I'm very happy Tomasi's writing Detective Comics now. I think he's got a great handle on Batman. Even though i haven't got to read the entire run of his Batman & Robin series, the 2/3 of it that I have read was very good. This issue was great & I'm thinking Detective Comics is gonna be one of my favorites again going forward. I'm very happy Tomasi's writing Detective Comics now. As I expected, this issue was really interesting and I like how Tomasi writes Batman's inner monologue. The plot is also interesting. I'm so glad a good writer has finally taken over this title. Tynion was the last good writer for Detective, and really the only good/solid Batman writer in the entire Rebirth line. I feel like Batman comics are the best when they focus on interesting cases and this new arc starts in that vein. When Batman begins a new investigation into a murder set up like the scene of his parents' killing, it sends him in the direction of an old friend. Its a great set up for what's to come. 3 1/2 stars. Loved Tomasi’s run on SUPERMAN, was curious to see his first issue of DETECTIVE. The art is wonderful, story is a mixed bag. The first half is very very promising and dark, the second, not so much alas... good enough to try the next issue but nothing spectacular overall...

Well, we get to see Batman doing some detective work, which seems to be rare in today's comics. But, does death of his parents needs to play pivotal role in his life anymore? And isn't Joker gas gag became overused by now? All in all, nice refresh from King's cuck and depressive issues. Doug Mahnke is one of my favorite artists and this issue does not disappoint. The story by Peter Tomasi is pretty good as well. Only six more issues to catch up before I read #1000!
Chalupa Batman –
Precursor to DC#1000, interesting premise but a little predictable especially with the way the story bounces around.

Hey, that was a legit good issue of a Batman story. How long has it been since I read one of those?

A lot to unpack here, but so far so good. The art is fantastic, the plot moves quickly, Batman is his surly and cynical self, but I’m still not sure about the very end. Time will tell!
