His wife made a second tape with her and revealed a secret that Eddie knows nothing about. Eddie's investigation leads to someone attempting to kille Miranda. Eddie, being the man he is, becomes her bodyguard and those sparks start flying like mad. What Eddie finds is that the danger is not only pointed to Miranda, other bodies start falling. All Eddie wants is the truth ... even if it costs him everything he holds dear. This is a riveting romantic suspense. The story line is precise, with more suspense than romance. The sexual tension between Eddie and Miranda is a bit graphic, but well done. Miranda suffers from severe PTSD which adds another layer of interest to this story. And Miranda's friends are priceless. This was a new author to me and now I look forward to reading Book 2 in this series. Each of the books are stand alones with no spoilers. He had been gone for several years serving his country, not able to come home very often and they had grown apart. He knew little about her friends or her job. She had made a goodbye DVD for him, so he decided to start with the videographer. Miranda Hill isn’t about to give up any secrets from her clients, even if they are dead. When Eddie Mackey shows up, she slams the door in his face once she makes the connection. Miranda has PTSD from an event in her past and is struggling to make it through each day. She isn’t about to let Eddie upset her carefully constructed world. Eddie is persistent. When his probing stirs things up, and Miranda is attacked, he kicks into protective mode. As they continue to spend time together, these two circle each other, start to hit it, get interrupted, back away, circle each other, you get the idea. Eddie has issues from facts he discovered after his wife’s death that occurred during his marriage. Understandably so. He has used those issues to build a wall around himself. He is very hesitant to start anything with Miranda. Miranda’s PTSD doesn’t give her much breathing room. She needs her routine. Eddie challenges her. I loved Max, Aggie and Cora. This is more of a romantic light suspense than mystery and thriller. I had it figured out very early on. No gripping the edge of your seat suspense. This is my first book by this author but the second in the series. I easily read it as a standalone. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC provided by NetGalley and the publisher.

Once Eddie starts asking questions of his wife's friends, Miranda, and people in the Mayor's office people start coming out trying to kill him and Miranda as well as a few others. It was exciting and I was always wondering who was behind everything. Miranda had some PTSD from being caught in a subway disaster. Eddie felt guilty about not being around for his wife. He was finding out secrets his wife had kept from him. Miranda and Eddie were attracted to each other, so there was some romance in the book too. It had some of everything I love in a book. Eddie Mackey is determined to find out the truth behind his wife’s death which puts him in photo journalist Miranda’s path sending the two on a crazy journey for justice. Eddie and Miranda are everything heroes and heroines should be…honorable, courageous, and flawed. JB Schroeder brings them, and the story, to life against a gritty and realistic NYC backdrop. I found myself fully invested in this story that ends with a twist I didn’t see coming!

Someone doesn't want the two of them asking those kinds of questions and they find themselves under attack. Can the pair work together to solve the mystery and protect one another as the stakes turn deadly? Loved the suspense and plot twists! And the romance? Beautiful! Two people battling their own demons and learning to trust one another and more amid the backdrop of their investigation makes for a great read! Loved it!

She was one of the first responders during 9/11 and after he signed up to serve in the arm forces, she made a career change and ended up being the assistant to the mayor's wife of NYC. Eddie also found out after her death that she was going through cancer treatment and never once told him! All these things made Eddie question what had happen to his wife and why all the deceit. He couldn't accept that the cause of death was suicide plus dealing with the facts that he wasn't there for his wife when she needed him. Eddie retired from the military, moved to the Poconos, and started a martial arts studio with his friend. One year later, Eddie still can't accept that his wife committed suicide and decided to find out what was going on in his wife's life before her death. The only thing he really had to go on was the questionable way she died and the DVD she left him which recorded her last thoughts to him about their lives and her feelings. The DVD was filmed by photojournalist Miranda Hill. Miranda Hill was a survivor of a subway disaster but now has PTSD and can't go near a subway. She also will not disclose any information that she has on her clients, whether they are alive or deceased and that is what she informed Eddie when he comes looking for her to try and find out more about his wife's last days. Eddie's investigation into his wife's death uncovers deadly secrets about her employer, which Miranda also works for. The secrets put both Eddie and Miranda's lives at risk and Eddie promises to protect Miranda.. Besides trying to find out more about all the secrets and determine if Eddie's wife was actually murder, the more time Eddie and Miranda spends together, the harder it is to resist their attraction to each other that they had felt when they first met! Miranda and Eddie are hiding from a killer while trying to figure out who the killer is and if there are more individuals involved and more victims. This romantic suspense keeps you guessing what is going on and who did what all the while making you anticipate when Miranda and Eddie with give in to their feelings for each other. And will they trust each other enough to fight for each other even though they both have personal issues to work through? This is my first book by JB Schroeder and I intend to go back and read the first book in this series even though Uncovered is a standalone with characters making cameos from the first book.

Over a year later, he learns her cancer (which she hadn't told him about) had gone into remission. So why would she commit suicide? He comes to NYC to ask questions. Miranda videotaped Katherine's goodbye, the film Eddie has seen. She also videotaped her confession of an affair, which Miranda never shared because Katherine died days afterward. They're immediately attracted to each other, and Eddie knows she's keeping secrets. Eddie talks to the coroner, who alludes to knowing more, and who tells him to go to his family's restaurant and ask for a specific dish. Katherine worked for the mayor's wife, Annette, and Eddie talks to her, too. He talks with Miranda again, and she gets her own questions. She asks Annette about the mayor's previous assistant (a position currently held by her brother David), and that night her brother goes missing, and she is mugged and knifed. Eddie stops it from being a neck breaking. He appoints himself her bodyguard. They continue investigating. They get shot at, she receives some flowers that may be bugged, and her best friend's grandmother's home is broken into. They confront Annette, she arranges to meet them at a subway station, and she is killed there. Eddie is blamed, but Miranda pulls in a favor from a friend in MTU and then in the news stations to get video that exonerated Eddie released and made public. They eventually figure out who the villain is, get him to confess, and reveal other cases that may be involved. And then we get our HEA. Eddie and Miranda are very well developed, in a good blend of dialog, action, and narration. The plot is thick and the pacing intense. Max and the Wise Ones are a fabulous group of secondary characters!

But things don’t add up and he decides he needs to figure out why. And that is where we meet Miranda, who has a successful business recording people’s last words to their loved ones. Eddie thinks she knows something. Miranda thinks she knows something. Things aren’t as they appear. Cue suspenseful music… What is it about a nurturing man that cooks? Oh, he is an alpha, no worries there! That man is gonna get me every time. I don’t care that Eddie is on the hunt for his dead wife’s killer, at one point in the story, he is barefoot and cooking in her kitchen. I don’t care that he thinks that maybe Miranda knew something, did something. I’m her and he is taking care of me. So yes, if you’re into romantic suspense/mystery, Eddie is someone you’re going to want to meet. Let’s talk suspense…this book is marketed as mystery/thriller. I found the thriller part to be a bit of a stretch. Romantic suspense, maybe… I guess those genres could straddle the line of each other? There was one scene that comes to mind that was super suspenseful and at that moment I could not put this book down, but the rest of the story is what I call, romantic suspense light. If you’re someone that likes to predict what’s happening in books, as am I, I also think that you will have this one nailed. It was pretty predictable. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t an entertaining or engaging story. I still really enjoyed it and I like knowing that I was right. Isn’t that part of the fun of a mystery? Plus, it makes me feel smart.

When he makes an appointment to see Miranda who filmed his wife's parting words, he opens a can of worms that no one could have suspected. As the story escalates, further investigations evoke surprise attacks on Miranda in particular and Eddie finds himself in the role of her protector, feeling responsible for her. Fortunately Miranda has some really good friends in Max and the Wise Ones, who not only dished out sound advice, but did so in a fun and quirky way. Finally when Miranda's brother goes missing, she gets the picture and realises that the attacks against her not accidental. Although a romance does develop between Eddie and Miranda, they have a hard time taking it anywhere as there are constant interruptions. I loved the main characters in this book and found Miranda to be a vulnerable person doing her best to survive her circumstances, and Eddie, while not great with words, is a man of honour and commitment. I thoroughly recommend this book that gives credence to the saying "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely". However, justice prevails but not without terrible loss. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily post this review. This is my honest review.

Short review. First time reading J.B. Schroeder book but certainly not my last. I enjoyed it had the right balance of mystery, suspense and romance. When Eddie Mackey tires to undercover the truth surrounding his wife's death it leads him to questioning if he really knew his wife at all, she had so many secrets and lies she kept from him. I liked Eddie, he was not only loyal but determine to bring the truth to light no matter how much the things he discovered about his late wife's life hurt him. Short review. First time reading J.B. Miranda irritated me through the first half of the book I get her reasons for being reluctant to share what a client of hers told her but unfortunately the more she held the key piece of information that Eddie need to help him find the truth the more I didn't like her. It wasn't until the middle of the book and her finally telling him everything from his late wife's visit to her that I started to like her.

Absolutely Awesome! In my opinion this is her best book yet. Beyond fast paced, characters that literally leap off the pages and romance that SIZZLES. I liked book 1...book 2 literally crackles with heat and the story kept me turning the pages. I had to put it away due to health issues with family. When I could, I devoured the rest. Eddie Mackey...retired military cannot accept his wife's suicide due to cancer while deployed. Finally emerging from his fog of grief he begins to push buttons. That i Absolutely Awesome! Eddie Mackey...retired military cannot accept his wife's suicide due to cancer while deployed. Finally emerging from his fog of grief he begins to push buttons. That is when he stumbles upon Miranda Hill and her work taking videos to leave behind for loved ones. Eddie has seen one but not the second video his wife left. Deceit, lies and crazy plot twists emerge to send Eddie and Miranda on a crazy journey. I loved this book, absolutely LOVED. This book is romantic suspense at its best. MUST READ!

I truly enjoyed UNCOVERED! It had just the right amount of both romance and suspense, with likeable, relatable characters that were easy to root for. From what I understand, it's book 2 in the Unlikely Series, and I haven't read Unhinged yet, but that didn't take away from my enjoyment of this story. Ms. Schroeder successfully brought the down and dirty side of NYC to life, not to mention the evil side of politics. Excellent, suspenseful read from beginning to end. Loved the challenge of the mystery surrounding the dead wife, the unfolding of the clues about who was cheating on who, and the development of the romance. Both Eddie and Miranda have fears to deal with that are very much tied to experiences in New York City. Good sense of place, in Central Park, Chinatown, and Queens. Love some of the character details (like rollerskating) that add dimension to the story. The author does a skilled job of buildin Excellent, suspenseful read from beginning to end. Looking forward to reading more in this series and others.

4.25 Stars for this book with a non-typical plot. The characters are strong and interesting. The author provides a solid background story on the main couple plus one. He ends up with more questions than answers and his life is put in jeopardy. Reluctantly assisting him is Miranda, a woman he hopes can shed some light on his wife’s last days. What a great sequel to J.B. Schroeder's Unlikely Series! I couldn't put it down. It was suspenseful, mysterious, and spicy! She left me wanting more.... This may be my favorite out of all the books she has written but time will tell after I read the next one! Keep up the good work J.B. and thank you for the advanced copy. I received an Advance Reader's Copy; this is my honest review." For your convenience, here are the links: Goodreads, Amazon, B&N, Kobo, and iBooks. What a great sequel to J.B. I read the first book in this series and JB Schroeder brings that same dark, gritty feel to UNCOVERED, an atmospheric romantic suspense where terrible things can (and do) happen to the protagonists. Eddie and Miranda are great together, especially as they try to uncover each other's secrets while falling for each other. All in all, UNCOVERED is sexy romantic suspense at its best with a GREAT twist at the end that I never saw coming.
