Molly and the Night Monster is a book about a girl who hears a noise coming towards her door and how she imagines what it could be. It uses all different shades of blue in the art work. I think partially to keep the reader calm and to show that it is night. I feel that this could be a really good bedtime story and it that it can help children overcome their fear of monsters and noises. At the end of the book she finds a way to capture the monster and soon realizes it's not what she thought it wa Molly and the Night Monster is a book about a girl who hears a noise coming towards her door and how she imagines what it could be. The illustrations are mainly blue which could show coldness, sadness or illustrate night time. One side of the page is the stairs and one side is Molly in her room. Molly hears a noise during the night and wonders what it is. The perspective of the illustrations show that Molly may be vulnerable. The ellipsis adds suspense and children could consider what comes next. Molly is asleep with her toys which are animals and she thinks about what could be coming up the stairs. Molly heeft een heerlijke levendige fantasie (met veel dieren in, scoren bij mijn dierenfans) en wij mogen ervan mee genieten.

Cute story about being afraid of the dark and discovering what is actually in the dark.

A young girl thinks that monsters are coming to get here but the true is more pleasant. The story was very simple but the artwork / plot captivated me – a good ‘example’ of how often in life the things we fear aren’t as bad as we think.

This is so sweet. The artwork is beautiful and the expressions are strong. The thing I like the most about this book though is the composition. It keeps the same angle throughout the entire book and shows what's going on, presumably, outside her door on the left side and insider her room on the right side. While I can understand some people maybe not being impressed or challenged by the story, I personally thought it was simple but sweet. This is so sweet. This is my review of ‘Molly and the night monster’. This is a lovely story to read to the children in early years as they can all relate to waking up in the middle of the night. This book is about a little girl called Molly who wakes up in the middle of the night and her imagination about monsters run wild when she hears a noise. The book ends with her finding her mum and giving her a bed time cuddle

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. Molly has an active imagination, and imagines the noises that she hears in the night are all sorts of scary things. However, predictably this turns out not to be the case. This book will be reassuring to some, but it might have the opposite effect on sensitive children, and therefore best read with a caring adult rather than as a group read-aloud.

Given the title, I don't feel the twist here plays fair; when it's revealed that the noise on the landing is 'a mummy', it should surely have been some mouldering and malign pharoah rather than Molly's mum.
