Ehhhhhhhh. Let’s talk about this book. Read some reviews from my RHR fam. Loved them. Love y’all. Super hyped for this book. Beginning: My initial thoughts had me all sorts of confused. We are first introduced to four men.. who I THOUGHT were gonna be the harem. Ya I know they’re in their 40s but I mean, there are A LOT of hot 40 year olds sooo that wasn’t alarming. But then..... One says he’s her uncle and I’m thinking: SHE’S GONNA BE AN UNCLEFUCKER!! (I was actually slightly intrigued. So I booked a trip to my therapist) But turns out Silva (NOT Silvia)’s nephews, AKA the boys, are the harem. Good to know. Cancelled my therapist appt immediately. Shit’s expensive. Why range rovers? Really? Always Range Rovers. Can’t they drive Audi’s? Mercedes? BMW? Fewer letters. Just sayin. Some of the aspects were close to the Redemption series and I was starting to get concerned. Because Vinna is not nearly as badass. She’s just not. There, I said it. 😬 Middle: I’m not gonna lie these dudes laugh A LOT and I have yet to laugh ONCE. There is no humor. I think I skipped the part where they introduced the men of the harem properly because I can’t picture any of them. And the personalities are lacking just a bit at the beginning. Things progress so... weirdly. I find the entire thing odd. End: Thank the moons that tickling described as “delicious torture” is towards the end of the book because HAHAHAHAhahahahahhaditbeenatthebeginningIwouldhaveleft. Tickling=bloody nose and a knee to the balls in my book. There was just NO depth to it. Some of the timing was off, like with Sabin. Where does Lachlan’s coven come into all of this? Why are the guys practically faceless to me? Why do Vinna’s emotions feel so shallow? I just feel like the execution could have better set these characters up. But it was so very uninteresting. Am I ready for book two? Idk. There were some seriously lacking action scenes. The whole book ended up being her and the boys getting to know each other. Then some small amount of A&A at the veryyyyy end. Meh. Just wasn’t for me I guess.

Weird combo I know but that's the feelings this gave me while reading it. It started out pretty epic, Vinna has a background of abuse and we find her in a fighting ring. With powers from an unknown heritage she is pretty badass. She quickly meets others with magic like hers and is whisked off to a world of supernaturals to find out who she is. I don't want to spoil too much but I will say it takes a turn after 30% into more of a typical RH, meeting her harem and bringing to trust people again after a life of relying on only herself. Shopping, going to clubs, days away at the lake ... you see where TVD vibes comes in It's not a smooth ride but the book is a decent length so at least we get some more action along with the relationship building. It's medium burn always a plus and you're left kinda hanging at the end waiting for book 2 ( but not the big cliffhanger I was waiting on from the blurb) thankfully we do get some answers before the end. Ok so it wasn't perfect. There were things I would change. There was too many names from coven members and some of those names were very similar and therefore hard to remember who was who. The characters were all over 20 but it reminded me of a high school romance - they lacked a bit of maturity I would expect from someone mid twenties. I would have liked it all to have continued in the same vein as the first 30% but I enjoyed this so much regardless I can't see any other books by you Ivy so as your debut novel...you nailed it No problem recommending this to anyone. It's good a good mix of action and relationships. Vinna is such a great MC and undefeated at kicking ass so I can't wait for more of her. Please Santa bring me book 2

I liked this one and the main reason was because the heroine was a badass. Though the harem dynamic just seemed out of the blue because I initially thought she was going to be with Lachlan and his crew, they were a lot older and one of them was her uncle, still I could have dug into that :) . Hopefully the boys are given more depth because they seem to laugh a lot at almost nothing. I want them to brood a little. Already have book two locked and loaded.

The book started absolutely great. Vinna had the potential to be an incredibly badass character, a younger and less tragic version of Sawyer from A Life Of Shadows , and with probably one of the best powers I've came across so far. And then boys came into her life and it ruined it for me. More awesomeness, less flustered virginal flowers! And now, I am conflicted between walking away or getting my Vinna Power Fix with the next book. Edit: or not. You might also like: + A Life Of Shadows

I profoundly thank the author for this wonderful story and for not leaving a heart wrenching cliffhanger, which I am sure would have killed me in this instance. I don't even know where to start, maybe first by thanking my lucky stars for landing another great author and another great story in my library. The story is really great, it is beautifully written and it employs a new fresh approach to paranormal community. The world is masterfully crafted, although I have a feeling that the author has only scratched the surface of what is to come and I am looking forward to anticipated expansions.  The characters could not be better invented and developed, and the author has spent a significant effort on addressing cultural diversities (not necessarily in traditional sense) and gender equality, as well as various socially acceptable norms. Of course I love her for that, and of course she immediately got added to my favourites list. Like that wasn't enouugh to win me over, she created this incredible main character Vinna, who is a lean, mean, undefeated, fighting machine, and at times a killing machine, with an unparalleled attitude, utter lack of any insecurities, fearless, strong, intelligent, and could not care less what people think. And on top of that, Vinna possesses a huge heart, compassion, empathy, and loyalty of the best heroes. Obviously, since this is a romance and reverse harem, there are some very interesting love interests, and there are diverse and lovely, each in his own way. But most importantly, this book is loaded with all kinds of other characters, some good, some bad, dome in between, some intriguing, but so many of them, it was just amazing. There is a lot of love and support, there is betrayal and hatred, there is greed and quest for power, there is everything, and the story is loaded with action. That's why I couldn't put it down. The ending answers some of the most pressing questions, however it is vague enough to leave the reader wondering what happens next. Regardless of the lack of apparent cliffhanger, I loved this story so much that I'll be in agony waiting for the next book which is announced for January 2019.

Help. I dont know what is up, but maybe i need to stop reading romances for a while... I think I'm either in a curmudgeonly mood lately, or I've read to many of these kind of books that my brain is just tired-and everything is overly cheesy to me. I mean so many things were bugging me. Mostly... I came to learn about magic and what I can do. Instead, I’m trying to untangle myself from useless attraction and mooning over why my uncle doesn’t care about me. Mostly... I came to learn about magic and what I can do. Instead, I’m trying to untangle myself from useless attraction and mooning over why my uncle doesn’t care about me. I’ve been here for only a couple of weeks, and I feel more confused and lost than I ever have before. The h went from a badass fighter with serious skills, and confidence in herself- to this giggly, confused, horny, teenager (even though she's an adult). I mean all of the leads kind of acted like teenage hornballs after only knowing each other for 5 mins. If she spend less time drooling over them constantly I think I would have had I bit more fun in the beginning. What the hell is going on? I’m drooling like a teething baby all over these strangers, and I have no idea where that’s coming from. Your vagina, Vinna, it’s coming from your vagina I’m beyond grateful and a little surprised that I make it through the door without suddenly stopping and trying to lick one of these guys. I almost lose all my self-control and start rubbing all over him like a needy cat. I should look away when he adjusts himself, but my raging hormones have apparently fried my brain, so I just gawk. Great, let’s just add one more temptation to the overfilled plate that is my libido This is only after a few days. Wheres the romance? The build up? I think I'd be less annoyed if they were teens....but this insta love/hormone addled/ 'My traitorous body"/mates-romance was kind of annoying. Not to mention that she's constantly getting thrown over a shoulder, or scolded for 'going into danger' despite the fact that she's more capable than any of them, or how she's not like other caster women, or the cutsie nicknames. Little warrior, little caster, Little Badass, Bruiser, little witch, Squeaks... You get it. But like I said I stuck with reading this, and eventually the story got a little less trope minefield, and I enjoyed the overall premise. So if this kind of thing doesn't bother you, and your into reverse harem/ magical world with supernaturals then I'd say give it a try on KU. I can see a lot of people liking this way more than I did!

Trust me, read this book. Pros: ~Very well written. ~Very well edited. ~Character development, at least when it comes to Vinna. Her voice literally speaks through the pages, bleeding into every crevice the plot could possibly create. ~Twists and turns.... there are so many! Nothing is as it seems. ~The story smacks you, then coaxes you to love it. ~The big reveal is brilliantly 'BIG'. Cons: ~Cliffhanger... painful. ~Some of the twists and turns are tragic... yet tragically needed. ~The guys are very important, but then again... they often are not in terms of plot.

Rating 4.5 stars I'm not sure where to start but wow what a mess for a young bad-ass female. Vinna didn't have a good start to her life but Talon was her savior of sorts but there are things that Vinna has and doesn't understand until she comes across a fight where she was trying to be helpful but adds to more questions she needs answers for. It also becomes something she may get her answers. This was well written and I do can't wait to read the next book. I need to know what's next! LOL

4.5. I just wrote out a long review, but the app is a pile of crap and deleted it all. So... This book is fucking awesome. Like seriously good. It's like the writer has taken some of my favourite aspects from some great RH series' and melded them together. There's the badassness of Sawyer from The Redemption Saga (albeit a slightly younger and more innocent version) combined it with the group dynamic and sweetness of The Veil Diaries (but they're all in their 20's, so hello heat level!) and it wo 4.5. The book is a paranormal romance and comes complete with casters (magic users), paladin (police of magic users), shifters, lamia (vampires); oh, and it’s also a RH *wink wink*. So, bring on the delectableness! The author conjures us a magical story that weaves through the heart, the mind, and completely entraps you! The readers emotions are poked, plucked, prodded and are all over the map, from rolling on the floor laughing, to crying like a baby, to so angry I wanted to throw my Kindle! This book has everything which truly adds another layer and makes it more than just a book! The plot is not just your basic “oh cool, I’m a caster and meet my scrumptious men”! There are struggles both physical and emotional, Vinna and her men deal with obstacles from other members of the coven as well as a mysterious group who is out to nab Vinna. I enjoyed the development of Vinna’s character and let’s not lie, who the heck wouldn’t want to kick-butt, take names, and look hella good while doing it! I love Vinna’s spitfire, no-holds-barred attitude, but before you think you are dealing with a hardcore, rude, uncaring heroine; think again! The heroine of this tale is a highly-developed, yet easy to relate to character! She can go with-the-flow or kick-butt then flip gears to laughing it up with her chosen fellas in her life 😉. I fell in love with Vinna and look forward to seeing her in her future adventures. The men in the series … WOW, hold on to your unders because they are ALL H-O-TTTTTTTTTT! There are two separate groups of yummies to read about as well as a standalone, whom I loved but didn’t understand why until much, much later. The first set of eye candies are the group of men who end up being more of her coven and father-like figures; oh, and her uncle who is a grade-A jerk; prepare yourself to hate this one! The group is important to the development of the storyline but are not the main heroes. The main heroes well let’s just say HELLLOOOOO there 😉! Bastien and Valen, be careful you will see double, that’s right twins, and wowzers they’re fun, kind, caring and love to push their boundaries with Vinna by simply being themselves. I loved the playfulness and protectiveness these two inspire. Ryker (love the name) he is the healer of this crew! His innate ability to care for others gives way to his intensity and his smoking hot, smoldering looks that sparks Vinna to wanna do more 😉! Sabin, hmmm, so many things to say on this one, you will hate him then like him and then love him; yes, it’s an emotional journey with this one! In the end, he totally scores for his secret awesomeness! Finally, we have Knox who is the goofball of this group, but don’t worry he is smoking hot too! I love his forwardness! He does what he pleases and screw the rest! He adds the needed jokes, fun and perfectly hilarious one-liners! Ok, let’s just have an honest moment, we can all be jelly of Vinna and her harem! I can tell you all now that I will read this more than one time! Why? Easy, there is so much there that one reading is not enough, it must be read again and something new will come forth, something that was missed, and more emotions will rise to the surface! Not to mention, this book WAS THAT GOOD 😊!

I really enjoyed this book and it surprised me. When I first started I didn’t like the way the first person pov was written. Instead of something like I head down stairs to retrieve the shoes I need to leave it’s more like I’m heading down the steps to get the shoes I need to leave. I’m not sure that conveys the difference but it’s less in their body and more peripheral and I’m just not a fan. But it picks up and gets better. It also has a combo of show and tell with more tell then show sometimes I really enjoyed this book and it surprised me. When I first started I didn’t like the way the first person pov was written. I’m not sure that conveys the difference but it’s less in their body and more peripheral and I’m just not a fan. But it picks up and gets better. It also has a combo of show and tell with more tell then show sometimes which typically bothers me. And yet I still enjoyed the book enough to race through and read it. I really enjoyed it and will be reading the next one ASAP. This story is about Vinna who has powers but doesn’t really know how or why nor her parents. The whole premise is to find out who she is. At first I thought the coven we just met were to be her future mates in the series, I like to guess. Boy was I wrong when one turns out to be (view spoiler)[ her uncle (hide spoiler)] I don’t like how that group of people come to treat Vinna. I do enjoy The Boys though they are sweet. I’m also enjoying the slow burn in the romance. I’m wondering though if Enoche and/or his coven will become part of Vinna’s relationship. Lol. Overall the book is fascinating and fast paced.

2.5 stars Interesting heroine, but the story had some very typical Reverse Harem faults - mostly that the men almost are not distinguishable. And that concerned not only her harem, but the Coven of her uncle too. Too many characters were introduced and none of them was well built, which was a pity. The characters all behave more like teens, than midtwenties and the writing was rather shallow. Despite the same old, same old special snowflake trope, I enjoyed that the heroine was so overpowered. I just am a sucker for a kickass female lead. And that one is no doormat, albeit a bit naive and immature. An okay read for a RH.

Previously homeless, Vinna found a home as a professional fighter in Vegas. She knew the power she had was different, but it wasn't until a group of Paladins stumbled on her that she discovered the world of magic and family ties she had not known. She goes with them to learn more about her magic and ends up making friends with a coven of hot boys. These boys prove to be true friends when the exact nature of her magic is revealed. Vinna is already bit of a badass, but has the potential for even more badassery (yay! can't wait!). Her boys have a good mix of personalities and I'm looking forward to seeing what they can do with their magic. The ending leaves things pretty open as far as direction, so I'm interested to see which direction the author decides to go. I'll be diving into the next book shortly!

SO GOOD!! “I’m not going to lie, the thought of having sex with all of you at the same time scares the shit out of me, so is that up for discussion or is it mandatory?” A roar of laughter stalls my nervous rambling, and I watch all of them--including Sabin-- bend over and laugh hysterically. I tuck my legs up under me and wait for them to recover from what apparently is the funniest thing they’ve ever heard. “Is it mandatory?” Bastien repeats, barely able to get the word out he’s laughing so hard. The writing style is not for me. I find it hard to picture what's happening and the dialogue sounds stilted. Moving on.

Off to a good start This book kicked off with a great start. I was loving the characters take no crap attitude and the fact she could beat up pretty much anyone was awesome too. But somewhere along the line she suddenly became insecure and the book became super emotional. I wasn’t the biggest fan but I guess there has so be character development even though she’s going backwards. I felt the book was gripping enough that I finished it in one sitting and I want to pick up the next book ASAP.

This was an ok book for me. The plot line is interesting, but the pacing was odd to me. I'll finish the other books, but this isn't in my favorites category. Vinna is a 22 year old underground fighter. She was kicked out of her home at 15 and taken in by Talon. She is a badass bitch that you don’t want to mess with. She has magic that she somewhat knows how to use but also has no idea where it came from. I like how she is such a strong character (attitude-wise). She has magic that she somewhat knows how to use but also has no idea where it came from. I like how she is such a strong character (attitude-wise). Physically, I think she was powered up a little too much. I generally like over-powered characters, but this was too much for me. (view spoiler)[ So shocker! She is the long lost princess of the sentinel line. They are the royal casters with abilities far greater than regular casters. But wait! There’s more! She is even stronger than most sentinel. So she is basically super powerful and invincible. I don't know. Maybe I've just read too many series recently with the oh she's royalty plot twist. I wished there was another reason she had stronger powers. For an over-powered character, I generally like he or she to gradually become stronger and to learn, but Vinna was strong from the get-go despite having zero training. (hide spoiler)] The story basically jumps right into the action. By a stroke of luck, she somehow comes across a supernatural fight, and vinna is just like “well don’t mind if I do” and just hops right in. Keep in mind she hasn't even seen other casters before. She meets these five guys that are in their 30s and 40s. They call themselves casters or paladins. Their meeting and interactions are really odd. At first, I was like ok...we have an age-gap romance going on. Then we found out one is (view spoiler)[ her uncle (hide spoiler)] , and I was like no no no...backup. We were introduced to the boys later. And I must say...nothing says love at first sight like getting tackled face first into the dirt. They are like instant best friends. For someone who is not used to human contact that doesn’t cause pain, she adapts real quick. The interactions are beyond adorable and hilarious to watch, but it feels like a scene of friends who have known each other for years not hours. So, it felt rushed in the first few chapters. Like we just immediately started with the action, but then the middle felt more dragged out. The pacing just didn't make sense to me. The characters are ok. I don't connect with the boys that much. Their characters weren't fleshed out much except for one boy. The paladin made me so mad, especially (view spoiler)[ Lachlan. Like you prick! Like it's her fault. (hide spoiler)] There was definitely a lot of betrayal in this book. My favorite character was also killed off. He didn't get that much book time, but I liked him the most. Vinna's character didn't make sense to me sometimes. She has a horrible past, yet she is so trusting some times and other times not. This girl is way to comfortable with falling asleep in a moving vehicle when she is wedged between to two behemoths she barely knows. Like no self preservation. Some of her actions do not match her history. Overall, I'll maybe finish the series, but I wouldn't read it again.

At first, I wasn't entirely sure what to do with The Lost and the Chosen. Vinna appealed to me: she's a total bad*ss, a powerful young woman who takes care of herself without a thought to lean on someone else. It's pretty clear that she's packed with a ton of magic, but also quickly clear that she doesn't really know very much about where she's from or what's given her that power. Vinna appealed to me: she's a total bad*ss, a powerful young woman who takes care of herself without a thought to lean on someone else. It's pretty clear that she's packed with a ton of magic, but also quickly clear that she doesn't really know very much about where she's from or what's given her that power. Her gifts are a mystery, and not one she's ever had a chance or help to unravel. That is, at least until she gets almost strangled by some surprising help. When Vinna first met Lachlan and his group, I was a little thrown off. Okay, she's an adult, in her twenties. However, I was confused at the idea of her immediately meeting a group of men who are mostly described as being in their forties; this seemed like a surprising direction to go. Now, I can't predict what Asher has in mind for the future of the series, but I will definitely confirm that interest (romantic, at least) is established between Vinna and a younger group of guys who are related to/associated with the older paladin (magical warriors) that find Vinna. So, don't be turned off or discouraged by the fact that she meets these older men first! ANYWAY, past that disclaimer... The young casters that Vinna meets make an interesting group: Valen & Bastien (twin brothers), Sabin, Knox, and Ryker. Each of them comes with their own specific skill set in terms of magic, but none seem like they can compare to Vinna. There's no doubt that there's something overwhelmingly special about her, something that none of them are going to inherently know how to control. The boys are a bit of background for me, but I think there's a lot of room to develop them into fully-fleshed out individuals. We get a little taste of what music Ryker likes, Sabin's hobbies, the way the boys relate to each other and how they run the group they've established among themselves. They're not as deep as Vinna, but it's a good start. Asher uses the norms of her magical world to justify the reverse harem concept, and it's only strengthened as we discover more about what Vinna is. Although we don't get a super in-depth reveal (I feel like there's a LOT more to learn about her history and powers), we do get a firm basis to start understanding what makes our girl special before the end of the book. For awhile though, we're just as fumbling as she is, learning more about her abilities with every new mistake and triumph that she has. My big question is where book two will pick up. The Lost and the Chosen doesn't end on a cliffhanger, per say, but there's some major drama and reveals right before it's all wrapped up. Because of that, it's totally up in the air where Asher will take us next. Will Vinna go to school with the boys and try to start a "normal" caster routine? Will she pursue the leads she's gotten about her missing father? Will the Elders find out what she truly is? These questions definitely have me interested, and I'm looking forward to getting some of them answered in book two.
