Her stories are always brilliant, twisted and hold me at the edge of my seat which I absolutely love. But what I love the most about her stories is the originality behind them. 'Wake to Dream' was addictive and so fantastically written, a great blend of dark, suspenseful and mystery elements that will blow your mind. “I doubt there is anything you can tell me that would cause that to happen. We all have secrets, Alice. Some of us far darker than others.” Alice has suffered from different sleep disorders from a young age. She’s afraid of sleeping, her dreams taunting her from within, restless dreams that terrorize her every night. Nightmares and hallucinations are everything Alice knows. When her sister, Delilah goes missing, Alice knows she has to do everything in her power to find her. She thinks her sister is in great danger trying to communicate with her through her dreams. She believes Delilah wants to tell her where she is and who took her. "Gray walls. Black table. Plastic, fake red roses. Everything in place." In order to find Delilah, Alice seeks help from a doctor. To save her sister, she needs to remember what happened in the past, she needs to remember where she came from, but for some reason her memories have been scattered. She dreams and dreams, starting to remember different places, but also a man who seems to be important, a mysterious man who apparently wants everything with her. “You’re a part of me now, he’d whispered, always and forever… Until death. Until death. Until death.” What an intriguing read this one turned out to be! I absolutely loved the premise which was so unique and fascinating. Alice’s story was fast-paced, intense, mind-blowing and it will make you question everything. To be honest I figured out pretty quickly that something strange it’s going on, but as much as I tried to guess what is happening, I couldn’t. I had a bunch of theories, but of course none of them were correct. I’m going to tell you only this - nothing is what it seems. The plot was complex, smart, full of revelations that will make your jaw drop. Alice’s dreams are revealed more and more with every chapter, but if you think you can figure out what’s going on, think again, because Lily will throw you off so many times. "Listen to me. Obey me,"(…)"and I will give you the life you deserve." I loved how Lily blended the psychological aspect with the suspense/mystery aspect. Simply fantastic! Alice’s journey will [email protected] with your head from the very beginning. Our heroine here was an interesting one for sure. She was intriguing, layered and very well portrayed for someone with her condition. I can’t tell you anything else about her since you will want to discover how complex she is for yourself. All in all, 'Wake to Dream' was another fantastic, entertaining read by this author that will blow your mind with its original plot and characters and with some very interesting twists you won’t see coming. “…Drip…”

It’s that simple.” The writing is stellar from the first to last page. The continuous feelings of confusion that I had right along with Alice had me on edge, trying to figure out if anything our heroine is recounting even real? ”Sleep is something I’m afraid of. It’s something that is intended to refresh, but instead leaves me screaming in my head.” Page by page a reader will get through of Alice’s recount of meeting and then living with a possible monster. She’ll find peace and acceptance and a kinship yet her subconscious is telling a very different story. ”Are you ready?” he asked, his eyes alight with some emotion Alice couldn’t name. “For what?” “Your new life. The life you’ve been dreaming of having.” Shaking her head, she stared at him, confusion evident in her expression. “Never dreams. Only nightmares.” “Until this moment,” he promised.” The author does brilliantly conclude this story with some great twists and turns. I have reread the ending five more times to make sure I have clarity on what actually did happened with these characters. ”I loved him more than anything, Doc. Destroying him destroyed me in the process.” P.S. If anyone wants to chat about this book I would love to hear your thoughts because I’m sure hoping in the end I understood the difference between her dreams and her reality. *ARC provided by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review*

Human mind is such a fickle and fascinating thing, making it my ultimate favorite subject in dark books. This book fed that hunger. "Being awake meant nothing. Real life was simply an intermission." Alice was a character full of contradictions. She was made fragile by her nightmare of her dream, but it was also what made her strong when she's awake. "I promised I wouldn't harm you, Alice. But never forget I warned you that I do have ways to make you hurt." My opinion of Max shifted constantly throughout the book. His mysterious and unreadable demeanor made me drawn to him, wanting to know what's behind the facade. The story intrigued me from the beginning. Even though I thought it started a little off focus, the slow but constant drip of answers worked in keeping me turning the pages. I had my theory early on and stayed with it. In a way I was right, but never thought it would be true in a completely different way.   "He was dark enough that he overshadowed my light, and the nightmares couldn't find their way." Wake To Dream is a story of a woman struggling to find the truth within her conscious thoughts. This book would appeal to readers who enjoy exploring the depth of human minds. ◉ ✠ ◉ . . . Abusive, dysfunctional environment can only scar so much...there's only so much one can take...and never to be able to escape it...but Alice did. Or she tried... But these nightmares of lately really mess with her existence and Alice is convinced that they hold the solution of the whereabouts of her missing sister. She believes they "speak" to her... “I wanted to understand the nightmares...to use them to save Delilah. Or do they, really? We enter an uncharted sphere of unknown – as we follow Alice through out the dream of a dream within a dream or is it? They could hold the only answer in finding...her...or something else entirely. It's often said that dreams are what you make of them. For Alice, It all started a long time ago, but it escalated into unstoppable decrease of known sanity with the appearence of...Maximillian Frost. Or did it happen like that, really? ...she finally understood the dreams were memories coming to the surfice, a dam broke in her mind, the images and events she'd fought so hard not to see finally coming into focus with a vengeance that shredded her from the inside out. There's actually no way to tell this story without screwing the storyline spoilers... the only thing one can do is to stick with the original blurb allure and just state the fact that this was masterfully written. And I bow to Lily White for pulling it through. I have read Ms White's books before and I am well aware of the edgy, twisted, gritty and disputable, dark taboo subjects she writes about, the characters you usually have no simpathy or empathy for and I am usually quite mad afterwards LOL But this is a step up, in my opinion, from the usual „storm“ of a mindfuck, as this book actually excels in it. At fist I was a bit confused with the interwoven sidelines of the dream within the dream, that made me slide off track a couple of times, trying to grasp the meaning beyond the reality that was behind the dream and vice versa. Or so I thought, but even then I couldn't stop reading, by entering the sphere of another sphere which made me a stand by stalker watching as the layers of layered cover up mess of characters' surroundings and their inner screens are being peeled off, slowly revealing the „real truth“ and than the epilogue comes and steals the spotlight making me gasp in amazment and awe struck of a phenomenally rounded out psychological thriller with twists and pent up mystery boiling the tension until one statement concludes it all with a bursting truth! Nothing is EVER as it seems...well, fuckin duh?! Maybe one of the best psychological thrillers I have read recently. ***ARC generously provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*** For more info and reviews visit

Her meeting with Dr. Chase regularly to getting back her memories is only way to find her missing sister, Delilah. Session after session finally brings Alice closer to the truth. Her truth. The doctor isn't convinced. Is Delilah real? What's her relationship with a man name Max Frost? Has she gone mad? "You are now here, Alice. There is no other choice. There is no other place where you can exist any longer." Before this day, she would have been powerless to refuse the advances of a man as beautiful as Max Frost, and even now with the darkness so obvious within him – the cruelty of his touch, the crimes he’d committed against her – she was still powerless to resist his seductive charm. Alice's memories turns into nightmare. The man she just met morph into something evil. He has her weakness which is she assumed her sister, Delilah. Max lurks in the shadow pulling her closer to his darkness. But for the first time in her life, he chased all her demons away. Confused but relieved at the same time. Max wasn't the sweet type in bed, the kind of man who told you how beautiful you were beneath him and made promises of how he'd love you forever. No. Not with the darkness that lurked inside him, the clawing need for pain that forces a woman to whimper. Ask yourself: ✓ Do you like to be fuck... I mean, mind-fuck? Read this! ✓ Do you like to be in roller-coaster ride? Read this! ✓ Do you like playing detective but ended up in asylum? Read this! ✓ Do you like unpredictable twists and turns? Read this! If it's all yes, then Welcome to Alice's madness! Oh lord, is she really insane? Sleeping disorder has many issues and Alice suffered the worst of them, missing memories. I kept guessing what's the reality here but nothing answered. This story really unpredictable. There is no past and present. Only figments of memory. Or is it a dream? Is her doctor for real? After turning pages, searching for clues and I'm so bad with playing detective. It was well-written plot and very unpredictable. In the end, happily ever after isn't Lily White's style. I never assumed the worst of all it, that's why I couldn't give perfect rating. Wake to Dream is about love and sacrifices also keeping you sane. One of a kind story and definitely recommended. (view spoiler)[I've seen this kind of plot in a Chinese movie. Not the sleeping disorder, though. If you're interested, just ask me :) (hide spoiler)] And... If you still wanna know the real answer, this is my theory... (view spoiler)[Have you heard the term of 'life flashes before your eyes' just before you die? It seems Alice experience this. Remember the clock? I'm stunned with the epilogue of her psychological assessment by the real Dr. Chase. It was her truth and I don't know if Alice died of knowing it or not. Sad, right? Alice was live a perfect life with supportive loving husband, but her sickness ended up their life. (hide spoiler)]

Upon meeting Alice, Max feels an immediate connection and offers her an opportunity she’s never had before. Knowing his limitations and needs, Max balances his life and tries to give Alice a peaceful home, but their relationship is complicated and trying to placate the past becomes harder than he thought. “There are scars we can’t wash away that mark us for life, Alice.” When Alice’s sister disappears, she seeks answers in her dreams but the reality is too painful. In trying to cope with her choices, Alice seeks the counsel of her childhood therapist to give her perspective. During these sessions, Alice divulges the pain she suffered by those that she loved. Getting to the root of the problem and deciphering where the lines are drawn becomes crucial to understanding Alice’s fears and finding her sister. “Maybe remembering where you came from will tell me more about where you are now.” Reading Alice’s journey kept me on the precipice of curiosity and fascination until the very last page. With the intangible nature of Alice’s condition, it adds to the mystery of what is real and how the lines between dreams and paranoia can bleed together. Adding to the suspense, each chapter is structured in such a way that allows the reader into Alice’s mind, and during her therapy sessions, the sense of foreboding is tense. Getting to know Alice’s character in every sense is intriguing. Max is quite a memorable character in his charming but chilling allure. Wake to Dream is a masterfully crafted psychological thriller that takes the reader into a journey of purposeful ambiguity and twisty interpretation. I highly recommend to dark readers who appreciate a proper mind trip! *An ARC was generously provided via NetGalley for an honest review. *This was a (F)BR with Twinsie Hawkey! *Read during: Shhurrender your TBR week at https://goo.gl/PUJqIk

The premise was good, and I like how nothing is as it seems, but I think everything and everyone came off a bit strong and the nonstop back and forth started getting on my nerves a bit. Instead of the build up of suspense, it just flat lined, and I ended up skipping the rest of the book just to find out the end which gave me mixed feelings. I don't like how it ended, but it also wasn't farfetched. What I do like was the doctors note explaining everything, but it still felt a little too late for me. So overall, the two stars goes to the unique and mindf*ck of a story, and the storytelling. Would recommend to someone who has more patience and is fine with not so happy endings.

Really enjoyed this total mindf*ck. All the way through I was battling with myself trying to figure out what the hell was going on. It sunk in but not fully. Finally in the end the good Doctor explains all, but still left me bloomin confused. This is the sort of book to go on my read again pile.

She meets Max and her brain shot wires into confusing Dreams with reality. It's like she's in a box thrown down the stairs. She somersaults and her up is bottom many times till she's completely lost. Alice is an interesting character. Plagued by a multitude of sleep disorders, her mind is an absolute mess, unable to distinguish between nightmare and reality. "Hers was a smile that could only be achieved by the insane." Driven by a need to save her sister, Alice recounts her dreams to Dr. Chance, believing they somehow hold the key to saving her. We're taken, piece by piece, through Alice's life with Max... My opinion of Max changed three times while reading this book, mostly because Alice's memories are so screwed up. We see him one way, then another, and then yet again another. It was definitely an interesting premise, but I did find myself skimming at times. At about the 65% percent mark, the story starts to repeat itself only with slightly different reactions from Max. While I understood the necessity of it as Alice's mind clears, it still got on my nerves to read the exact same scenes for a good 15% of the book. Overall, I enjoyed the book--the twists, the turns, the novel idea.

You need to experience this yourself, feel with your very soul what Lydia endured. It’s dark,it’s painful, but só worth it!

Over time, she has become as used to, as possible, to the fear and terror they brought along with them. When her sister, Delilah, disappears, her dreams take on a new sinister quality. She starts to believe they may hold the secret to what happened to her sister. Now she finds herself needing to delve deep into her nightmares, where before she tried to forget them. As the line between reality and dreams blur, her own well being becomes as precarious as her sisters'. Wake to Dream kept me captivated from page one. This is one of those stories that won't only mess with your mind, but will have you questioning everything you believed you knew and took for granted. There are a lot of twists and turns and the suspense is ramped way up. We are as confused and in the dark as Alice is for most of the story, which is why I tried to keep the plot as vague as possible. Trust me, you want to experience everything as it unfolds! I will note that this is not really a love story, so if you go into this book expecting that, you will be disappointed. However, if you pick this up because you love to question as you read, you love the dark and you want to experience psychological terror along with the characters you're reading about, you will not be disappointed!

This could have been really good if it was not so drawn out. At pg.120 I became so fed up with the constant back and forth between Alice's dreams and her counseling sessions I skipped about 200 pages and skimmed through the rest of the book. The suspense was too much in the beginning with little payoff. I do see the appeal of this story, it just didn't connect with me. This could have been really good if it was not so drawn out. My apologies for the vague review but as I said to my book buddy this is a story that you just gotta jump into blind. So looking forward to reading more from this brilliant author.

This psychological book had a slow, confusing start so it didn’t grab my full attention in the first 20% of the book. But the mystery did keep me engaged after that. The author slowly revealed bits and pieces of information about Alice’s nightmares and her mental state, linking these dreams to her memories about Max character, and the disappearance of Alice’s sister. It is an interesting dark read for sure. Note: (view spoiler)[ Sex scenes? Yes. Graphic violence? Yes. I absolutely loved Lily White's MASTER'S series so I requested and received a free ARC of this e-book in exchange for my honest opinion. Right away I knew this book was not going to be anything like the Masters books; this book is extremely detailed and in my opinion, the first 50% was at times quite confusing. Right away I knew this book was not going to be anything like the Masters books; this book is extremely detailed and in my opinion, the first 50% was at times quite confusing. Actually, I initially read to chapter 6 when I decided to start from the beginning to see if I could get a better grasp on what was happening in the story. Basically, I couldn't decipher whether the female main character was awake, asleep, dreaming or delusional!! In addition to that, during the first half of the book I often felt frustrated by what I considered to be excessive wordiness. One simple scene would go on for pages and pages due to the in-depth detail given to describing things such as Max's, "obsidian" hair or the heat emanating from his cold, icy blue eyes. Repeatedly, I found myself wishing things would just happen versus having to read ad nauseam about the setting, sounds, clothing etc.. I hate to admit it but while reading the first half of this book, I actually considered quitting a few times. Thankfully I resisted and continued reading.... I now know that not finishing this book would have been a huge mistake. By the time I was 70% into this book, things had become much more clear. Also around this time, things started to get a lot more interesting and by 80%, I couldn't put the book down! I quickly learned why there had been a need for such cryptic, vague material early on as everything comes full circle leading to an ending that is nothing short of amazing! Although the first half of the book wasn't as fast paced or exciting as I would've liked, WAKE TO DREAM is absolutely brilliant! This book is totally idiosyncratic and incomparable! WAKE TO DREAM confirms that Lily White is still the reigning Queen of Mind-Fu(kery!

WTF just happened? Lily White, is absolutely hands down one of the best at writting psychological thrillers. I mean, holy freakin shit. I'm literally speechless. I have so much to say but I cant seem to find the right words to do this book justice. Definitely deserves 10 stars. First off, I must say, I love the way this book is written. It is the first time, I have ever had an author write in this particular style of back and forth and it was brilliant. I was captivated from the very beginning. WTF just happened? Yep, Lily White just wrote one of the best books I have read all year, leaving me JAW DROPPED! I will leave you with this food for thought. First, don't wait, buy this book, read it, and don't let anyone interrupt you. Second, be prepared, you may think you know, but you don't. Third, enjoy this roller coaster of a ride. I shit you not, you will LOVE IT!

Alice was in therapy for her disturbing dreams. Aside from those she was too lost in her own head to know what was going on in her life. It was obvious that the dreams were sprinkled with truth, and her amnesia and mental issues were preventing her from seeing the truth. It wasn't easy to figure out exactly what was going on. Although the book was dark and had several elements that would be triggers for people, it didn't have the same impact as these elements have in other novels. Bad things don't seem as drastic when the MC is delusional, and half or more of what is going on isn't really happening although it does take a while to know what is really happening and what isn't. The book was good, but I was waiting for a mind blowing moment that never came. There was a big twist half way through and another at the end. They weren't predictable but weren't particularly shocking either. I received this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Oh, how I've missed delving into the curious mind of Lily White. I have been such a fan of her storytelling since reading Her Master's Courtesan. She has the knack of painting a picture of one subject and me, as the reader, seeing something else entirely. I never know how or what I feel at the end of the tunnel and there isn't always light on the other side. What was I expecting from Wake To Dream? Honestly, I don't know. I didn't even read the blurb. Being the first from Lily White in months, this was an immediate and automatic buy for me. I couldn't wait to see what she's dreamed up during her time away and this book did not disappoint. In a way, it felt like a dark Alice in Wonderland and it was only fitting that the character's name was Alice. By the end of the story, you'll question the same as Alice did...was it real or a Dream?? I won't tell you. That would take all the fun out of this read, but I spent a lot of my time trying to decipher the answers to that question from the very beginning. This book truly gripped me and held me captive until those final words..."The End"

I feel that nothing is as it seems and I will be in for a few shocks along way! It's gripping and thrilling, I'm excited to see where this story takes me. I'm going down the rabbit hole and will complete my review soon... Drip...drip...drip...I knew it meant something more but I just couldn't figure it out before the big reveal. This is a thriller that walks in the dark shadows of the human psyche and embraces the madness that lurks within. It is not a love story and I wouldn't want anyone under the misconception that there is a romance other than the reader slowly falling under the spell of the author and being lulled into an alternative realm where you don't know which way is up. Alice has suffered from different sleep disorders from a young age. Now an adult she finds herself once again seeking help to unwrap the terrors in her dreams from the horror of her reality. Who is Max and why does he treat her with such ambivalence...and her desperate need to save her sister, her only motivation to slowly peel back the layers to reveal a truth that she is not prepared for. Hell I wasn't ready for the stark reality either as my jaw literally dropped open in shock! The story has an off beat feel, you know something isn't quite right it's like the truth is just at the edge of your vision, your brain can't quite grasp the whole picture so although the pieces slowly come together the overall picture is so totally unexpected that you can't understand what you are seeing. Reality, perceived and the truth depends on the individuals perspective and well Alice is one complicated young woman. The concept was intriguing, different and totally captured my dark loving heart. The ultimate price was paid by the person you least expect it with a twist in the tale. Love truly hurts...until death! I can't explain without spoilers so my advice is take a chance, open the door...you never know what's on the other side. A darkly delicious Five star mind engaging read. ~*~ Obsessed by Books copy given in exchange for an honest review ~*~

If Lily White is good for one thing, it is coming up with books that are darn near impossible to write reviews for without giving away the plot. Wake to Dream is her latest creation that yes, fits that very mold. However, I will do my best to give a honest review without revealing the secrets I have discovered. I'm not going to lie and say I loved this book. In fact I spent the first 60% hating it. Not the plot, no the plot was completely diabolical. Alice is quite the character. I'm not going to lie and say I loved this book. In fact I spent the first 60% hating it. Not the plot, no the plot was completely diabolical. Alice is quite the character. Her story lures you in, grabs you by the throat and drags you into the labyrinth of her world. The world she has with the 'mysterious and dangerous man'. GAH! Then there is the 'doctor who is determined to help'. Honestly, his constant insistence drove me bonkers. Same room, ask question, harp harp, harp. Now that I have finished the book of course all of it makes sense, but at the time I'm wondering what the whole point of it was. And while I am on the subject of bonkers, hello triggers! There are so many disturbing things going on that if you get upset over violence of any kind, don't even bother. So why did I struggle so hard for most of the book? The constant pendulum of the story telling. One minute Alice is with the doctor and I'm absorbing (or trying to) what is going on there, then BOOM it switches to Alice with the dangerous man and that bit of WTH. It was a constant switching of gears. Doctor, dangerous man, doctor, dangerous man, repeat, repeat. Drove. Me. Nuts. I came real close to giving up several times but I had my faithful Lily-ite buddy kicking me to push through and finish. Which of course I did. (Thanks Steph), so keep that in mind if you struggle with it as well. Just keep reading. The ending is just in one word: Unpredictable. Let me just warn you now, if you attempt to take note to predict the ending, just forget it. There's no point because this psychological thriller is going to mess with your mind. I think readers who dive into this latest masterpiece by Ms. White are going to love this book. It's definitely one that will linger in your mind. I received this book from the author for The JeepDiva blog for the express purposes of an honest review. The opinions and rating of this review are solely mine. Stars - 4, Flames - 5
