Pleasantly surprised by this one. The story keeps you constantly intrigued, the characters are enjoyable, it’s well written, and overall, for a book about a high school jock - I liked it more than I was expecting.

I really enjoyed this book, I literally couldn't put it down. A lot of stories like this have a female as the lead so it was really refreshing to read it from a males perspective. I thought the pace was good, you got to know the characters well and it made me laugh out loud a couple of times. I feel this book was the introduction to the world and characters, giving you a hint of whats to come and I can't wait to read the 2nd book as i think this will be super fast-paced. All in all a great read :) I really enjoyed this book, I literally couldn't put it down. >Book Review – Lost Souls >I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 1st in the Mending Magic series and ends in a cliffhanger. Jamie is the rich, gorgeous QB in a prestigious private high school. The story is told from his point of view, so the mean girls are not the main characters. It was refreshing to, instead, see the high school angst through the eyes of the teenage boys. Yes, they are horny, but they are also confused a lot. Gabby is Jamie’s neighbor. She had a weird episode at a party early in her high school career and turned in to a pariah. Jamie likes her, but succumbs to peer pressure and doesn’t pay attention to her. >In this reality, people exist with paranormal powers. Jamie’s father is the leader of the group that captures these people with enhanced DNA. No one knows what happens to them after they are captured. After Jamie’s good friend gets taken right off the football field, he starts to question everything. Weird things happen to Jamie, but only Gabby puts together that he has enhanced DNA. >This book is appropriate for a young adult audience. I am giving this book 3 stars. Jamie is supposed to feel something for Gabby, yet he runs away, never giving her a 2nd thought. There are a bunch of secondary characters that could be good or bad. The story was good until Jamie and Gabby pair up. There needs to be more romantic tension, even for a young adult book.

This is a new to me author, and I just say I believe I am hooked! In this book, we meet Jamie a not so typical high school jock that is having a small identity crisis. He gets to know his neighbor Gabby a little more due to a school project. With her support and influence, he starts to realize some things about himself. These things are overwhelming and will absolutely cause some issues with his father!! I’m not about spoilers, but I will tell you some sparks will fly! Get your copy and read it tod This is a new to me author, and I just say I believe I am hooked! In this book, we meet Jamie a not so typical high school jock that is having a small identity crisis. I love the mind of this author. I loved the Kerrigan Chronicles and I think this new series will be just as great. It’s fast paced and well thought out. The characters are incredibly well developed. All around, this book will suck in you and won’t let you go!

A little too predictable Keeping in mind this is a teen book, I felt like this is what a female images a teenage boy is like. Either way this was just a tad too predictable to me with too many tropes.

Not a bad start A little long winded but gives a lot of background for the next book. A witch hunt without witches but with gifted people instead. I might just get the next book just to see where it goes as this was interesting.

Great first book in a new series. Having read the Chronicles of Kerrigan I was expecting a great story. It did not disappoint. Check out Jamie and see what happens if your special!

I liked this book. But I like a lot of WJ Mays books. This one had good character development and nice intrigue. Teens and superpowers and a world against their special talents.

This has quite an intriguing storyline. The characters are good, I found them a bit of work to get to know though. There’s definitely potential for the next book. I’m looking forward to it.

Normally a book like this would have been written from a teenage girl’s point of view, so it was really refreshing to read from a teenage boy's POV. I love way Jamie and his friends come across as playful, and the complex relationship between Jamie and his father. At first I thought his father just put work above his son, but it was so much more than that, that I began to feel sorry for Jamie. Not only is his father his only parent but he is also abusive. Having devoured previous series by this author, I was interested in a new series launching, so volunteered to review via arc. I found it a little slower to get into than previous books and worried that not being a teenager was going to hamper my enjoyment of this new story/set of characters, as the opening chapter (for me) felt a little 'young' in the dialogue and plot - though that is the intended audience being YA fiction! I needn't have worried, because a couple of chapters later I was hooked on the new characters and then proceeded to read the entire book within a couple of days. For a younger reader, this is probably an easier read to begin with WJ May than her Kerrigan related books, but there's plenty here for old hands who've read her other books first (note, the story lines/worlds are totally unconnected). And now I impatiently await the next instalment...
