It took me a very, very long time just to make it through this glorified excuse for a comic book, which is really nothing more than a frickin' catalog! Okay... it was free. OF COURSE it was free! Because it's nothing more than a big, dumb, gratuitous, overly long promotion of DC's various books. Of course! But, hey! Promotion! Everybody needs a little promotion every now and then, right? Sure. Why not? But personally, I'd just about rather be forced to read a copy of Webster's Dictionary from cov It took me a very, very long time just to make it through this glorified excuse for a comic book, which is really nothing more than a frickin' catalog! Everybody needs a little promotion every now and then, right? Sure. Why not? But personally, I'd just about rather be forced to read a copy of Webster's Dictionary from cover to cover than EVER AGAIN crack open this self-ingratiating, seemingly endless "guide," that is basically just page after page after page... AFTER PAGE... of crummy commercial blurbs that really don't tell you all that much, but are of course designed to talk up the various DC Universe titles and all their constantly rebooted and needlessly retconned superhero characters. Which is great, if you are into DC's lineup and all that, of course. But, come on! How many times do we REALLY need to see some new writer's take on the origin of Superman or Batman? How many times do we REALLY need to see Bruce Wayne's parents get slaughtered in that alley? In film AND in the pages of numerous comics, no less! Okay. That all happened. It's pivotal. It's seminal. It's what made Batman who he is. It's what ultimately drives the character. Okay. Check! Got it. LET'S MOVE ON THEN, SHALL WE? Okay, I love Superman. Who doesn't like Superman? Batman, sure. Wonder Woman, YES, YES, YES! Aqua-man, Green Lantern, they're all great, timeless comic book characters. After all, classic DC superheroes are the stuff of contemporary pop cultural myth and legend - and I for one sincerely hope they remain that way for many, many generations to come. But this generation.... This generation worries me. A LOT. Because I recently read Wonder Woman: Earth One Vol. 1 (which is of course one of the books that is highly touted in this crummy catalog), and although the art in that book is absolutely scrumptious (flawless, even, with some of the BEST depictions of female beauty to EVER grace a comic book), but that whole man-hating, CLEARLY MISANDRISTIC, anarchist, SJW RAPE of the classic original Wonder Woman mythos was enough to drive me as far away from what DC is currently doing with what's left of their classic Universe as humanly possible. Forever. So... sorry, DC. This book did NOT have the desired effect. I am now EVEN LESS LIKELY to read DC's most recent titles than I was before. And much is the pity.

Great essential guide as always. I liked the little story at the beginning with Aquaman, before the guide started. I think this may be my favourite they've released. Very diverse and well put together. I'm always curious about their selections, but this is perfect if you need graphic novel ideas from DC Comics. Also perfect for new DC readers! A good catalog guide for starter comic-book reader. I'm not really well-versed with DC comics but I think the old and original story, albeit it has it's flaws, is still the best rather than these new ones. Thank you for the free e-copy provided by DC Entertainment via NetGalley. A good catalog guide for starter comic-book reader. Nice guide for those who may be interested in starting some comics. I do wish they included Nightwing in the back, along with Red Hood, as they are quite popular.
