“Your Plan B exists only when you don’t believe strongly enough in Plan A. When you’re all-in on Plan A, you do whatever it takes to make Plan A work, including using the resources you would have applied to Plan B.…The very act, mentally or physically, of making a Plan B, C, or D is a message to your subconscious mind that you’re not 100 percent sure Plan A will work. And it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.“ In WORK YOUR GAME, Dre Baldwin shares his four-point approach to success, which includ “Your Plan B exists only when you don’t believe strongly enough in Plan A. And it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.“ In WORK YOUR GAME, Dre Baldwin shares his four-point approach to success, which includes discipline, confidence, mental toughness, and personal initiative. Baldwin set his sights on playing pro basketball after being cut from his division three basketball team as a college senior and graduating with a business degree. Through hard work, he achieved his goal. His system can be applied to any pursuit. The book is divided into twelve chapters which expand on his four-point approach: cardio for the mind; the third day and beyond; super you; illuminate self-consciousness and performance anxiety, forever; what are you afraid of?; mental toughness; go-getter; selling yourself; your interpersonal game; mentorship; bad mental errors the good people make, and don’t live by the book. He includes “examine your game“ boxes throughout the book which include questions and ideas to help the reader work on their game. In his introduction, Baldwin mentions an eighth grader who gave him the following advice after beating him in a game of one on one, “stop playing scared and buy a game/get some skills.” This advice, which translates to “Skills + Mental Game = Success” forms the basis of the system. The concepts and advice provided are solid. Baldwin does a great job of explaining his philosophy in accessible terms. For example, he references the vending machine of success. You have to pay/put in the work before receiving rewards. If candy gets stuck, you might have to shake things up. Trying the cheat the machine doesn’t result in real success. If you don’t stick with it, your stuck candy will go to the next customer. The price of the reward may change. Make sure to press the buttons for the reward you want. He also uses the phrase “applied faith” to believing in and acting on a personal vision, even when results aren’t yet evident. He elevates the popular advice “fake it until you make it” to the more robust “Be-Do-Have”model and explains how to conquer performance anxiety and handle criticism. In his chapter on mental errors, he summaries many of his concepts and provides new perspectives. I plan on reviewing that chapter whenever I need a refresher. WORK YOUR GAME is a great resource for success in any endeavor. Baldwin does an excellent job of making his philosophy clear, accessible, and inspiring, Thanks to Amazon and McGraw-Hill Education for providing a copy for review purposes.

Dre Baldwin is my favorite author, because his books are straight to the point; no nonsense, and contain the right information that I can apply to my life to become a better and more succesful young man. I have not read this book yet, but I'm sure it will be a great read, just like his bulletproof bundle for all the aforementioned reasons. I recommend this to every person, male or female, who wants to improve their situation and has the drive to work to be succesful. This book by Dre Baldwin pushes you to apply following four principals in your life and transform yourself into a professional - 1.) Discipline 2.) confidence 3.) Mental Toughness 4.) Personal Initiative The most important think which I liked in this book is the steps suggested by the author to get rid of your hyper self consciousness and fear of success. As per him, success is straightforward: Understand what you want, make a decision to get it, work hard, and believe in yourself.
