This book was A-dorable (I have been over prononuncing my As all day thanks to this book)! It was seriously a cute story. I liked the characters and the story line. The only problem I had was it drug out in some parts more than I cared for and Connor need a good hit. I was hoping someone would have hit him to get him in gear.Over all, I liked this one.

It's more of a love it or hate it book. Unfortunately for me, this is one of those books I want can't keep myself from, but so want to get rid of as well. I am not sure whether or not I enjoyed it as much as I should. I think you could blame my sudden infatuations for cowboys, horses, ranches, and month long trips with the brother of your betrothed and end up falling in love with him instead. I think you could blame my sudden infatuations for cowboys, horses, ranches, and month long trips with the brother of your betrothed and end up falling in love with him instead. Or just that I've grown up and outgrown YA books. I personally liked Abby. Because she was outspoken and consistent. When she loves you, she loves you, when she hates you, well, tough luck! I admire her controlled demeanor when it came to Alexis. And I admire her intense love for Wyatt (view spoiler)[I miss my gay friends because of him (hide spoiler)] . Although I sometimes find her mental battles a little cheesy at times. I admire her strength and her pathologic honesty and bluntness. I love how frank she is when facing her feelings and the people around her. She is one hell of a heroine. Connor, on the other hand, is one fickle baby. I honestly felt like I wanted to hit his head with a frying pan sometimes - the old school one, the really thick one. I felt for him and what had happened to him that caused him to make the decisions he made. It didn't bode well with me though, that those shitty things that happened to him would make him think it justifies cheating on the other girl (view spoiler)[ though she is a bitch and I would like to bitch slap her every time she made an appearance in the book. except for that one time when she confessed what had happened to her (hide spoiler)] . His indecision was agonizing and really? Hugging and kissing all the time? You would have been a moron (excuse my english) not to realize what was going on. Could you be that dense? The fact that the author mentioned that he looked like Adrian Grenier kind of extinguished some of the giddiness I felt initially for the guy. It's kind of my pet peeve when they do that. Kind of ruins the imaginative aspect of the book. All the supporting characters made this book as multidimensional as Abby's family. This made up 85% of the 3.5 stars I gave this book. If it had kept me more engaged than I was, it would have garnered four stars from me. The fact that Aaron was black was what I loved most. We don't often find novels that welcomed this kind of diversity. It kind of reminded me of The Blind Side. I appreciated Abby's parents as much as I appreciated Abby herself. They were indeed an A-dorable family. Their acceptance of Wyatt also added to the beauty of their very unique family. I think I read on more because of how I adored their family. Of how I adored Wyatt the most. "Mom, did you know that Aaron is black?!" My mom played right along with me. "Yes dear, we did, but we were afraid to tell you. Are you okay with it?" I couldn't contain the beaming smile I had within myself when I read this. I appreciated how diversity came as a norm in that home. That the color of one's skin or one's gender preference was of little or no issue when it came to being family. I am neither black nor gay, but i respect them as much as I respect every other social group. Milk, Coffee and Caramel are all lovely, but mix them together and you get the heavenly taste of a Caramel Macchiato. Lastly, I couldn't imagine how a single group of people had had their lives screwed up in about a span of one year, almost all in the same time. Not that it is not possible, I just find it quite borderline unbelievable. The subplots of this book are too many to mention, which is also one of the reasons why you can abandon this book even if you wanted to. The vivid depiction of what happened to Wyatt, though, would have been the most painful of all, but also the most beautiful. Even how July, July! was strategically placed in the book, I find it very artistic. With all that said, I find this book intriguing and lovely. The romance wasn't that touchy for my taste (but then again it is a YA book). What endeared to me more were the themes that surrounded our lovebirds - friendship, family, and acceptance.

Another wonderful story by Monica Alexander! She is an amazing author. As a reader you easily fall into the relationships of her characters, and that is the kind of reading that I crave and can go for months without finding. Great story and I adored the characters.....fantastic job. Please keep writing! :)

This book was simply amazing. Monica knows how to pull on the good ol' heartstrings. ,3 Loved this book to bits and pieces! There were times when I had wanted to hit Connor (boy needs to get his head straight) as well as Abby (the devotion of this girl amazed me) on the head, but from the beginning, ever since Connor's first ex was mentioned, I already had a feeling that he thought Abby would have been the one capable of holding (and breaking) his fragile heart, so I guess I forgive him for that. But - just - gosh. I do not know what else to say. I Love this book. LOVE LOVE LOVE IT. It was amazing, and brilliant because these situations could happen in real life (not 100% spot on, but you get the point). I don't know what else to say. I had put myself in Abby's shoes as I had read through the whole book. My, this was a complete roller coaster ride. Simply amazing. I am know stuck with all these emotions (that have gone completely haywire), and it's all because of this book. Now I have to find a light, fluffy book to balance out all these FEELS. 5/5.

I re-read this book last night for probably the 7th time. I've been in such a reading rut lately; I'll start a book and not finish it. I don't know if it's the quality of books I'm picking or if there just haven't been any great books to come out lately. . . Aftershocks is like my comfort food book. I mean, I guess I already knew that, since I've read it several times, but I just felt connected to the story last night. Who knows? Maybe all of this is strange, and I'm a weirdo. I just can't say enough about the storytelling.

I loved Connor and Abby's chemistry, they were drawn to each other from the start. Yes there were times I wanted to slap Connor and tell him, HELLO, what the hell are doing?? But luckily he came to senses and listened to what his heart truly wanted. Connor's little brother Jordan was so freaking funny and I loved when he had his "date" with Abby to the movies. Wyatt was wonderful and he was a great friend for Abby. That Alexis chick, I wanted to bitch slap her to next Tuesday. The description sounded pretty good, so I took a chance on this book and I am really glad I did. Enjoyed the witty banter, relationships with the characters were fun and the delightful story kept me entertained throughout the book. With great main characters and a quirky supporting cast that will keep you laughing, and a few unfortunate incidents that show you just how real life is. I love Connor! Such a great guy! Except there were some instances where I wanted to hake him and slap him around so he could open his eyes and see how horrible Alexis was. That girl was vindictive and I am glad I never ha a run in with a girl like her when I was in high school. Great story and if you ate wondering if you should read this, then take a chance and get lost in this book :)

I really did not know what to expect with this book, but I really, really liked it. I thought the character and plot development were top notch. Even though I wanted to sometimes hit Connor over the head for being stupid he was a very likable hero and Abby was adorable and sweet. I loved the ending, and I will be reading more from Ms. Alexander!

I was a little hesitant reading Aftershocks(came up as a suggested read), I didn't really know much about the author, but wanted a fast summer read. This definitely fulfilled this need. I couldn't put it down, a lot of ups and downs and twists and turns, but is a great read. I have a new favorite. Can't wait to read more by Monica Alexander. (This directed at Alexis, of course) WHAT I LIKED The plot was good, of course. I liked how (don't take this the wrong way) Connor had an alcoholic mom, and his Dad was always gone. I liked Abby's wit & humor, her snarky-ness. Connor was a good character, but had some faults. I thought the author (Monica Alexander) did awesome with Alexis & her friends, and Abby's friends: Luke, how angst-y he was over a girl and his whole personality, actually. Nicky, I loved this chick's bad girl rep. and her whole ghetto thing she had going on. Jack, I loved how everyone thought he liked Abby, but he actually liked the other girl, but "dated" Abby for Abby. I loved the fact that he was a player & his whole rep. he had. Wyatt, I have a special place in my heart for Wyatt. I think Monica did a fantastic job on him, I loved his gayness & his gay jokes, I loved (again, don't think badly of me) how his parents kicked him out & didn't ever want to see him, without it, this story- there would be no real story. I loved Alexis's friends, Faith, with her pretty much pining over Alexis's friendship. Faith's boyfriend (I think his name is Russ) how he suddenly recognizes the bitch in his girlfriend- I was cheering. I also liked Kellan, I think his name was, especially when he was drunk. Jordan also had a special place in my heart, and it went out to him. WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE I didn't like how both Connor & Wyatt had 'abusive' parents, ok, it's not that I didn't like it, but it was awfully coincidental, there are other problems that could have happened-with Connor, you can't mess up Wyatt's story. You may not agree, but Connor's parents were a little abusive, his dad was nice & awesome when he was home, but he wasn't home. That was the problem. His mom was definitely abusive, no arguments there. Wyatt, his parents were definitely abusive. After they found out he was gay, and probably before seeing how there obviously wasn't much love going on. Monica portrayed Abby to hid behind her jokes, and it bled through a few times, but most times she was too serious for it to be true. I think the author didn't really pick a personality & stick with it for Abby. Connor, I had some issues with. He almost ran her over/crashed into her with damn car of his twice, one day after another. Way too coincidental. I also thought Abby was giving to hard into this 'friendship' they had in the beginning. Luke, I loved (as I mentioned earlier) how angst-y he was with Sophia, but I had a serious issue with it after a while, how he & Nicky are close friends for a while now, and has been pining after Sophia for a long time, and suddenly he was in love with Nicky & they had been dating for a few weeks. I also thought that Nicky was the type of friend who tells you anything & everything & gets mad when you don't. And, again, the author didn't stick with this & hid their relationship. I thought this was unnecessary and out of the blue. I still loved Jack, but had trouble with the fact that he got back together with his girl after so long & all the stuff he did after they broke up. If Wyatt, Abby & Connor had something to do with it, then I'd have been ok with it. Wyatt was a HUGE character in this story, but there was barely any of him in it. At all. He was mentioned in passing & yearning & memories, but he wasn't really in the story as much as I'd have liked him to be. Monica told us that Jordan, Connor's little brother, was 13. Ok, 13 year olds do not act like she says the do. It's the year before middle school, for some it IS middle school. She made him sounds weak & I am offended for all the 13 year old out there, for them. With the life the kids had, and his age, he's not...like that. I recommend for people who like sweet, high school romances, and I liked but I am only giving it 3 stars, my apologies.

Alright, so for me personally, I disliked this book a lot just because it made me feel bad, so bad that I had to lay down in bed to go to sleep. I will not finish it. This might be because I have been on the "Alexis/girlfriend" side of the story and know first-hand how it can ruin you as a person. I find this story is not bringing good ideas into the heads of girls. I have not finished it, so I do not know how it ends. I find this story is not bringing good ideas into the heads of girls. I have not finished it, so I do not know how it ends. But from what I have read so far it makes it seem that it is okay to lust after someone elses boyfriend (not that there is something wrong with that cause you can not help your feelings, but at least have the courtesy of NOT becoming friends cause that is just asking for trouble)and it is not a good quality to have as a person. It is rather selfish. The revenge feelings of Abby behind it are rather pointless as well, just because revenge backfires. This is a book you will either love or dislike. Hate is too strong of a word. It does keep pulling you back to it to see how the story will end. I feel the urge to keep reading even though it makes me feel bad, but I will fight temptation. Books should bring joy and take you on a journey, not make you feel like crap. It is just a typical high-school, chaotic, dramatic, romantic love story. So if you are in the mood for that, go for it. But for girls who have had their hearts broken by a guy who cheats on you with a friend, this book is a no-no. Even though Abby hates Alexis, and the reason why, I can completely understand, does not mean you should go around trying to make her jealous. Make peace with yourself about the situation and stay as far away from her as possible, not mingle into it. You can notice very well how insecure Alexis is about herself, I mean she got a boobjob for Christs sake and calls Abby just to tell her she had sex with Conner. She loves to have status and will do anything to get attention. Abby should know better. If she should punch someone in the face, it should be Conner. Conner is a douche for having a girlfriend that is madly in love with him, though he does not really seem too interested in her or a good match for that matter. Dump the sh#t out of this chick and move the heck on. Sort of feels like he is a user. Playing two fields at the same time, this is not fair for either Abby nor Alexis. He is sending mixed signals out there, cause it totally seems like Conner is into Abby more than Alexis. So to be honest, this dude is not even worth your time even though he is playing the sad one by having an Alcoholic mother, divorced parents, and a girlfriend that died. This guy screams "Issues". And we all know dating a guy with issues is not a good idea. I do have to give Abby credit for completely being herself and being a stand-up girl when she found out her best-friend was gay and also growing up with an black adoptive brother she treats as her own family. Alexis is indeed a bit of a twat, but personally I think that is just because of her insecurity like I said before. Other than that, I do not know what happened besides unnecessary drama and shenanigans. This will sadly not be a re-read for me.
