This short story is part of an 11-story (sort of) series by various authors called Second Helpings (similar to The Cocktail Girls and Halloween Honeys ). Each (save one, in my opinion) is a second-chance story of couples who reunite at Thanksgiving. Each entry is the series is a short story of 30-50 pages, or so, and run from medium to high heat. All stories are stand-alone and can be read in any order. And, I don’t think I give anything away to say they’re all served with a happy ending. While none are horrible (I didn’t hate any of them), some are better than others. (All stories in the series are listed below.) Hot Apple Pie by Laney Powell is the story of Sam and Nadia. Nadia is home for Thanksgiving after having broken up with her fiancé. Sam is a man (boy) she crushed on when she was younger. Sam, too, crushed on Nadia, but neither ever did anything about it. Now that Nadia’s single, Sam’s not going to miss his chance. While I liked this story, I never quite got the feeling that Nadia was/is in love with Sam. The story was sweet and from Sam’s POV was romantic. I wish there had been a bit more of their backstory so I’d root more for them. As it was, I wanted the best for Sam and was happy Nadia ended up happy, too. Also, I don’t know if it was a continuity error or just the character not really wanting to explain, but we get two stories of why Nadia’s engagement ended. Other titles in the series: Alexis Adaire - Wishboned:Second Helpings Tessa Blake - Man-Berry Sauce:Second Helpings Sher Dillard - Roll Play:Second Helpings Olivia Hawthorne - Cold Turkey:Second Helpings Sierra Hill - Whipped:Second Helpings Dori Lavelle - Dirty Dessert:Second Helpings Tracy Lorraine - Cheeky Trifle:Second Helpings Frankie Love - Baby Gravy:Second Helpings Derek Masters - Double Stuffed:Second Helpings Laney Powell - Hot Apple Pie:Second Helpings Vivian Ward - His Meaty Drumstick:Second Helpings From Tessa Blake’s book (Man-Berry Sauce:Second Helpings): Thank you so much to all my co-conspirators for making what started as a dumb dirty joke into an amazing, fun project. I love you all! From Tracy Lorraine’s book (Cheeky Trifle:Second Helpings): You know that moment when a friend says something as a joke but then it somehow takes on a life of its own? Well, that’s the Second Helpings series. What started off as some tongue-in-cheek Thanksgiving book title ideas turned into a series of sexy shorts, so thanks for that, Alexis Adaire! This was a very quick, very fun, little project that had us all crying with laughter. So I want to say thank you to all involved for making me step outside my comfort zone and come up with this sexy little short. All normal service can now resume, until one of you has another idea, anyway.

i read this short story as part of an arc program. This is part of the Second Helpings series about Thanksgiving by a variety of authors. Sam and Nadia grew up together and were best friends. Sam was raised by his grandmother and now was a successful businessman, Sam noticed Nadia didn't wear her engagement ring and hoped she was now single and he could get his chance. Sam and Nadia flirted with each other and after dinner they went for a walk together. Sam confessed his feelings and Nadia was shocked to learn he felt the same way she did. I liked this story, i thought Sam and Nadia were great together and i think her grandmother thought so too. This was a steamy read that has a hea. Good one.

Seeing that Nadia is recently single, Sam is going after the woman he wants. The chemistry between Sam and Nadia is clear to see and I liked them together. I thought that they made a cute couple. I really disliked Nadia’s cousin Carla. Carla’s jealousy and venom is clear to see. I loved that Sam wasn’t interested in Carla what so ever. The storyline for this book is easy to follow and a nice read.

Great Second Chance story Hot Apple Pie tells the second chance story of Nadia & Sam. Nadia & Sam grew up together. They both secretly crushed on each other but never acted on it. They moved on with their lives in different directions until a chance encounter at Thanksgiving dinner brings them & their past feelings together. Hot steamy & oh so sweet. Loving Second Helpings. Christmas is coming and Nadia is all alone with no boyfriend. But then she is invited to a family dinner by her mum and there is no excuse for her not to be there. However, despite her fears, when she gets there she sees Sam. The boy she grew up with whose grandmother is hosting the meal. They liked each other all those years but nothing happened. I loved this quick and dirty treat by Laney Powell. After getting dumped before Thanksgiving, the last thing Nadia wants to do is spend the day with her extended family. Things look up however when her childhood crush Sam shows up for lunch too. Sam has wanted Nadia for a long time but last time he saw her she had a fiancé with her. Thankfully he no longer has a fiancé standing in his way. Sparks definitely fly between them despite her obnoxious cousin Carla trying to get her hooks into Sam. This was a steamy second chance at love story. Both Nadia and Sam had had crushes on each other when they were younger but never acted on it. After being dumped by her fiance, Nadia dreaded spending Thanksgiving with her relatives and the accompanying inquisition. Sam takes the opportunity to flirt with Nadia and they end up escaping into the backyard treehouse and having sexy times. She gets dumped by boyfriend. It is the holidays and of course like a mother she won't take no on her coming home. So in she comes with her arms full of pie and guess who is there. The one man she crushed on when she was younger. Little does she know he felt the same. This holiday is going to be fun and she doesn't even know it. Finding love when you least expect it Nadia is dreading going to her grandmother’s house for Thanksgiving. No longer engaged, she doesn’t want to be bombarded with questions. She doesn’t expect Sam, an old friend, to be there. She certainly didn’t expect for sparks to fly. This was a great, quick read. Nadia & Sam are adorable. This is my first book of Laney’s & I’m looking forward to reading more of her books!

This is a very quick read but quite fun and steamy. The book offers a plot that I think comes across as super relatable and genuine. Nadia and Sam were very cute together and their scenes sizzled. This is a second chance romance that inspires lots of feels and swoony moments. This is my sincere, frank review.
