not wanting to worry his ailing friend, Bennett decides to keep the information to himself until they return to North Carolina. However, even that becomes a trial. The private jet is cancelled due to a mysterious arrest of the pilot, and forces the couple to join another jet leaving the next day, leased by a rock band. I could go on and almost tell you the entire plot and scenes but it would spoil the book for you. I will just say...fasten your seat belt and get ready for a bumpy ride. Ms. Hyzy is an amazing action scene author. She puts you right in the scene and you find yourself caught up in the action. I'm still recovering from the trauma. Each novel in this series is gaining strength and content. It is so well crafted that I'm amazed we don't hear more about the book. Please go out and tell others about this series, and the White House Chef one also. They are truly worthy of note.

This has been my favorite of the series, so far. As the book begins, Grace and Bennett have taken off for a European trip. During their brief stay, Bennett notices that one of his friend’s priceless art treasures is a fake. He suspects that others may also be fake, but Grace and Bennett are due to leave Tuscany the next morning and they don’t have time to investigate. I really enjoyed the change of scenery for the opening of “Grace Takes Off,” followed by a long chunk of the tale taking place on their chartered flight home from Italy. I was originally thinking that the set-up to the plot for this installation would be brief, but a good half of the book is either set in Italy or in the air over the Atlantic. Several familiar faces in this book, as well as some new and fun additions to the cast of characters. I especially like the character of Adam and I hope he is in future books. Frances also continues to grow on me and I still want to know more about Grace’s roommates! They always seem to just dance along the sidelines of the story. To be honest, I don’t know what to make of Jack anymore. I think Grace should just write him off completely, but I also think that we’d miss something potentially great between the pair of them. I’m hoping for some resolution in the next book. Overall, “Grace Takes Off” was fast-paced and exciting. By the near-end, I was able to astound myself and my friends by, once again, correctly making a guess about the culprit. I continue to truly enjoy Julie Hyzy’s writing and books.

But their troubles increase on the plane; by the time they land there are two bodies on board and Grace is convinced that Bennett is a target. But WHO is trying to kill him, and WHY? I like this series but am getting tired of Grace’s inability to keep her nose out of things that don’t concern her. I perplexed that with all her “experience” solving cases that she can’t identify the culprit earlier. (I knew the villain the moment said person appeared on the page.) And more importantly, I’m tired of her very poor choices when it comes to the men in her life. Frances (Grace’s irascible assistant) and Ronny Tooney (wannabe private investigator) both have roles to play, though I’d like to see them more involved. Ditto Scott and Bruce, Grace’s roommates. As for Hilary … I could do without her; she’s a ridiculous caricature of a money-grubbing airhead. I read cozy mysteries because they are fast and enjoyable. They’re my reading snack food. So I'll read more of this series, but may take a break for a while.

Once Grace and Bennett get back to the Manor they start to look into who wanted Bennett killed and why. And how did that Picasso piece become a fake?! This is an exciting story with a twisting plot that had me guessing till the end. It was an ending I did not see coming.

I have to tell you, Julie Hyzy, our intrepid author is beginning to annoy me. LOL This little adventure taking place on two continents had me swinging in the wind trying to figure things out. Her plot twists and fairly large ensemble of players this time will keep you guessing what is really happening all the way to the end of the book. In fact things were in such at tumult at times I figured Grace would feel like she was underwater.

I did enjoy this and sped through it, as I do all Hyzy works, but felt amused and excited from the get-go. Hyzy can surely spin an excting tale, even if it ends up being a little hokey at times. While not as good as her White House Chef series and still more watered down than some of her Alex. St. James work, Hyzy does present some great work. Kudos, Madam Hyzy for this. A great beach chair read or aboard an airplane. That said, perhaps not the latter, due to the content in the first half!

Hyzy keeps you guessing up until the end of this next great installment in the Mansion Mysteries. It starts in Italy and ends up back at the Marshfield mansion, with a critical portion of the action taking place on a private jet. Grace and Bennett pursue a mystery involving art, a rock band, and family intrigue, with elements of her love life floating in and out.

This is the best Manor House Mystery to date. Julie Hyzy is capable and successful at writing two great series at virtually the same time. Few authors can pull that off. Grace shows much more character this time and even displays a bit of anger. The Italian villa, the crazy charter flight, the weird Rock Band and the art thievery all contribute to a great summer read.

Still, by the end and its dramatic climax, all becomes clear and Grace relaxes at Hugo's with her roommates, with the case solved and the perps in custody. Naturally, this is too simple and in the final scene someone enters and joins their table as Grace scooches over to provide room How can a reader not like a book by an author who uses scooch, not once but several times, in her story?

I listened to the unabridged audio edition of this book which I obtained free from my local public library. While I have enjoyed all of the books in this series, this fourth installment is one of the best so far. I certainly enjoyed it more than #2 or #3. There was too much happening in this book that just stretched credulity. Grace and Bennett make good characters so I won’t give up on this series yet, but a return to reality is needed in the next book.

Another fun mystery. Grace, with her Uncle Bennett, visits one of his friends in Italy and realizes that one of the friend's art treasures is really a replica. Trouble on the plane on the way home adds to the mystery. A good read! Another fun mystery. I have always enjoyed the books in this series. After I started reading this one, I realized I had already read it but still liked it as I had forgotten who the villains were.
